Definitely not something I would pick up of my own accord but that’s why I like this book club. I would read it if we chose it

I'm good with whatever. I'm about to be on a 2 week vacation so plenty of time to get some quality reading in. I just put the entire Jack Reacher collection on my Kindle, y'all have any favorites there?

I’d have to take a look at GR but I started from the first book and worked my way through. Even the bad ones are good books.

Now that we're at the end of football season - shall we restart book club in February?

SIAP - do we have a group on goodreads for TMB? If not, if there’s enough interest I’ll create one and invite those interested.

I enjoy following some of y’all on Goodreads, but I get more out of the threads on this sub forum than I would on the Goodreads group page. The only thing that was neat when it was active was seeing the books of the month.

Hot Zone seems like a timely suggestion

Or what about American Dirt? It’s getting a lot buzz, endorsements and criticism

If the Goodreads synopsis of American Dirt is written anything like the actual book I don’t think I’ll like it. Just a poorly written blurb.

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable.

Even though she knows they’ll never sell, Lydia stocks some of her all-time favorite books in her store. And then one day a man enters the shop to browse and comes up to the register with a few books he would like to buy―two of them her favorites. Javier is erudite. He is charming. And, unbeknownst to Lydia, he is the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Forced to flee, Lydia and eight-year-old Luca soon find themselves miles and worlds away from their comfortable middle-class existence. Instantly transformed into migrants, Lydia and Luca ride la bestia―trains that make their way north toward the United States, which is the only place Javier’s reach doesn’t extend. As they join the countless people trying to reach el norte, Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to?”

Does anybody have any hardcover Stephen king books they don’t want anymore? I am willing to pay a fair price and pay for shipping. Send me a PM and let me know. I’m trying to own his collection.

I do not but my friend has the same disease you do. He uses ebay and frequents second hand or used book stores.

It’s a bad disease. I have a used library book store and I picked up 7 for $1 and the lady said they never have Stephen king and I got lucky. Probably started the disease there plus I love his books.

Yeah he literally has a loop he makes that takes like 5 hours and hits multiple places. He even has access to used books through an organization that “isn’t allowed to have hard cover books”, so he trades them in.

I got my 7 SK books from my local library used book store over the past 3 Saturday’s. It’s a trailer behind a old library but in a nice area. The quality and selection they have in their is remarkable, probably rich people who donate books but not many people go in to look because the books are in a trailer.
So I joined a book club at work the first book was Salem’s Lot. Since I need the book, I called the trailer this afternoon and I asked the lady if they had any SK hardcovers in now. This was the lady who helped me pull some SK books not stocked twice before so it was tongue in check ish when I asked. Lady goes only Buick on the 8 (or whatever it’s called) and I go darn nothing else and she goes no (with some angst in her voice) some guy came in the last two weeks and bought them all.
I laughed and said thanks and hung up.

The disease is real. I just spent $60 on first edition the shining on eBay. It’s my favorite book but still a lot of money for a book. I’m picking up a lot on Saturday. I’ll take a pic of my shelf Sunday.

I have a recommendation for March if anyone is interested:

The Field of Blood: Violence in Congress and the Road to Civil War by Joanne Freeman

I just started it so I’m biased, but she’s also a renowned Hamilton historian and a Yale professor.

I haven’t been reading for a few years but have started again. I have burned through my current books that I have for my Kindle and need more. I used to use Bib as a primary source but my account apparently has been deleted. Does anyone have an invite they can throw my way?
