I forgot to use my sarcasm font
I forget the politics of some my bad
all good.. I was like "omg what did I do?!?" lol
There is no chance in hell the employment stats are accurate.
They're dramatically worse.
Rude....... but seriously no one believes the stats that I talk to and our employment has been dramatically restricted.
Because it’s based on people actively looking for jobs.
My industry segment apparently lost those months ago so this checks out.
If he's recalled then a Republican will almost assuredly win. Unless Newson gets more than 49% of the vote, he is recalled and whomever has the highest vote total will become governor. Theoretically, Newsome could win 48% of the vote and lose to a Republican that only gets 15ish percent of the vote. It's a terrible, terrible system and needs to be overhauled ASAP. The vote threshold to get a recall on the ballot is about the same as Michigan, a state with about a 1/3rd the population
Is there any chance they get Feinstein out of that seat ASAP?
As a Californian I would not be surprised to see Gavin recalled. This thread seems to be underestimating it.
can someone explain why Wikipedia tells me every CA governor since 1960 has faced a recall attempt of some sort? why can't you guys sit on your hands for any length of time before fuckery abounds?
I want to not blame the whites but . . .
It's because despite it's reputation as a super liberal state, a significant number of republicans live here. There are probably more republicans living in California than in any other state, it's just not enough to win state wide elections because there's also more liberals living here than any other state. But they have enough numbers to trigger a recall and know that due to the shitty recall process, it will always gives them a shot at taking the governor's seat.
Yup. It’s another shameless power grab by the GOP. They can’t win during normal election cycles but will bend every other rule for the sake of holding a sliver of power - even if ever so fleeting.
They neglect to tell you that they have no plans on actually governing, much like today’s GOP and their sole reason for being is identity politics and moral outrage.
My wife and I voted against the recall the first day ballots came to our mailbox. At least every registered voter received a mail in ballot for this sham of an election. That should help but again, most the population has no idea why there is a recall in the first place while the rabid GOP is going all out to slide a puppet in.
Hope it doesn’t work. I’m telling everyone who will listen to do their part. We shall see.
you could have saved some time and just wrote “the whites”
yeah I think there currently outfits trying to recall the DA, Mayor Breed, and several school board members here in SF. It is a process that is pretty much going on at all times at either the city or state level.
California’s system of almost direct democracy in many areas has always been batshit crazy to me
Considering “Latino” constitutes a larger percentage of the population than “the whites” in your great state recently, it might be time to start spreading the blame around a little more.
Don’t shoot the messenger, I am just trying to help you get a head start on refining your stance as many US states are seeing “the whites” are no longer the majority.
Oh whitey blaming the brown man. Color me shocked.
I was just pointing out census data. Not blaming anyone for anything.
I know and obviously I was just joking but fwiw population =/= eligible voters. So right now imma blame whitey
As a recent transplant to CA, the idea that Newsom might be recalled has me very concerned. Someone tell me that even if Newsom is recalled and replaced by a GQPer, the Cali state legislator can throw up enough road blocks to the new governor’s agenda until the next election to render them harmless…please
No, not just right now. You will blame whitey into perpetuity. It is your thing. That is why I popped up that stat so you could practice tilting on it.
Yes they can. Dems have a super majority currently. New election is next year. Their stooge won’t be able to get a lot done, but knowing Republicans the stuff they do get done will be ghoulish and unnecessary.
Reason 1000000 this recall is dumb. It’s costing the state $276M to manage this effort. Party of fiscal responsibility my ass.
Cali House and Senate are heavily blue, a GOP governor has zero chance of enacting any Trumpian-style legislature, they'd simply be reduced to using XOs to do dumb shit for the next 14ish months until a new Dem is elected governor and removes said XOs.
I mean, I’m still voting no (haven’t yet voted because I only recently got my CA driver’s license- if not for elections I’d probably have waited till my out of state license was nearing expiring because fuck spending a day at the DMV) but that is reassuring to hear.
Is there a consensus on a liberal option for question 2? Contrary to the governor’s advice, I will def not be leaving that blank.
One thing you can count on is a shit ton of dead and sick people like in Texas and Florida except worse due to Cali's size. Every candidate that isn't Newsome is going to go full Abbott and Desantis
I love blame whitey like they love Mayo
That shit is spicy. I can’t help myself.
There isn’t since Dems opted not to run a backup option thy they’d openly endorse. Pick one of the dems backup options though, don’t leave it blank. The GOP field is an absolute clown car of insanity, perhaps save for Faulconer.
like my takes ergo me using that example
I dunno, maybe that happens in certain parts of the state but where we are (Bay area) our zip code and all of the surrounding ones were above 90% vaxed eligible recipients. Not saying it won’t happen, but I think the prevailing attitude regarding the vaccines in each state is what it’s is at this point. I don’t know that a change in governor is going to strengthen anyone’s resolve to not get a jab
I’ve been in California two years and vote even though I don’t have a California ID.
Want to ask how but worried this is a trap…
Yeah at least wait for them to get caught doing something illegal or just really cringy like New York.
I'm really glad everyone cares this much about California's governor and is so knowledgeable about California's voter registration records.
I was able to register to vote online. Think I provided my address and they sent me something in the email to sign for verification. Guess it may have deactivated my Florida voting status? Idk.
I just know you can go ahead and register to vote without an ID. I still haven’t gotten a California license because getting an appt at the DMV was impossible then covid hit and they weren’t accepting new ones.
I did not know that was possible ::hat tip on the info::
FL to CA during/before the pandemic…any lotto numbers you’d care to throw out there, you know, just for fun
I can’t remember ever being asked for my ID when I’ve voted
Me either, but I needed to establish CA residency and getting a state driver’s license is the easiest way to do that…well, until DuffandMuff informed me that I could have just done it online.
But yea, not trying to insinuate you need a state ID to vote in CA. Other states, maybe? ::shoulder shrug::
I misunderstood your post and me misunderstanding you had me clarify a point you weren’t making lol
All good, I could have been clearer in my op. All that matters now is fuck this recall lol
Need Dem ballot returns to remain well ahead of the curve. Mine is among those. Just got my text today it was received and counted. I love how we’re finally using technology for traceability (as they did during the Presidential election).
those youth voter numbers
