As a Texans fan I wouldn't mind if he drafted Hackenberg. Not in the first round but later. But as you say, I wouldn't bet my career on him.

I hope Hackenberg goes grad transfer route and finds somewhere he can have a chance to succeed. not sure he will, but would like to see him in a different system. declaring for the NFL or staying at PSU after this season if it continues to go this way would just be a bad idea for all parties involved.

This would definitely be in his best interest. I'm sure Harbaugh would gladly take him. I wouldn't mind MSU bringing him in for competition

I think Hack would need a full spring and summer of good coaching to really reset his situation, and that's not happening with a graduate transfer.

Does Herb Hand get much criticism for how shitty the OL is? It seems like everyone raves about how good he tweets but I never hear about how good he actually coaches.

In general, position coaches receive way too much recognition/blame for a good/shitty unit, imo. I put more with the designers of the offense or defense. They are the ones that know the deficiencies and can gameplan around them (or are supposed to). How much can Hand do with a shitty unit?

Anyways, I assume he'll have heat if this keeps up another year. He does have some dogshit to work with, though.

That is fair. Maybe me and Arakidin had a different idea of "pocket." I am thinking tackle to tackle.

I was a little harsh on PM. Although, imo, he is not near as good at dodging around now (or the last couple years with the Broncos) as he was with the Colts. Age hurts.

This is all fine and dandy, but it seems like you are arguing two different things at points in this thread. If you just think he will get drafted high due to his physical talents and potential, that is one thing. But you have also said you still think he is a good football player.

So once and for all, do you think he is a good QB or just think he will get drafted high based on his tools?

I think Hack has spurts where he is a very good player and shows "what could be," but then something goes wrong and he loses it. Wildly inconsistent.

Jameis threw like 20 INTs last year, and he was the #1 pick. On at least 20 plays, he was not great. I am not comparing the two, just saying a QB can play OK and still go 1st or top half of the 1st rd.

I am certainly not comparing the two....what I am saying is a good college player will struggle at times.

Some QBs put up gaudy stats in CFB but then are not that good in the NFL. Hack has, physically, what it takes to be a good QB and someone will take him fairly high.

Hack definitely has the measurables, the problem is the physical and mental beating he's taking right now. 44 sacks last year, 10 on week 1 this year. His O-line is hot garbage, the run game is non-existent, and Franklin's offense takes away most of the stuff he's good at. If he actually gets time to throw it doesn't matter because his WRs run shitty routes, he makes a poor decision, and/or he tends to hold on to the ball too long. Plus I have concerns about how he's handling all this adversity. At times he looks disconnected other times clearly frustrated...I have no idea what he'll be like by the end of this season. I'm in the camp that Hack definitely has 1st round talent but that shit needs to translate onto the field and aside from a game here and a series there, it hasn't. Some of Hack's struggles are beyond his control but a lot of this is on him. It's ok to admit when you are wrong. I was wrong in thinking that after a couple of promising starts in '12 Devin Gardner would be a great college QB. I freely admit I was wrong with that. Gun to my head right now I think Hack is gonna be drafted somewhere in the mid second round, he may turn it around he may not but maintaining he's 1st round draft pick at this point in time is a fool's errand.

That is a pretty fair assessment. I think what you are absolutely right on is where he goes from here. He has the right to be irked. But he needs to shake it all off and move forward. I think this past weekend was a HUGE wake up call for PSU and Franklin. I think he is in the middle of a cluster fuck of BOB leaving and Franklin not having a good OC and fitting the square peg into a round hole.

I still think someone will see the arm talent and height and good fb knowledge (although it doesn't show) and take him in the 1st thinking if they just get him in THEIR system and behind their OL, he will be fine. I could be wrong . I certainly have been before.
