This guy has to be on the hot seat right??
I hope not he’s perfect for them
You guys are gonna make og mad
$40 million buyout
Holy fuck, is it really that much?
I would say he is but I dont think he will be fired this year because of the circumstances. He did a lot to undo what he was working towards in a short period of time. I wouldn't personally fire him because I dont know who we'd be able to hire that I'd consider better.
That number one draft pick is going to be awesom......wait.....what?
tanking for Trevor
Osu has literally broken the PSU and Michigan programs
Biggest buyout ever and first bad year during a pandemic. I think he’s safe.
The silence you hear from the national media is something though, Franklin has done a tremendous job buddying up with guys like Bruce Feldman and Pete Thamel.
does he deserve to be under real scrutiny for his job performance? yes
is he in any real danger of being fired? no
Giant buyouts to try and make money off of your coach leaving, then having that coach suck is textbook "when keeping it real goes wrong."
Dude was suppose to be a good recruiter and has sucked at that
Yeah I think we were preseason #7... this is an u mitigated disaster I couldn’t have fathomed. He’s not getting canned this year but obviously next year will be more telling.
This isnt remotely accurate of a take. He’s improved the talent level of this program tremendously during his run.
I’ve said this privately on our board and will repeat it again... they land a talented portal QB and next year they will be fine.
Who? He’s landed 1 of the top 16 recruits this year in state. Including a legacy instant starter on the OT, McCord who would start in two years, whom would’ve brought Harrison Jr with him. Missed an instant starter last year in Fleming, missed out on Jurkovec. Took Kunitz (who hasn’t played) instead missed out on Pitts
Can’t even keep his own players out of the portal
matters on who leaves and if Franklin can change the mindset. You have great players and a whole lot of shit.
Also look at Indiana, you dominated them and now Allen has them believing they can beat anyone. Momentum is a thing. Also NW last year vs this year
This is wishful thinking
northwestern is always good every other year it’s science
it sounds like franklin is allowing players to rub their penises on other players faces so I guess he’s at the right program for those kinds of shenanigans
Imagine losing the best tight end in the country to this worthless motherfucker
That's nothing compared to the $220+ million Sandusky cost PSU
Franklins recruiting has been very solid outside of this years class. He was off to a ripping start for 2022 too but who knows how that’ll turn out now...
Idk who the heck that is
He’s had a top-15 class almost every year he’s been there. For non-PSU fans that’s pretty impressive. Cuz there aren’t a lot of selling points (that are on-par or exceed what other programs can offer) to going to Penn State. So getting any big time players is 100 percent a testament to the staff.
And unless I’m remembering incorrectly, Penn State has basically been in the top-10 in the polls and playing for Big 10 titles since he’s been there. And plenty of PSU fans saying he’s the best coach in the conference (post Urban).
One bad season with opt outs, and now he’s a bum? Lol. All these NFL openings and potential better college programs looking for coaches. You really think you could get an upgrade? Some PSU fans confusing themselves for SEC fans lol.
Not to mention, he’s made chicken salad out of chicken shit at QB through this tenure.
Until he gets a QB seasons like this are gonna keep happening
He's not wrong. No top 10 team has ever gone 0-5. That's pretty special.
the QB issue is a problem of his own making, but yea I think most of this is accurate.
for the record I don’t think there’s many PSU fans that think there’s an immediate upgrade out there.
Any relation to Aaron?
Don’t know if Franklin knows what a good QB looks like, based on the players he’s offered from previous years and how they turned out
No... and I don’t think any psu fan has called for it.
“one bad season” is a bad take though. We’re not 2-3. We’re 0-5 getting blown out to Iowa and Maryland.
They got off easy
edit: terrible wording on my part
11-3, 11-2, 9-4, 11-3 heading into this year that doesn’t count.
I would think he is extremely safe.
like Justin Fields?
Evet heard of a little guy named trace mcsorley? Also... not a Franklin guy but I just love this
The worst coach and recruiter of the Mcelwain era (Greg Nord) who somehow convinced Kyle Pitts to come to Florida.
Franklin's actual coaching has always sucked and imo Moorhead got a major bump from guys like Feldman who hyped him up. I think he'll turn things around recruitingwise in future years but if he can't there's really no reason to keep him, he'll never beat anyone through x's and o's.
Super highly agree.
We had a committed Justin Fields when he was a 4 star?
yeah moorhead got major media hype that was mostly undeserved because of the talent at his disposal that made him look good
Yeah and he decommitted. Penn state being a national brand you think they could get a pretty decent QB
I’m just popping back and forth between alerts in this thread and the Harbaugh thread trying to figure who has it worse.
Nowhere in the post
"Don’t know if Franklin knows what a good QB looks like, based on the players he’s offered from previous years and how they turned out"
do you talk about landing a good quarterback. you said he didnt know what they looked like based on the players who he has offered.
How is “one bad season” a bad take? Lol. Franklin has literally had one bad season. And I’m sure you know this but based on your post I’ll have to state the obvious, doesn’t matter if you’re 6-7 or 0-13. It still only counts as one season. His team’s performance in the first 5 weeks of this year does NOT retroactively reduce his success in all the previous season. Dude was 7-6 his first two seasons which was decent based on transitioning to his players and still dealing with the Pedo scandal fallout. Since then he’s been 42-11, competed for Big 10 titles, and made BCS bowls. That pretty damn good. And doesn’t matter how bad you look this year, it doesn’t change those numbers.
So yes, he’s had one bad season. And I’ll need you to explain to me how that’s a bad take.
Plus, not having Parsons there is probably a bigger reason why you’re 0-5 than anything Franklin is doing. Ask any team/coach how much of a difference there is in effort and attitude when your “Alpha” player is on the field.
