false. grew up in western neb and sheared a lot of goats and sheep in my time. if you dont shear them, their coats become all covered and embedded with dirt and shit and its a real irritant to them. heres a sheared sheep.
Or any number of other no kill shelters, animal rescues, etc. PETA is last on the list of charities I'd give money to.
I normally pick rescues in my area or for breeds that hold a special place in my heart. All are better than PETA.

Cattle/pig factories (not small farmers), veal, etc. are so incredibly fucked up. The horrific factory type animal treatment is what they should focus on. Those practices are truly awful. Instead they focus on stupid bullshit as if a dog can understand English.

Very thankful for PETA and the work they do, even if some of it isn’t my thing. As an org, they provide a net positive to society. Can’t say that about most others.
