I left my last job (15 years) to get away from toxic management with the carrot of more money in the future. I eventually got that carrot 4 years later, but the primary reason for leaving was terrible bosses.
My company is seemingly decent compared to a lot of you guys, but first day on the job my boss was showing me around the office and highlighted the “focus rooms” which had a recliner by calling out that their use was frowned upon. Always love to see bullshit gestures like that and ping pong tables.
“Here’s this thing we’ve provided for you own mental health because we’re a caring company.” “Don’t use it.”
My old law firm just had a company wide meeting cracking down on WFH and when people arrive to the office. They already have some pretty severe staffing issues. This will only make it much worse.
Our US office is being flown to Copenhagen(HQ) in October so the whole company can be together for a week and collaborate.
At my previous job we all got a random Friday in May off. This was a small place, a dozen people or so, so it was hard not to attuned to each others whereabouts. This day off was announced out of the blue, I believe the week of. Usually our holidays were scheduled well in advance and distributed in the calendar at the beginning of the year. Turns out it was because our 2-person executive team was going to the Kentucky Derby, so I guess they must've felt guilty.
Here's the BBC story https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20220517-the-death-of-mandatory-fun-in-the-office MY office likes to do a monthly birthday potluck lunch. I am the only one in my office with an August birthday, so I have refused to volunteer the info of when my birthday is to avoid it. Plus I hate everyone telling me happy birthday. Since my birthday is on a Friday this year, and we only work half days on Fridays, I just decided to take the day off in case somehow they figure out when my birthday is.
Try having your year round employee birthday parties ran by HR. They put it on the company calendar and don’t give ya a choice.
At our hospital when it’s your birthday month you get invited to a birthday breakfast with the CEO of the hospital. You’re supposed to ask the CEO any work related questions. They post the questions and responses on our intranet home page
"Yes CEO, when is this breakfast going to end? Do I get paid for my time at this breakfast?" would be my questions lol.
