Was Patrick Stewart knighted? I honestly did not know that.
Justin Fields, Jurkovec and Jayden Daniels are three good quarterbacks in college that’s he’s offered in 6 years
those are the only players that showed an iota of mutual interest
Just hire Hugh Freeze
Jurkovic might suck
Sure was. My avatar pic is real. Minus the bat’leth.
I admire your optimism even if it is a little too much
As a Miami fan, I’m used to watching the players just quit. Sorry Penn State bros.
congrats to James Franklin in offering Justin Fields a scholarship
“Bad” is an understatement is the point. Not the “one season0 He’s been good the rest of the time. I like Franklin for our program; he’s a good program manager, not a good coach. If he finds the right recruits and have a good year he can keep the train moving but he’s limited. I just don’t have the expectation that we would get a better hire next go around so he’s got leash remaining. Idk how he sells the program going forward after this season.
Basically the same way tons of other programs will. Covid year was just a crazy, cluster-fuck fluke. Then he says look at our results from every other non-pandemic season.
In this thread, I’ve read that based on your national brand JF should have more success recruiting QBs. Then also, how can he sell PSU ever again after this season. One seems to answer the other. You guys are all over the map in your unprecedented winless state lol.
This is another crazy statement... They have constantly offered and been in the mix with top QBs every year Franklin has been at PSU with the exception of 2021 and I would make a case they did the best to land Caleb but given the new OC that was a long shot. They also identified and had Fields committed before UGA came calling and he decided to stay home.
You can shit on Franklin about a ton of things... The recruiting angle is flimsy and half baked at best.
When your team is getting pooped on by way lesser programs, recruiting should absolutely be called into question. If not, then your coaching staff sucks.
I'm not one to be giving Franklin a pass but recruiting to compete in the CFB Playoffs isn't where it needs to be. Recruiting to beat Indiana, Maryland and the likes we have lost to this year isn't a issue. I would point to the loss of Parsons (top 5 NFL Prospect) and Brown (top 50 NFL Prospect) who they expected to lean on this year ranks higher then recruiting under Franklin. I also would point to replacing the OC, OL, WR and DL coach on the staff and none of those guys getting a normal spring and fall to work with players as to why this team looks so off.
I would say that serious questions need to be asked about our defensive coaches starting with our DC and secondary coaches. To much talent to be giving up 30+ points for 5 weeks
Lose two players and suddenly 0-5 is excusable.
I'm not giving him a pass for being 0-5. I'm simply giving context to the conversation. I'm sure if they had Justin Fields at QB they wouldn't be 0-5 right now. I'm sure if they didn't lose Parsons, Brown, Cain and Pat they wouldn't be 0-5. I'm sure if they coaches actually had time to work with the offense they wouldn't be 0-5. Under a normal season I would expect PSU to be 4-1 right now. Hell even with all those things happening I would expect PSU to be no worse than 3-2 right now. Being 0-5 and having the fan base wanting Franklin gone is because being 0-5 even with all those issues isn't acceptable
I've always thought it was stupid that Harbaugh got so much shit for not winning big games, but no one ever said a word about Franklin. Franklin, in many ways, is Harbaugh with a better bowl record, better media relationships, and a B1G title that came in a year where it finished with the same number of losses as UM and got eviscerated in Ann Arbor.
That said, it's fucking stupid to think Franklin is or should be on the hot seat because he has an atrocious team in a season that was delayed almost 2 months due to a pandemic. People need to stop being dumb.
Franklin raised the expectations for this program. Being ranked so high going into this season did nothing to change those expectations. With that said I think most fans don't think he will be fired. But would hope he takes this lost season and learns from it. I personally would like him to make some changes to the defensive staff and I would hope he's active in the transfer portal for a QB because Clifford or anyone on this current roster is getting this program where Franklin is selling.
Franklin caught an inside straight and won the B1G in 2016. That’s the main difference. But yeah, he gets a pretty favorable edit considering he’s below .500 against OSU, Michigan and MSU. That said, both Harbs and Franks deserve shit right now.
Parsons doesn’t play QB WR OL or all 11 positions on defense.
One could argue that Franklin under performed with that 2016 and 2017 team. A lot of players on those rosters are now in the NFL. Godwin, Gesicki, Barkley, Hamilton, Sanders just on the offense alone.
He doesn't play any position for the team. He's currently training to be a top 10 pick in the NFL.
not even the shittiest coach with the initials JF, you peasants.
He wasn't wrong there. They have certainly been pretty special so far.
I’ve never seen a coach get so much credit for offering a scholarship to a qb that never played for him like I have with Franklin in this thread with Justin Fields.
He always did have an eye for those diamond in the rough prospects
someone said all the QBs Franklin recruits suck. Fields was a response. I’m not too big into recruiting anymore but I think PSU was on him early and had him committed.
not sure why that’s weird to mention when the subject was the QBs Franklin chooses to recruit.
His ability to skate through scandals is unreal.
I would assume when someone says that all his qb recruits suck that the person is talking about players he actually signed and not literally every kid he ever recruited.
it’s only a two page thread...
Its almost embarrassing you have to explain this.
lol it’s embarrassing you guys are creating an argument out of thin air. read the post I just quoted.
and nobody is saying Franklin doesn’t have a huge problem with QBs. PSU fans have been saying it for a while.
Fields was just a response to one stupid, specific post.
Everyone else got it.
Everyone else ITT understood the post.
the post that explicitly said QBs he’s offered?
Yes. Not every QB he’s given an offer to; the terrible QBs playing for him that he offered. mp_22 is a marginally literate moron, but even he wouldn’t claim that every single QB given an offer and not signed sucked.
We got people going full straw man just to dunk on Franklin. Guys... about a dozen topics you can choose that can accomplish the same goal without you looking like fools.
And for the record outside of Fields and maybe 3 or 4 other “offers” his argument isn’t way off from being accurate. PSU has struggled to identify, recruit and develop QBs under Franklin. Nobody would really argue against the lack out productivity from the position. I’ve been very vocal about going to the portal for a QB this offseason. Franklin himself hired a new OC/QB coach to help with this exact issue.
Nah he won’t be fired
penn st and michigan should simply swap coaches
We do have good milk at the Creamery.
He’s also got the #1 offense in the country rn so maybe he was actually decent.
A "c swap"?
You guys offered a guy whose own father deemed wasn’t worthy of a scholarship. That’s bad.
yeah maybe. I mean I am not saying he isnt a good offensive coordinator.
i love this "he offered good players" argument so much
its true of basically every coach in the country for all position groups
