wait, you could've had drinks with philip seymour hoffman, but there were "no chicks," so you left? give me one reason why I shouldn't ban you right now
Dude brought a book to a bar. I'm assuming that's the universal "please nobody talk to me tonight" signal.
Fiance currently lives in the UES, I'm moving to the city in July, how many $$$ for a decent 1BR in Soho/Noho/Nolita area? We pull in around 375k per year, but would like to keep rent as low as possible, but don't want to live in a pure shit apt.
Just the opposite. It's the "I'm smart, so talk to me smart bitches who don't want to look slutty until later, after I've approved of you being smart" trick. Crossword puzzles are also great for this.
Probably starting $2500-$3000 for decent real 1 bedroom. Prices are going back up. Was living in the LES up until last summer. Had an awesome deal on a really cool 2bdrm 2 bath and that "awesome" deal was $4400/month.
Real Jewish Deli's usually won't put cheese on sandwiches. I doubt Katz would care, but I can't remember ever seeing a sandwich with cheese on it there.
Pretty sure real Jewish delis won't use white wonder bread either. This whole sandwich seems like its making fun of Tebow.
Damn those numbers are mind blowing. My mortgage on a qt million dollar house is $1,250 a month. $4,400 a month, I would have my house paid for in 3-4 years.
That is why I am very glad I can only access my company email through my company laptop and I have to enter multiple passwords. I that would never happen.
So I went into the city for the first time on Sunday, really enjoyed myself but it was pretty much just a scouting trip for future visits. I need to get something really good to eat next time so I'll have to look back through this thread for ideas unless anyone has any new places to go.
Doesn't he know that disparaging remarks are only to be given face-to-face, with no one else present? And NEVER in print?
What's your price point and cuisine type? I keep a spreadsheet of every place I've ever eaten in the city with ratings (I'm a pretentious foodie douchebag), so definitely happy to throw some recommendations your way.
I'm really open to anything, I love Italian and Chinese food. Having lived in the south my whole life there is a whole different level for food here that I haven't experienced yet. My price point is open as well, my current GF is coming to visit soon and I'd like to take her somewhere nice. I guess it's pretty much I'm willing to open my wallet but the high end stuff is still probably off limits.
A couple of recs: Caracas Arepa Bar (http://www.yelp.com/biz/caracas-arepa-bar-new-york) - Authentic Venezuelan arepas (sorta like a really thick corn tortilla taco). Venezuelan chick I was dating at the time took me here; super authentic and the food is ridiculous. It's in the East Village and really informal and economical. Momofuku Noodle Bar (http://www.yelp.com/biz/momofuku-noodle-bar-new-york) - Awesome Asian fusion. Steamed pork buns there are a must try if you visit this city, imo. Again, E. Village informal and well-priced. The quality of food here for the price is just nuts so far as NYC goes. Katz Deli (http://www.yelp.com/biz/katzs-delicatessen-new-york#query:katz deli) - Mentioned many times ITT. An NYC institution. If you've never been to a Jewish-style NYC deli, this is the one to try. Market Table (http://www.yelp.com/biz/market-table-new-york) - Probably my current favorite date spot. Cool vibe, and the food is retardedly good. All their stuff is sourced locally when possible, so it's really fresh ingredients. The menu is awesome and they always have dope specials. More formal than the others, but still not fancy white table cloth. Hope this helps bro. Lemme know how it goes and if you try any of these. Always can provide more suggestions if needed.
Forgot to mention, if you love Italian, check out Gradisca. They have this Italian woman there who hand rolls the pasta in the front. It's amazing.
More italian advice: Lunch(cheaper)-- Gaia... probably my favorite, think only open for lunch, but the freshest ingredients in the game and everything is really good... check the yelp score for verification... it has flawless reviews. Also getting lunch at Eataly is great. And of course, I guess the Meatball Shop is italian and it is fucking heaven. Dinner-- The Frank's restaurants in the east village: Lil Frankies (mostly nice pizza), Franks (nice italian), and Supper (nicer italian)... all are very good and have the best tomatoes in NYC... eat at Franks all the time. An inexpensive nice place I go to alot also is Otto Enoteca... ran by Mario Batali. $$$$-- Il Mulinos.. has the best veal in the city... and Il Buco is a really nice and good option as well
Chinese... Lunch-- Prosperity Dumpling... just the best dumplings... really cheap. Dinner-- RedFarm is a newish place that has great chinese and a fun scene. Joe's Shanghai is like the most well known place in NYC and is a good pick. $$$$-- Buddakan... defines nice chinese in NYC. late night-- Bayard 69 (the place like has no name, its on 69 Bayard St)... filthy and delicious.
Let me just continue the love and say I support all your recs too (caracas, momofuku, and katz enter my belly as much as possible)
