Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I agree, but you can't fire Jack for a decision out of his control. Gene Smith wants to build the team 1st and take the QB last. How is that Jack's fault?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Gene just got control. Jack has been influencing this team for years. If he wanted something, it would have happened. As it is, the previous GM became the fall-guy... Jack should have been shown the door with him. It amounts to poor planning on the Jags part. Do they stick with David for 2-3 more years, or throw a green QB to the wolves?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Jack was hired in Jan 03. The draft was in April. You really want to hold Jack responsible for a guy that was drafted 3 months after he was hired? Come on man. He did the best he could with Byron, then cut him to go with Garrard to see what they had there. Garrard is good enough to have been given a shot. He played really well his 1st year, and has since gone backwards. I'm ok with them giving Garrard a shot and not drafting one like 07. He was good enough to try it. As for the future, we'll draft one next year and he'll compete with Garrard next year and definitely take over the next year.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team The Jags front office made it fairly well known this past April that the 2011 draft they will be drafting at least one QB, I am thinking one early and one late myself.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team It has been apparent the Gerrard isn't the answer for several years. This hasn't ever been addressed. I have zero confidence Gene will actually draft a QB. He seems content trading away future picks for no-name "diamonds in the rough".
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team For several years? Really? He was great in 07. He went backwards in 08, which made people think 07 was a fluke. No way they could give up on him after 08, though. Not with how well he played in 08. He followed 08 up with another bad year in 09, and now everyone knows he's probably not the answer. You make it out like he's been shit for 5 years. He's only played 3 years. I would have liked to see them take a QB this year, but they didn't. You can't blame Jack for that, though. And I couldn't give a fuck if a Colts fan has confidence in Gene or not. And for fuck's sake, it's GARRARD, not Gerrard. Like I said in email, you're being like STG by coming in here and talking out of your ass.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I might be a Colts fan, but I'm not talking out of my ass. Unfortunately, I live in Jax & I'm not bi-curious, so I don't see the similarity between STG & I. If you want a teal circle jerk I'll refrain from posting anymore. However... the irony is you are the Jags "fan" most likey to join the "Who Dat" train & start the "Official Saints season thread" .
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Yes, you are talking out of your ass. You're making it out to be that it's Jack's fault that we had shit QB's for the least 7 years. It's not. He didn't draft either of them. The new GM didn't want to draft a QB right away. That's out of Jack's hands. Where are we drinking tomorrow?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Jack deserved as much blame as Shaq Harris, yet only Shaq got the can. :that's racist:
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team No he does not. Shack Harris was a joke and had 100% of the authority when it came to the draft.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team There you go talking about something you don't know about, STG. Shaq had complete control of the draft.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team At first, yes. But, towards the end Jack had just as much influence... hence one of them having to leave. Wayne then hired Gene as GM, who is on board with the direction Jack has/had for the team. Jack's guy got hired. Wayne gave him just enough rope to hang himself... which I think he is doing.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Honestly can't believe you think Jack has had no say in their roster decisions since he arrived. He's just an innocent lamb... trying to make due with the mistakes of other. Come on... seriously?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Who said he had no say? He didn't have final say. The biggest problem with the team has been the QB position, and Jack and little to no say in either of those guys being drafted.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I know he did not have much control at all over the draft.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Shaq & him battled it out over roster decisions... that is common knowledge. He has been the primary influence since he left. There is no way you hand the reins over to a lifetime scout (albiet a good scout). This has been Jack's team since Shaq left.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Why fire him then? The last 18 months have been pretty good in building the team, honestly. Last year's draft was damn good, and we'll have to wait and see on this one.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team As Colts fan, I say keep him. He has yet to win the division in 7 seasons & has 2 playoff appearances & just 1 playoff win to show for it. His "formula" isn't working.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team This. Our draft was good last year. I actually like this year's draft on paper. The only thing you can fault the new regime for is not drafting a QB. However, I just don't think there was one there that they liked. Hell, good QBs are difficult to find.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team They are impossible to come by when you don't draft one. He's a fraction above 0.500 & only had 3 winning seasons... with a few underachieving teams. 3 seasons ago there was talk of "taking over the South" & tons of hype. That was followed by back-to-back last place finishes. I say give him another extension & raise... maybe a statue is in order?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I guess I don't want them to waste a draft pick drafting a QB just for the sake of drafting a QB. I want the draft pick to have a chance at being better than Garrard or McCown. What's the point of wasting a draft pick on a dude that does not have the ceiling of one of those guys. Personally, I would have gone after that bigass QB from Fordham this last draft. But, I do not hold that against them. I also don't fault them for securing the offensive tackle position for 8-9 years with their first to picks of last year's draft. My guess is that they go after Ponder hard in 2011 if he has a good season.