I think if Pantoni and the strength coach and others called Urban and said they wanted to work for him, he wouldn't tell them no. And I think it's pretty likely he had some kind of conversation with the people at OSU who he would have hired to at least gauge interest in making that jump.
You’re a fool if you think Mark Pantoni would prefer his current job over a job with Urban in the NFL.
his SIL who was a graduate assistant then moved to QB coach when we had an opening. He's married to the hottest Meyer daughter, and keeps moving up. Can't be mad at him! #teamnicki
It's possible they don't want to follow Urban again and leave a stable situation for something that might not work out 2-3 years down the road if he doesn't do well or retires again. I wouldn't be surprised if he reached out to Hartline too.
This is so dumb. Pantoni is a Florida native, a UF grad, owes his entire career to Urban and the two are extremely close. If your mentor offers you an NFL job, in your home state and for a raise, you aren’t saying no.
You can play the flip side of that just as easily. Pantoni and Urban are close. If Urban knows Pantoni wants to join him and make that career move, I'm supposed to believe Urban would say "I know you want to join me and I would love to hire you, but I won't out of loyalty to an employer I no longer work for"?
You could argue Pantoni’s strongest traits don’t translate to the NFL personnel dept. I’m sure he has incredible organization skills but Urban needs someone with experience, expertise and instincts in FA, savvy cap decisions, etc Marotti is exceptional for the college level but college strength coaches and pro strength coaches have a different role To me, guys like Wilson, Hartline and Larry Johnson could be most valuable to Urban because they are experts at their position and could garner immediate respect from professionals
I don’t disagree with you. I’m saying Urban would never offer him, unlike those here who said Pantoni would turn it down.
I guess he's just tired of recruiting, I think his best days as a dc are over but I'm sure he could've got a dc job somewhere if he wanted one.
I certainly didn't want him at UF and if he was as good a recruiter as he was talked up to be he wouldn't have left USF as a complete dumpster fire.
Fun fact - Ryan Stamper absolutely BAPTIZED a young bright eyed offensive lineman kennypowers on a blitz in high school. There was a WR that ended up going to Florida on that team whose name escapes me that also had like 200 yards at half.
I'm not as down on Linehan as a lot of others, but that's a lot less impressive than I would have expected his coordinators to be. Props to Cullen, though. Most people don't ever recover from getting arrested for drunkenly driving naked through a Wendy's drive thru. Ravens are losing damn near their entire defensive staff if that happens, too. Two coaches (LBs and DBs) are going to Michigan. Cullen coaches the DL.
Like Doyle McPoyle said, Pantoni is in a different stage of life than 2011. It’s a different life choice for Pantoni to follow Meyer to Ohio State when he was 29 and looking to establish a career than it is to be married with kids at 38 while having a career. He’s at $250,000 now, set for a raise, and has an extremely stable job situation. Why chase Meyer for a three year stint in Jacksonville?
Remember reading articles how he checked the mailbox every day waiting for his grades to come back right. Disheartening memory
This was the one I was talking about. https://247sports.com/player/mike-mcintosh-44587/ The year prior I was JV and we played first coast they had a huge WR named Amp Hill that flamed out at LSU. They were not fun to play against.
Amp, Craig Davis Early Doucet, Dwayne Bowe and a blast from the past..Xavier Carter from Palm Bay, RFN high school
I couldn’t imagine someone sticking with this pathetic franchise through the last decade and then saying urban meyer and charlie strong are the final straw because of their collegiate coaching pasts.
