That's how I did it as a kid, however I don't think there was a vaccine and my parents didn't want me to get them as an adult.
it used to be a common practice before the vaccine because your kid was going to catch it eventually anyway, so might as well get it over with. Now it's just about the dumbest thing in the world to do, but then again look at who we're talking about.
It's not Darwinism when kids who cannot get vaccines for a legit medical reason die because of these idiots. A law needs to be passed to 100% require vaccinations to participate in any public activity with your kids. Don't vaccinate, fine. But you don't get to participate in society.

Also the kid died of SIDS, which links to vaccines have been consistently debunked, but grieving uneducated parents blaming vaccines for things vaccines don’t do is as old as vaccines themselves.

Smallpox would be a terror attack and since we stopped vaccinating in the US in the 1970s, that’s not something any of us would want Progress being made on it, but it’s tough. Bacterial vaccines are always tricky when there isn’t an obvious toxin to go after.

Also they already publish vaccination rates for schools, but I think passing legislation that publicizes parent names who claim religious exemption to shame them and put public pressure on them to vaccinate. I counsel these parents in clinic. They are absolutely not a homogeneous group. There are absolutely the “loud and proud” group, but then there’s a big chunk that are quietly hoping they are doing what’s best because it’s what they believe personally, they can usually be talked into a modified immunization schedule. Then there’s a group who have just been given wrong information by Facebook and after learning more will change and fully vaccinate