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I think Gene has shown to be a capable GM & definitely has an eye for talent. My problem with him is that he wants to "impress" with his picks. The Jags have ignored their need for a QB though. They don't have to take one in the 1st round... impress everyone & waste a 4th rounder on a QB. They have passed on several over past few years that could have competed for the starting spot & might be ready to take over now.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Really? Name one guy drafted in the fourth round or later from last year that could beat out Garrard.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I just pulled the 4th round out of my ass... my point was that they don't have to use an early pick on a QB. In any of the past 3-4 years they could have taken a chance on someone as insurance & developed him. Hell, the Colts drafted Painter a few years back & he will never see the field... hopefully.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team What are the ticket deals between the Jags and UNF
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Well, first, Smith has only had control for two years. Second, they obviously have not seen anyone they like in regard to a developmental QB. They don't need a guy whose ceiling is a backup QB. They need a starting QB. The Jags have a shitload more needs than the Colts. Drafting someone like Painter would be a complete waste. I know that the like the FA QB from Canad that they picked up. They just knew that the could get him via FA rather than draft him.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Unless you are drafting #1, its rare that a QB isn't developmental. Most aren't ready & sit the pine for a season or 2... just like Garrard did. Like I said... Gene seems to be doing okay, but I think it is a mistake to ignore the QB position for as long as the Jags have.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I really don't disagree with you. Just not sure what was out there. My biggest fear is that we get this team to a good spot talent wise throughout the roster and then have to deal with a young QBs growing pains.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Honestly, they could have had McCoy or Claussen cheap this past draft. Either would be a suitable replacement in a year or two.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team We didn't have a 2nd (Derek Cox), and obviously they didn't feel either was worth giving up multiple picks to move up.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Worth it if you feel those two are worth a shit. Obviously they did not like them.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I tend to think either of them would be an upgrade... Both certainly would have generated excitement & possibly driven ticket sales. Obviously I'm not getting paid to evaluate talent though.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Yeah, I guess the powers that be determined that they were not an upgrade. Personally, I think Clausen may be. I think McCoy is a lifetime backup.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I'm bout to pay you to shut the hell up, you Jeff Saturday jersey wearing motherfucker.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Good grief, everyone's out for this damn game. Jordan Black and Paul McQuistan are our starting tackles, I think Garrard will be killed.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I know its only preseason but McCown had a hell of a game.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team i saw underwood had a big catch, do you guys think he'll make the team?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Hard to really tell much from this game bc so many guys were out. Offense didn't do shit, but we didn't even try to run MJD. I don't think we had 10 total run plays lol. I guess they wanted to work on the passing game. Williamson looked great, but he looked that good last year in the presason, too. The one good sign I saw was KR and PR. Karim busted a couple good ones.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Probably between him and Williamson for the last WR spot.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team It's like you've been through my closet... frightening.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I'm just fucking with you. When we were supposed to meet up for the draft, you mentioned owning a Saturday jersey. Now that I've taken care of the pleasantries, fuck Jughead and the gang.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team I remembered. I got stuck at a Draft party & never made it to BW3's to get drinks with you guys & yes I was wearing a Saturday jersey.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Didn't get to see the game last night. Saw the inactive list, are Tyson and Kampman going to be ready for the opener? Also anyone know what's up with D'Anthony and Austen Lane? Either Lane or Hart are going to have to step up this year, it would be nice to get a look at them in the preseason.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team D'anthony's out for the season with an achilles injury, I think Lane's out for precautionary reasons. I think everyone else is good to go, but JDR doesn't want any needless injuries in preseason.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team That's no good about Smith, I thought he was going to help us out a little this year. Also, is anyone else getting that typical backup QB Jacksonville syndrom? McCown got some hype in OTA's and I'm afraid that a good preseason will cause our retarded fanbase to begging for him after every poor Garrard throw. Leftwich over Brunell, Garrard over Leftwich, McCown over Garrard?
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Harvey with a FF and a sack( ) = equaling his career sack number( ) Nelson's lost my faith, but I'm hanging on for one more season for Harvey. Despite being a "meh" fan...I'm contemplating a season ticket. Looking forward to the season, mostly just football. 9-7 and the WC spot would be awesome, but I'm guessing 8-8, capped by the late season possibility of making the playoffs, only to fall flat against teams we can beat. Like the way Gene's building the team...lines first.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Kampman and Tyson can go tomorrow. I know it's just preseason, but fuck the dolphins.
Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team Really need a decent showing out of the first teamers in front of the home crowd. That first preseason game was bush league.
