Seems to be a pretty popular series and with the movie coming out I started reading One Shot, the novel the movie is based on. About 2/3 through it. Really enjoying it. Its a fun, easy page turner. I was in dire need of a quicky because Ive been reading some long, in-depth novels lately
I've read all 17 and aside from Echo Burning I loved all of them. Great series with a GOAT lead character. I go back and forth between Reacher and Mitch Rapp as who is the biggest badass out there. I guess I am a Reacher purist as I thought the movie fucking sucked.
I thought the movie was a decent action movie, but it sucked as a Reacher story, if that makes sense. The thing that makes Reacher so great is him as a character. You can't get a feel for Jack _none_ Reacher in a two-hour movie, and Tom Cruise sure as shit is no Jack Reacher.
they tried to make him too jokey and gave him too many one-liners. one of the things that's awesome about him is the fact that he's the silent and brooding type.
If I hadn't read the books I would have thought the movie was ok. But I did and therefore I don't. I didn't feel they stayed true to the character and didn't introduce many of his personality traits/idiosynchrasies that make him so interesting. I told my wife before the movie started that Reacher rarely drives, hitches rides, tags the lead female in most book, and is always the smartest guy in the room. I gave her background on his internal clock, hand to hand combat proficiency, his marksmanship, and his background as a MP. The movie ignored far too much of that stuff and in the process I think cost themselves a chance for a movie franchise with several more movies. I agree that there were too many attempts at being funny with one liners...that just isnt Reacher.
1/4 of the way through One Shot. All are good. I think I liked Killing Floor (1st), Die Trying (2nd) and Persuader (7th) the most so far. Really like One Shot so far, which is supposedly the most popular book. Have not seen the movie. Probably will and be disappointing. My boss saw it and loved it and was telling everybody about it. He hasn't read any of the books though.
Loved Tripwire but One Shot Will always be my #1 because I always wanted to be a Marine Recon Sniper but the migraines ruined that plan.
I understand, but can't approve. Killing Floor and Die Trying probably round up my top three, though I really enjoyed Without Fail and Echo Burning. Ahh, great series.
