The fuck happened in here
I have no fucking idea
Lana or GTFO!!!!
In the past week the board has blasphemed Truett Cathy, Dave Chappelle, and now Lana Del Rey. I need this entire board to take about 20% off.
Vampire Weekend tho
Saw her live and she was fucking awful.
Loved Born to Die, sort of lost track of her after that. I dig her sound though.
Not a fan of her voice in the slightest. In fact most bitches cant sing for shit these days. All auto tuned.
My first thought too
as the official arbiter on matters such as this I have come with a ruling
lana del ray's new album is decent
lana del ray is not the voice of the millennial generation
So she has a new album the same time these attention grabbing statements are coming out
she’s been saying dumb shit for a long time
lana was a persona created by the major labels designed to attract the flower crown wearing, coachella attending white ~*~indie~*~ millennial generation. she was formerly an artist that went by her actual name and she fucking bombed. Everything about her is manufactured and that’s why she’s not The Voice
She’s basically a female Post Malone, and I enjoy listening to both of them. It’s not my “lifeblood” but I can get on board if Spotify puts it in my rotation. Neither are the voice of their generation or even their genre, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be enjoyed. Unless you’re (not you, specifically, joe) in the habit of telling people their opinions are wrong, I’m not sure if there’s a reason to flat out bash their fans.
A lotta acts going back before Motown are groomed and pruned into an image before they lay their first track. I’d say it’s the standard for a significant portion of acts that get Grammy level attention. As a point of interest, anything Lyor Cohen, Simon Cowell, Rick Ruben, and any number of industry taste makers touch—the artists inevitably rise and make music more vapid but catchy on a Muzak-department-store-background-noise-level. It’ll make more money and it’ll roll on the credits of some sappy NBC drama, but it won’t be earth shattering.
lana would get less heat for her music if she stopped putting out 17 track albums with 17 songs that all song exactly the same
Thanks, I hate it
the most popular (arguably) baroque pop band is Local Natives
Very much pleased with the level of discourse this thread achieved.
hipsterjoe i think her being a subversive corporate creation is exactly why she’s the voice of a generation.
can confirm...Kendall listens to her a lot
I won’t take any negative talk about Local Natives
Also Millennials who were in college when Great Gatsby came out (2012-13) went head over heals for everything that was in that film, including Lana Del Rey.
possibly. You could argue she’s the antithesis of that, based on how youngest millennials and gen-z are against corporate culture
That was a p good movie.
I enjoy a handful of her songs. Back when I was single, I found that girls loved to say they were into Lana to sound cool even if they didn't know more than a couple songs. That's about all I have to add.
I call her Lana Del Gay
Actually she's pretty good and the "National Anthem" video is #lifegoals
But to that point, it’s keeping with the tradition of craft breweries secretly bought out by Anheuser Busch or Bonobos bought by wal mart (the list goes on). “The Man” always wins in the end.
you mean like sub pop records - the best indie label in the world*
*warner bros owns 49% of the label
I think it's a really solid album... but I'm an old jaded gen xer so that's probably a bad sign if we're being 100% honest here.
Love most of her catalogue aside from the first record she did before she really became Lana. It’s pretty awesome driving music. She veers into cliched territory a good bit with the whole Hollywood Babylon aesthetic at times, but she has talent and charisma.
Fantano's album review
Fantano gave DAMN a 7/10
Miley Cyrus is the voice, deal with it.
Who is Fantano?
We really should just admit the music of this generation is fucking terrible
He’s a YouTube music reviewer who’s earned some credibility along the way. I think his show is called “the needle drop”
Idk, his review of Kendrick’s last album I thought was about as bad as it gets and made him seem like he doesn’t have a clue so I haven’t paid much attention since
Adele is skinny now
