I own 7 electric and one acoustic. I'd own less electrics, but my basement flooded a few years back impairing the value of 4 of them. I had them professionally cleaned and set up again after, they play and sound great. I might have sold them to try other stuff, but since I would still disclose the flood in the listing, they're worth more to me than I could get for them. They're all intermediate level instruments but I like them. Zero guitars. 3 mandolins and a keyboard. I’m saving up for a Pava mandolin now. Played one at IBMA last year and have thought about it almost every day since. Been going at it 4 years now and things have slowed down significantly for me in the last few months. Everything is feeling smoother and the improvisation is starting to flow without me thinking about it on some tunes. I feel like I’m starting to be more expressive and not just repeating something I’ve practiced. Really working on finding double stops and tremolo on them, and sliding between them. Huge on the mandolin for filling out the sound. Like replacing a phrase/portion of the melody with a double stop run up the neck building tension that way, then jump back into the melody when you want. Stopped going to the beginner jam here and found two other open jams. Crazy fun.

Anybody an amp expert in here? Looking at a 1x12 combo amp to make load in much easier moving forward and getting to the paralysis by analysis stage. Considering the following and can't figure it out: Mesa Fillmore 25 Mesa Badlander 25 Mesa Mark V 35 Friedman Small Box Should I consider something else? I want something with 2 channels with ~independent EQ.
Fender makes really good combos. Depends on what you want to pay/play but considering a Mesa prob means you're not that worried about money. Should also look at amp modelers/profilers if you're worried about load outs. Because they're light, do tons of sounds and have tons of onboard effects .
Fender combos are definitely the standard that every amp company has been ripping off for the past 50 years. Seems like everything I read about them goes on and on about the clean tones, but I don't really play all that much clean music, so those may be lost on me. Don't know the slightest thing about modelers/profilers (other than some huge names use them). Wouldn't they vary significantly based on the quality of the house PA? I'd be nervous if that's the case.
They have an xlr(or 1/4") out so it's like line level of your entire rig into that pa. I would think you'd get way better results even with a bad pa than trying to match levels with an amp. Also tons of eq options you could use to counteract pa. My understanding is it's way easier with a modeler/profiler
This may have just made up my mind - the Mark V 35 has a DI output on the back of the amp, so it seems like the best of all worlds.
Yeah those Mesa Mark series amps are definitely top notch for versatility and just great overall sounds. Too pricey for me but if you’re playing out a lot then I couldn’t imagine a better small tube combo for most rock styles. Do you run a pedal board live too? If so what’s on it?
That’s probably what I should do, but I’m afraid to learn new things. The thought of showing up to a gig with zero control of my sound gives me anxiety (which is dumb, because my poor playing makes the tone entirely irrelevant!)
Yeah. Nothing crazy. Delay, overdrive, fuzz, harmonizer, tuner, and a wah. Couple others that come on and off depending on songs.
I asked because a lot of the YouTube folks have been raving about the IK Multimedia Tone X pedal amp lately. If you wanted to dip a toe in the modeling/profiling world that may be a relatively inexpensive way to try it. Same idea as a Kemper but in a pedal form factor essentially. But yeah if I were you I’d just grab that Mark V and go honestly.
Went ahead and bought it. Found a used one in mint condition from a music store under 2k. Maybe it's junk, but it's worth a shot.

Saw Incubus last night. The guitarist has switched from a PRS to a Tele, only guitar he played all night. Does not nail the crystalline clean tones the same IMO
PRS usually has the coil splitting thing. I think he prob used the neck HB for clean though. Fender Strat and PRS have the best clean tone to me.
It depends to me. I also never loved coil splits. A lot of people do but I never used it on the guitars I have it on. Want that twang? Tele Want that glassy sound? Strat Want a round darker sound? HB Those are my personal preferences at least
I liked my PRS single coil sounds when I was playing alone in my bedroom. Then I played with a group and couldn't cut through the mix, so I used the HBs exclusively. The single coils are viable for recording I guess but not playing live with a noisy rock lineup.
I didn't do more than the free month. He was still in the process of updating his videos, it'd probably be better if all his old stuff was replaced. I found a guy in Chicago that does bluegrass guitar lessons on Skype so I'm working with him for a while
A lot of guitar youtubers have guitar courses or do skype lessons. I've never been sure if the courses are legit are not but I'm sure there are blue grass guys like that.
Does anybody have a Mesa Combo amp? I've got a couple incredibly stupid questions. 1. The footswitch came in a canvas bag thingy inside the back of the cab that doesn't remove easily. Is that supposed to stay there? 2. There's a leather baggy thing at the bottom of the cabinet that is wired to the top of the cab. What in the world is that? Pic for reference: Spoiler

Squier is lame but that's a nice looking Jazzmaster. I've actually never played one but I assume it's good for an indie/shoegaze type band.
What pedals and pedalboard does everyone have? I currently have Stereo Chorus, Digital Delay, Compressor/Sustainer and Distortion, all Boss. Looking to add one or two oddballs. 80s, new wave, shoegaze sounds. Currently just have everything tangled in a bag. Want to get a compact board that holds 5-7.
Currently have a cheap clone delay, cheap clone chorus, boutique fuzz, boss harmonizer, boss tuner, and a Jerry Cantrell signature wah. Bought a very bare bones homemade pedal board from Etsy. Have about 15 other pedals that I switch out from time to time based on mood.
Pretty sure this is the one I ordered a couple years back. Great kit that has a carrying bag, some patch cables (they are just OK, plugs kinda too fat) and velcro tape. It happened to fit my power brick perfectly underneath as well (tucked up inside the board rails). I play mostly through a modeler so I would feel v dumb saying which pedals I like. I can tell you what the pedals are clones of/modeled after lol
Current setup/backup drawer Really love that EHX Deluxe Memory Boy. Have the expression pedal setup to control the feedback, so I can fade in runaway repeats a la Mars Volta.
It’s a super versatile pedal. For the harmony functions, I use it to add color to some solos (gives a very smashing pumpkins vibe with heavy distortion/fuzz). I’ve also used the harmonies with slight overdrive to emulate horn sections. It also has some crazy modulation settings to make weird noises (which are always fun), but I use it a lot for its whammy settings in which you can go up or down, and control both the length of intro and exit into the pitch shifting. For example, you can set it to go up 2 octaves from your note. You can then control how long it takes to go up those two octaves. So it can “snap” up 2 octaves or it can slowly bend your pitch up over like 5 seconds. Can do the same for the exit from the shifted pitch. If you have it shifted up an octave, you can have it return to the original tone over a longer period of time.
Yeah I might put it back on my board. My SD-1 is analogman modded and sounds great. Swap it out in the Angry Driver spot sometimes. The Angry Driver is more versatile but doesn’t sound as good as the SD-1 for that overdrive sound.
