History is always on the knife's blade about to teeter one way or the other. During the Punic Wars, Hannibal was just a few days march from Rome, and had pretty much decimated the entire Roman army when he decided to call off his offensive. Rome was literally arming women and children to defend the city walls because they knew Hannibal would be approaching in a few short days. The Punic Wars were fought before the Roman Empire is what we know it as today, so you can imagine what history might have been like had Hannibal pursued his offensive! Imagine what the 20th century would have been like had this guy been late, or chickened out!
Historic, My father attended that and told me it was one of greatest moments of his life. /They actually thought he was an athlete in the games when he was in the Olympic village, so he made out with 5 pairs of custom free shoe, Those Puma's or whatever with the hideous design that everyone thought was the future of shoes . Haha
Dispatches might be my favorite book too. You should definitely check out The Cat from Hue by Jack Laurence if you haven't already. It goes into a bit more detail about Dana and Sean and is just a great book about the Vietnam conflict.

Robert McGee, survivor of an Indian massacre. "Robert was the sole survivor of the slaughter, and he remembered the details of the ordeal. Robert had been dragged by some of the Indians to Chief Little Turtle. The chief first knocked him down with a lance, and then shot him with a revolver. The chief then shot him through with two arrows, to pin him to the ground, and then scalped him. As each of the Indians passed him, they beat and stabbed him, and then he was left for dead."
this thread is why I am a history major and going to be a history teacher so much bad ass shit out there.
