Didn't get a chance to see the first game but the inactive list was a mile long so I'm sure it wasn't good. The secondary stands no chance if we don't have our #1's in the front 7. How has Morrison looked so far?

Yeah, a lot of guys did not play. Regardless, the Garrard led group did not pick up a first down and looked really pathetic.

I will be there tomorrow night.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

Yea, I stuck out the 2 hour lightning delay and then the rain for the 1st half. Peaced out at halftime.

Pros - Pass rush looked better. Not out of this world or anything, but they at least got some pressure with the 1st unit out there, which is more than we got last year. Garrard actually looked pretty damn good. He and MSW seem to have pretty good chemistry. Hopefully MSW can stay healthy.

Cons - Secondary looked downright awful. Dolphin WR's abused them. They didn't cover anyone. OL looked just as bad. I think MJD probably had negative yards on 5-6 carries that I remember.

Kinda hard to really watch one person from the stands for me. Much easier to do units.

Agree with this. First team offense looked better. Secondary and LBs looked like shit. Defensive line played better.

Got out there at 5. Stayed until 8 or so. Went back and got some drinks at the Brick then we noticed the players coming onto the field on the TV so a couple of us drove back to Everbank and watched the first half.

If JDR doesn't get it done, I'm sure some other coach could handle dealing with the talent we've obtained in the last two drafts.

I stayed until about ten minutes before the game actually started, and was drinking in the budzone for about an hour and half. We thought the game was going to be cancelled, so we just went to square one to continue boozing. If the d-line can consistently get pressure like they did early on, the secondary won't look as bad as they did last night. I was pissed watching the secondary, but I think the entire unit will begin showing gradual improvement. Not having Mathis out there really weakens the entire secondary.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

Sadly, I think that was the case.

Just got in from the game. Awesome turn-out for a preseason game. Was three rows off the field in the NE endzone. We caused ATL to call the two timeouts in a row in the second quarter(got penalized for the second), and the delay of game on the ensuing punt.

Tough to tell much about the game. No starters, plus the inactive list. Most notable, Mincey looked good at DE in the first half...the entire DL actually looks really good. As has been the norm the last few years, this is definitely going to be an inconsistent teams. It's an 8-8 team, with the ability to be a wild card playoff team if a few people step up.

Game wasn't particularly entertaining. McCown started, MoJo didn't, all backups basically. Really good to see a great crowd for the game...have a feeling the turnout for the Denver game is going to be crazy.

This team has looked like hot garbage so far in the preseason, Joe Cullen better be working that d-line hard as hell. Anyone else thinking Greg Jones is done in Jacksonville? Bolen looked pretty good, and costs much less.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

I think so too. I try to never put much into preseason games but my expectations have gone from a hopeful 9 win season to praying for 8-8. Couple things that have stood out:
    • Yes, I think Jones is cut and replaced with Bolen. I think Manuwai is gone too. I have always liked that guy.
    • Derek Cox has looked very average after a solid rookie year. If he does not become an upper echelon CB in this league, that will be a major shock to the Jags.
    • Slim downed Derrick Harvey is no better than the old Derrick Harvey.
    • Our secondary is in bad shape.
    • I think Garrard has gone from average to maybe slightly below average.
    On the positive side:
    • Monroe has looked better and I think Britton will be a good one. Two of the toughest positions have been nailed down for awhile.
    • Knighton is a beast and I think Alualu will be really good too.
    • We still have Mojo.

If Cox doesn't work out in the long run then you can place the blame for these next few seasons directly on Gene. That was a make or break move by him in that draft to give away a second for a player from William and Mary.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

    Nah, 133.

    Couple other thoughts.
    - Cox: I've said it more than one time, something is lacking in the coaching of this team. People called me a homer when Nelson has a solid rookie season, then started regressing with the coaching in Jacksonville. When you take into account that it's also slowly happened with Mathis...and Cox is falling the same way. Now, I'm not saying Nelson was ever going to be Ed Reed, but when things become a pattern, it needs to be addressed.

    - Jones: Heard a lot of talk about him being cut from fans during the game. Like, a lot. It won't surprise me to see him on the cut list before the deadline. I always thought he should have been more involved in the running game than he was, but to say our offensive schemes have been less than stellar over the last few years is certainly an understatement.

