It totally can be, especially if you live in Long Island or New Jersey (the issues of commuting into Penn Station are numerous, and greater by the day). Thankfully I live in Westchester and my commute is mostly uneventful. The subways have been a nightmare, trying to shove myself onto a packed L train on the daily was not going to fly 6 months pregnant.
through a series of random events, i've eaten at Leuca (in the William Vale hotel) like 3-4 times in the last few weeks. definitely recommend to you guys. last time, we got the large format roast pig and it was incredible. need at least 4 to split it though, it's a ton of food.
OopsPowSurprise That's a direct c/p so you get all the spelling errors and everything. This person has great taste and she gets very serious about her reviews so I take this as a 10/10
we have a place here that does burrata + pickled pea pods w/ grilled homemade bread call me a basic bitch all you want but its a must order
the mozzarella cheese used in the authentic burrata is made in Italy with imported water buffalo milk. hard to find in this country. Eataly gets regular imports though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_mozzarella
Anyone have a rec for getting out of the city on the Fourth? Have car for the day, five people in it. Looking for a Long Island or New Jersey beach, or maybe upstate a bit. Somewhere with fireworks but not too psychotic with traffic and people
Went to Four Charles this past Tuesday (11:30 res). Strongly recommend. Made it to Traif last night in Williamsburg and was one of my favorite meals. So flavorful.
Yes please! I like burrata a lot but def not an obsession, maybe more so now that I'm pregnant and can't eat ANYTHING GOOD. Mmmmmmm, Traif is the best! Did you do the tasting menu?
Staying on topic, I had an appetizer at this place in LA that was burrata, grilled peaches, prosciutto, and arugula. It was heavenly
I went to Lilia last night. There may be a new contender for my Best Pasta in NYC rankings. l'Artusi (Manhattan) and Roberta's (Brooklyn) were the current holders, but I think Lilia takes the Brooklyn crown. It was top to bottom an amazing meal.
Williamsburg Hotel is relatively cheap since it's still under construction, but solid location and pretty nice
Here for the weekend, going to a 30th tonight. I was thinking about hitting up a museum while waiting for my friends to get off work. I'm not doing the Tenement one, because I don't think I have time and am not overly interested in the subject matter. What's the best museum that has history as it relates to mankind. I don't really like natural history museums because cultural things and history of the people are far more fascinating to me. I was looking at this one, anyone ever been? http://www.nyhistory.org/
It's eh, more about the city Walk in to Calle Ocho for their sangria brunch that starts at noon. Get drunk then go to the natural history museum a block away Tenement kicks ass though
It's the best way to go to the museum of natural history imo You end up with 3 good hours and avoid the early rush, and also get wasted and eat really good food
Yeah remember they changed it though? They tried to class it up when they moved the location to within a hotel. You used to be able to walk up to the sangria bar and pour yourself as much as you wanted. Now you have to wait for a waitress to bring you the sangria (which from what I recall, took foreverrrrr).
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look it up and give it a try the next time I'm in that neighborhood. My wife was actually in the mood for sushi so we wound up at a booth in the Gansevoort Market called Sushi by Bao. It was actually really good (so were the macarons at the cookie place in the same market, btw.)
Looking for fill up my apt in the UWS, if you know anyone looking for a place lmk. Two bedrooms available
