Don’t know how late you’re talking, but L’Express in Gramercy Park is the coolest 24 hour restaurant on the planet. https://lexpressnyc.com/
Great option. There are much better bistros, but this is a good spot for late night. One Knight If you want to try legit Korean BBQ, Baekjong is open til 1am and it’s great. Not far from where you’re staying.
will definitely get over here while we're in town, if not Saturday night, sounds awesome and the menu looks amazing
i tried to go to baekjong recently around 1am and it was closed. ended up at some other korean bbq place nearby i would probably never normally go (seemed like a tourist trap with a dj). food was outstanding.
this is probably a jaded new yorker thing to say, but this is so funny to me having walked past this place everyday for 8 years. i have eaten there a number of times it was just more of a “eh, let’s just go to l’express,” when we couldn’t agree
There's one around the corner from wherever I'm posted up in SF anymore and my god does it crush at 2am.
maybe cuz I’ve never had it at 2am drunk, or that it’s the NJ locations, but halal guys has sucked when I’ve had it.
saying it sucked was overly critical, more overrated relative to the raving I had heard. Basically was nothing special relative to plenty of other gyros I’ve had.
I won’t fight you here. I think it’s very good and grubby but I’m sure there are plenty similar plates to be had
Maturation in NYC is getting off the buzzy train and just settling in for repeat visits to places that nobody talks about anymore but are still world class
Hit original Halal Guys stand at 53 and 6 for the first time in 2004. Was a revelation. Still is. Wish they still had the original lamb tho. the best restaurant in the city right now is BAR BÊTE Fancy
spent a day wandering NY this winter, probably 8 miles walked. ended up stopping at valhalla for beers, had heady topper shockingly, then grabbed halal guys before getting on the metro back to the hotel. ate it on the rooftop with beers from the corner and too much hot sauce. was a great night. never had it anywhere but the original cart
Hello NYC Bros, Me and my gf are gonna be relocating to NYC probably in ~May all the way from Birmingham, AL. Right now we’re thinking Hoboken would be an ideal location for us (budget-wise, can still have a car easily, etc). I know that’s not technically NYC but whatever, close enough. Any pro tips for someone like me relocating? Particular areas to avoid/try to be close to? And yes I need to find a new job, too. I’m a mechanical engineer if any of you have any connections.
I lived in Hoboken for 3.5 years after college so if you have any questions about there or Jersey city, let me know. Good luck with the job part, unfortunately I have no connections in that industry.
No recs on Hoboken but just dropped by to say having a car in Brooklyn isn't bad at all–in fact, it's super convenient. Budget wise, that might affect things obviously. But if you find something comparable in Brooklyn, I'd just say that in the seven years I've lived here neither I, nor my other borough friends, have made the trek to see colleagues/friends in Jersey City, Hoboken, or Fort Lee. Maybe that matters for you guys, maybe not, but those I know in NJ can feel a bit isolated.
I moved to NYC from Bham a few years ago (no longer in NYC). Start updating your wardrobe now or plan to do so when you get there.
Charlie Conway, Step up your wardrobe game. Go to express and have an chick employee help you chose 3-4 jeans (about 60.00 each and make sure they fit well). Then match 3-4 long sleeve dress shirts, make sure you buy at least one long sleeve that stands out like Red (about 55.00 per dress shirt). Next select 2 belts with nice buckles ask the employee to help you with it (20.00 per belt). Then buy 2 dress shoes black and brown (about 70-90 each). Ask her for help picking out 4-5 t-shirts buy them at any other store you want, just make sure there stylish. Next is accessories. No its Not gay to add stylish accessories to your wardrobe. Purchase one of those leather fossil watches black or brown (75.00 each). Add a few clean bracelets (15-40.00). Purchase 2-3 necklaces with unique pendants (doesn't have to gold/silver, 20-50.00 each Don't know if you have hair or not but go to a salon and have a female advice you on what haircut style will fit you best. Then go to your local gym and sign up. Work out 3-5 times a week if possible. The last thing you gotta buy is that family packj of trojan condoms from costco cause you're going to be banging chicks left and right. Good luck
Car owner in BK checking in depends on the neighborhood. Can be a pain in the ass sometimes but its totally doable, especially if one of you is WFH
Downtown Hilton is the way to go, we actually used it to house out of state friends/family for our wedding in '18. If you're not dead set on a Hilton, staying at one of the boutique hotels in Williamsburg works too.
Thursday is going to be a complete shit show between the first day of March Madness and St. Patrick's Day. My wife and I both have the day off...where should we post up?
Not sure if you plan on spending all your time in Brooklyn, but we stayed at the Hilton right next to the WTC the last time we went to NYC and had a great experience. Part of the appeal was that it is right over a subway hub and gave us easy access for the day we spent in Brooklyn (I was it was only like 1 or 2 stops away) and then the rest of Manhattan for the other 2 days we were there.
Just realized I was confusing two restaurants and I’ve never been to Bar Bete… and so now im going tonight. what’s the order? Adding Nelson as a spirit guide as well
