as long as the bucs say its not that big a deal, then thats it. He will be the #1 pick a week from today
Mike Mayock says Jameis Winston could have ‘very easily’ thrown 40 interceptions last year Mike Mayock, the NFL Network draft analyst, is one of the few who ranks Marcus Mariota ahead of Jameis Winston, questioning the former FSU quarterback’s decision making on and off the field. Florida State QB Jameis Winston threw 18 interceptions last year. Analyst Mike Mayock believes he could have easily thrown 22 more. (Getty Images) But Mayock took his criticism of Winston to another level today when he suggested Winston could have “very easily” thrown 40 interceptions. That’s 40 this year. Which is 22 more than he threw. “Where I am is pretty well documented,” Mayock said in a conference call. “I’ve got Mariota one. I do believe in Marcus Mariota. The other piece of that is as far as Jameis Winston is concerned. I have trust issues both on and off the field. Do I trust him with the football on the field, given the way he turned the ball over? Especially an issue with 18 interceptions — that could have been 40 very easily.” Mayock then cites his missing the “red flags” on Johnny Manziel a year ago, when saying he does not believe Winston will change off the field. “To me, those red flags are significant enough that my answer is I would go the other way with Mariota,” Mayock said. “And I’ll put my hand up and say I missed that last year with Manziel. I’m upset with myself for that. Kind of said, ‘Eh, he’s an immature kid,’ and that leads into your second question, which is when kids have significant red flags, how often do they change? “I would say, my perception in my experience is that plus or minus 90 percent of the time, a kid ultimately turns into who is he’s always been. So when you get a repeated pattern of bad decisions, you might be on your best behavior leading up to the draft, you’ve got all kinds of people around you telling you what to say and how to act, but once you get comfortable whether it’s one year in, two years in, three years in, once you get comfortable again in the NFL and you get paid, typically that kid goes back to being who he always was.”
How about Matty Ice during his redshirt senior year when he sucked him off before the draft even though he had 19 picks?
He also had 200+ more throws then Winston did this year throwing to Gunnel,Robinson from Minnesota and Purvis. Andre Calendar lead BC in catches...I know everyone remembers these cats, fun to watch in college but no future 1st rounders like Jameis had. If you wanna go RS SR for RS soph...I guess it could be a point somewhere in there. Personally think Winston will be a good pro...more shocked if he wasnt but this honestly the 600th time ive seen a fsu fan compare them 2 off picks. I dont know why he turned the ball over so much, I just know it cost ya in the end.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK “How I’m supposed to handle it if I just say I got them for free? … A week before, it was my buddy’s birthday, and we had got a cake, and we met a dude that was inside Publix, and he had said that Hey, anytime you come in here, I got you. So that day we just walked out and he hooked us up with that, and when I came in to get crab legs, I did the same thing, and he just gave them to me, and I walked out, and someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn’t pay for them, and that’s how the whole thing started.” —Jameis Winston, explaining to Jim Harbaugh on an episode of ESPN’s Draft Academy how the Great Crab Legs Heist came about. That Winston seemed intimidated enough by Harbaugh to break his silence in the matter on camera (presumably subjecting his former school to NCAA scrutiny) doesn’t bode well for his future employer’s public relations staff
To be fair he said future first rounders, which Travis Rudolph and Ermon Lane have the potential to be. But on the same hand experience at the position means a lot in a passing game like Fisher uses.
2013 I would agree he had the best WR trio in the country. 2014 he had a stud WR and TE and then nothing but inexperience. Even if the pure talent was better, it was a big drop-off from 13.
in 2013 we did but EJ had the same exact offensive guys and we didnt look like a juggernaut that we did with Winston. He was the engine.
He's a lucky one to have the talent at WR like Tampa does I gotta say. If Jameis fails its on him. Now you know Ima pull for Glennon to be ya man out
Bucs WR-TE cores are just what the doctor ordered for ole jameis, and if doug martin can get his head out of his ass
To which I think with Kelvin Benjamin we see the massive difference a year of game experience can make. I don't even think the biggest Noles homer was saying he was a first round pick in the 2014 Draft going into 2013.
Jameis Winston compared to draft bust JaMarcus Russell executives see bust potential in Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the presumptive top pick in next week's draft. One thing to note: Both executives were quoted anonymously, meaning there were no names attached to their criticisms. One of the executives brought up former Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell -- one of the biggest draft busts ever -- when discussing Winston with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Lack of focus by JaMarcus is what I see in Winston," one of the personnel men said. "They're physically talented, but during the course of a game they kind of lose their focus and just put the ball up for grabs. "I see the body. I see the lack of focus. I see the same coach and system. Only Winston's not as good an athlete and his arm isn't as strong as JaMarcus'." FSU coach Jimbo Fisher was Russell's offensive coordinator at LSU. In addition, first-round quarterbacks Christian Ponder and EJ Manuelwere coached by Fisher at FSU, and neither has impressed in the NFL. "We're looking at another guy (Winston) that's a product of the system and has tremendous athletes around him," the other personnel man said. "Oh, my goodness. "Is this guy really going to be the first pick of the draft? You'd be drafting a quarterback that can't run, has off-field problems, has no power in his legs and makes bad decisions on the field. Somebody's going to make a horrible mistake." It's one thing to criticize Winston anonymously; it's another to compare him to Russell. Winston had great success, including winning the Heisman and a national title, as a collegian; Russell was a solid starter at LSU for two seasons, but worth noting is that LSU won the national title in 2007, the year after Russell left. Russell had great measurables and a cannon for an arm, and was the No. 1 pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 draft. But he lasted just three NFL seasons and, above all else, was criticized for his work ethic and for never really being in shape. It's certainly possible that Winston doesn't pan out. If he doesn't, his work ethic won't be the reason. As for the anonymous nature of the quotes? People are quick to criticize and find fault when there is no attribution. But asking for negatives and attaching a name? In that scenario, few people are willing to comment. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...nston-compared-to-draft-bust-jamarcus-russell
This is just a lazy comparison for more reasons than I have time to go into. Could he bust? Absolutely, but not in the same way Russell did.
Cliffs: No other team would have taken him number one, that was the Raiders doing Raiders things. Even Lane Kiffin thought it was a bad idea. Winston's work ethic isn't in question.
Winston's football IQ is better, his college production is better, he has better work ethic, he is a leader where Russell wasnt. It's an awful comparison.
mike alstott event in tampa, you can see Lovie hanging out in the background....its a wrap he's also playing in the Derrick Brooks celebrity golf tournament in tampa today with a huge amount of bucs players/former players and the coaching staff