    - The thing with Mojo's knee isn't good...and isn't going away. I'd put money on him missing time during the season because of it.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

D-line finally created some pressure, and running up the middle will be a tough task for any team playing us. Cox was beyond terrible, and our secondary is going to get toasted quite a bit at this rate. Mjd looked ok, but not his normal self either. I think he's hurt a bit and wouldn't be surprised if jones or jennings starts getting short yardage carries more. Special teams were phenomenal and I can't wait to see what karim and scotty can do once they get healthy. Walker was a non-factor completely, but Thomas and marcedes looked great. Dillard is officially done for the year.

I actually saw some positives from yesterday's game. The Defense played well enough, it's just the the offense kept putting them in terrible situations. I hope Cox's benching motivates him to play better too, because we need all the help we can get in the secondary. Also, Joe Cullen is starting to earn his money, a couple more sacks and qb pressures.

Players at the same position(or group, in this case) don't just decline for no reason. If you give a good player to a shitty coach, you get a shitty player. It will continue, like our ongoing QB development issues, until this regime is replaced.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - America's Team

Interesting. Outside of the front four, I thought the defense was hideous. The CB play was awful. We do not have an LB or safety that can cover the TE or a RB on underneath stuff (we miss Clint Ingram here). The Chargers obviously knew that Morrison could not cover from his days as a Raider because they just abused him.

Was bummed with Mathis' play. We have a decent pass rush now. There are no excuses anymore.

Kampmann was very good. Alualu was double teamed a good bit yesterday which was encouraging. Harvye remains invisible.

Nothing new on offense. Garrard is the most inconsistent QB I have ever seen. Good game against the Broncos then a crazy terrible performance against the Chargers.

Re: Official Thread for the Jaguars - Can't get rid of Del Rio fast enough

What a fucking horrible game. My anger is still too great to form truly coherent thoughts so I will go bullet format:
    • I was never big on the JDR-has-to-go thing (mostly due to our terrible QB situation) but that is not the case anymore. You cannot lay two consecutive eggs like that. You cannot.
    • David Garrard is in the bottom eighth of NFL QBs and that may be kind, since he is a mid-30 year old veteran and the rest of the bottom eighth are probably rookies. No pocket presence. Holds on to the ball way too long. Inaccurate, especially on the deep ball. Oh, and David, STOP FUCKING SMILING AND LAUGHING AFTER GETTING CRUSHED ON YOUR HOME FIELD. Fucking asshole
    • The secondary is easily the worst in the NFL. I actually would not mind having Nelson back. Mathis is not near as good as he thinks he is. I had given him some slack in years past because we had no pass rush. Not so this year. He is nothing more than slightly above average.
    • Could have been the same bullet as above - what the fuck is going on with Derrick Cox? Active but did not play. If this is a JDR mindgame, fuck JDR (actually, fuck him anyhow). Cox has to be a decent player for this team. If his confidence is shot due to one game, then piss pour talent evaluation by Gene Smith et al
    • The o-line is going to get killed by the press today and I don't think its fair. Monroe did not play well yesterday but he did not play terribly either. Graham and Cole are pure speed, upfield pass rushers. I thought Monroe and Britton did a decent job of forcing them upfield. The problem: Garrard did not step up in the pocket.
    • Jaguars d-line is the only thing keeping this defense in the game right now.

    :golfclap:

Teams don't even have to respect out pass game at this point. Send the house to stop the run and get pressure on Garrard, and that's ballgame. He can't process it quick enough to find the open guy. It's sad to see multiple players get worse year after year.

Yeah, they have been going nuts yesterday and today. Pretty standard. Hell, I have been going nuts. I am pretty sure they put in a claim on Trent Edwards. I hope the Jags get him. And, no, he's not the answer. But at least we would have two guys that "could" win and NFL game. I am worried that Garrard's head may be fried.

The best callers are the numbnut Gator fans who call in and say "herf derf, betcha wish the Jags drafted Tebow. Told ya you'd be sorry." To which, all the radio guys hang up and say "he's the Broncos third team QB, STFU"
