They've already picked up next year. That was done prior to this season. 6 weeks ago, there was zero talk of signing him to an extension. In fact, we were looking for options bc he was the weak link on the team. Knowing they have tags available makes it easy to let next year play out and make a decision after the season. I don't see them doing a long term deal based on 6-8 weeks of good play this year after 3.5 years of pretty abysmal play. I'll absolutely run the risk of having to tag him for a year to avoid giving him $100m this offseason bc he had a good 6 weeks vs terrible defenses. Finish this year strong, prove you can do it for 16 games next year, and then we'll talk.
And it's not even been 6 weeks. We're talking 3 solid games. He was 19/33 for 160 yards, 0 TD, and an INT vs the Cards. In the last 6 weeks, he's had 3 good games. They just happen to be the last 3. The fact that people are freaking out over 3 solid games shows just how fucking bad he's been for 3.5 years. And this is with the benefit of the best rushing attack in the league. It's not like he's the focal point of the offense. And those 3 games have come against the 27th and 31st ranked pass defenses and a Seahawks defense missing more than half their starters. So yea, let's pump the brakes on extension talk. It's not happening this offseason.

They have the best run game in the NFL. And it's hard to catch it when it's 20 yards over the WR's head right into the arms of the DB. But yea man he's great.
