Just found this thread. Glad I skipped to the last page after reading the OP. Awesome news Sterling A !!!
Great news. Honestly, I was praying for a miracle when I first saw this. They still happen. Glad this one touched you and yours, and hope there's some left over for the rest of us! Keep us updated!
Awesome news man, also there is nothing that could replicate the type of bond and affinity you will now have with your future wife going through something this fucked up and getting through it successfully.
Best thread. Congrats on the turnaround so far. I am looking forward to celebrating a full recovery with you via TMB!
It’s a diagnosis when they essentially move the girl to hospice treatment because there is no hope instead of continuing to try and treat her. But let’s not bog this happy thread down
Pay per view. Please include the song from Say Yes to the Dress, so my brain can process it’s a TV wedding. I hear that, “oooooooooooooooooooo forever nooooooowwwww,” in my sleep from how many episodes I’ve heard my wife watching of that show.
Her mom Laura and I got to actually speak to her yesterday, I wish we videoed that moment, I was crying a lot ill admit it was astonishing. She understands now a little what has happened as her mom's post says down below. She can not speak yet, but she nods and can listen to conversations. Laura hugged her for like 20 mins straight, it was a tremendous moment. We made these bands #FightDarian at the encouragement of the hospital staff (word has spread to the entire hospital and they all pulling for her, every single staff member is wearing one right now, incredible.) The bottom pic I took of just some of the nurses that are wearing them. yes for anyone who wants to know specifically what has happened (before/during/after) ill break it all down when I have a little bit of time. Truly is an amazing experience featuring all facets that you can probably go through.....
I meant to put that in the positivity thread I don't want to hijack this thread, but thank y'all for the thoughts and prayers.
I'll spoiler updates Spoiler Got an update : she went to sleep easily and they are about to start the surgery.
Even as somebody in the medical world this story is unbelievable. I've never met any of you but I'm ecstatic she's turned it around. This is an absolute miracle. Continuing to pray for you all
Not going to lie, I saw this thread had grown by a few pages and didn't want to read because I thought it would be bad news. Fantastic news, really glad for you all.
That was a very nice gesture on the doctors behalf. I certainly don't envy the position that he is in to have to tell people bad news, much less when he has to walk it back but hey, we're all human.
I'm not religious at all so feel like saying I'm praying for you is just incredibly disingenuous. Just know that every part of me is wishing you and her the best, Sterling A and BlazingRebel as well
Drop that link for the bands Sterling A (when time permits), I'm sure a whole bunch of us would pick up one of those for Darian.
yes thanks for reminding me. Issue is one of the nurse's here at the hospital (27 yr old dude who talks sports with me a lot when I need to get out of the room for a bit) and me made the bands here at the hospital so we've been selling them hand to hand, they have a machine on the 2nd floor to make them. So Im working to get them online and a link provided when I get a bit of time which shouldn't be a problem at all. I showed Darian the pic of all the hospital staff wearing her band and she gave me a big smile.
Don't worry too much about the liver numbers. It literally happens all the time in the first few months after a transplant.
Right. Her mom is a nurse locally back in fort myers so she knows her stuff, very smart lady. Thank you CF, good to hear from other sources in the know as well
Before anyone panics, "rejection" is just a term that is used to say the numbers are out of whack and needs a more substantive look to get into normal range. It does not mean she is literally rejecting the liver and will lose it. I hate that they haven't changed that terminology yet. Causes so much unnecessary panic
Just read the whole thread. Incredible story, may things keep looking up for you and your family Sterling
Dude this is the best thing I’ve heard in so long. I can’t even begin to imagine the emotional ups and downs you and the family have gone through during this experience. Hopefully things just keep getting better and better and soon things will be back to normal. So happy for you and her man!
yesterday was another hard day. Her new liver isn't failing, but rejection is here. What does that mean? Not 100% sure I've heard from like 20 people what it means and I heard 15 different answers. This is a huge process, especially when other organs have failed her in the last 30 days as well, not just the new liver. She still can not speak to me/or anyone, the speaking valve has not come yet. Its hard to not be able to hear your fiancée's voice for 25 days straight under normal circumstances, but its extremely tough when she is hurting/irritable/doesn't know what's happening/crying and the only thing she can do to communicate is blink for yes and no questions. Dr.'s don't want her to even pick up a pencil and write out answers. I'm not saying its all bad, just venting. It's a process, that's what im trying to say. Things aren't going to be "normal" for Darian and me back in fort myers for a long time and I'm coming to grips with that. She is a very positive person and even though things haven't been good for her this entire year so far, she see's the light and knows things CAN and WILL get better. This weekend is a "waiting period" and Monday will bring the test results on multiple things. That will be big day
