Thanks to LKRFN88jp I'm in the middle of The Revolution was Televised. I'll start this when I finish that. Looking forward to it.
I think so... I know I have it and most of the stuff I have came from that library, so logic would dictate it is. If not, drop me a PM.
Just knocked off the first Chapter. I dont really have any comments except that I just spent about 15 minutes trying to find where this town in Missouri is. I think its fake, but it sounds a lot like Hannibal,Mo which is where Mark Twain is from. Also, I had numerous baseball tournaments in small Missouri towns on the Mississippi River - so Im nostalgia-ing hard visualizing this town. Also - Big fan of first person books. Even though Shadow of the Wind was first person, Ive read two books since then, so reading a first person book is a nice change of pace.
Second Chapter - Amy Jan 8 2005 Spoiler A - I fucking nailed the Hannibal thing :kipfistpump: B - Holy fucking shit, if all the parts of her diary are this annoying... yikes. I know she is supposed to be but fuck. C - I didnt mention this in my last post, but I always find it interesting when authors write in the first person as members of the opposite sex. I always kind of keep that in my back of my head when reading stuff like that, as I will with Nick parts. I like the short quick hitting chapters so far.
Decided to put The Twelve aside so I can read this first and I'll just restart The Twelve after. If Louisville scores one more time, I'm gonna start then. If not I'll start when the game is over.
Spoiler Two in and liking it so far. Amy is definitely a bitch, but the writing has a charm and I imagine her as quite the attractive female, so I still enjoyed reading it. The difference in style from his to hers was nuts, well done by the author to have such a distinctive voice in each. Good start to the book.
Through Nick Dunne : The Night Of Spoiler So Nick is a pretty big pussy. Neither of our main characters are all that likable so far. However, the sister Margo is hilarious imo. These lies he speaks of will probably fuck him over somehow. Just wondering if he did it or not. Im thinking not due to the fact he is a pussy - but it's early, so who knows.
Spoiler Yeah neither character is someone I'd want to be friends with but the story has me all in right now. Probably going to read one or two more chapters and call it a night. Agree on his sister, the "here's your wood" joke killed me.
Through (the 2nd) Nick Dunne: One Day Gone Spoiler da fuck is Nick calling and why does he have a disposable. Hasnt he seen the wire and know those arent 100% safe? I should have gone to bed a while ago, but cant put this book down.
I laid down last night on the couch to start this. Mind you, I had slept 2-3 hours after working graveyard shift and was running on fumes at this point, I didn't realize how tired I was. I read, "My wife's head is awesome," and started falling asleep. Seriously, I didn't make it past page one and I was out (which is more of an indictment on my sleeping habits than this book). Will probably start in earnest today.
The thought of someone laying on a couch and reading "my wife's head is awesome" and falling asleep makes me laugh really hard for some reason.
Also, read to the first Amy chapter of 2010, so I think three more after my post last night Spoiler For the first time in the book I actually felt bad for Amy. Even though you could tell she was trying to piss Nick off, just sucked the way everything unfolded on their anniversary. It's been really interesting getting her POV over the last few years. She was obviously head over heals for him in the beginning, and while she still loves him things have definitely gotten worse between the two. The last Nick chapter I read was really interesting, as he went in front of the media/got picked apart by his in-laws as well. The thing where he mentioned the smile he had at the end was really good writing, and I imagine that'll be picked apart quite a bit over the coming chapters. I'm really enjoying this book. The writing is so damn good and the difference in the "voice" of each POV is what I'm really liking so far. Can't wait to see what happens.
Hadn't been to the book club board in a while. Glad it has all come together. Stopped by to look at what y'all were reading and decided to pick up this one. Just finished it. Only took two days
Just knocked off another chunk during lunch. In the last few days, between watching "This is 40" and the first ~ 25% of this book, I am terrified of marriage
Through Abby Elliott Dunne Aug 17 2011 Spoiler - Definitely Team Amy now. Now not only is Nick a pussy, he is shitty and cheating on her too. - LOL at the "Nancy Grace" character. The author got her down to a T - double LOL at Margo's "If I had a dick, I would fuck this peanut butter" Need more dick jokes from Margo pls - glad we found out about the disposable phone. I was starting to get annoyed about the teases. Good on Flynn. I thought she revealed it at the perfect time and for not dragging it out forever. Really enjoying this book so far. Im trying to take advantage of a slow work week and knock out a good portion.
Finished Part 1 Spoiler Wow. I keep on bouncing back and forth between thinking Nick is guilty and that he isnt. I was going to call it a night, but I need to find out if Amy is in the woodshed. This book is awesome.
Read through October of 2010 (30% in). Going to bed but will post my thoughts tomorrow. Continue to love this book as well.
Alright, so through that above portion Spoiler I feel like Brad Pitt in Se7en wanting to know who's calling on the burner. "WHO'S ON THE FUCKING PHONE?!?!?!" Dammit that's obviously going to be huge, really wish he'd just pick the damn thing up. And it's pretty sad that all this shit is happening to this couple as Nick realizes the relationship is pretty much done. Can't believe I'm defending the wife so much, but she does seem like she has good intentions. The "Blue Book Boys" will never not make me laugh and I kind of want a spin off book just for them where they run around causing shenanigans and making people angry. That stuff at the mall was kinda meh up until the chapter ended and one of the guys recognized Amy. That was the last Nick chapter I read so I'm all Can't wait to see where it goes. Also, was wondering how they had lost so much of their money, especially when Amy gave the figure in one of her chapters. Right when the parents sat down I knew things were bad. But $650k bad? Gaddam. Finally, all these small lies that Nick keeps telling have me wondering wtf is going on. I know he's mentioned he has no emotion in the past (because of his dad), but his lack of feeling anything about Amy being gone is just fucking strange to me. And there's little things he drops throughout where I'm all "wat?" Just weird. Like I said last night, I continue to really love this book. With the playoffs this weekend, I can't imagine I'll read as much until Sunday night, but hoping to knock out a large chunk then.
ENDING Spoiler what a great book and what a shitty ending. Maybe setting up a sequel of some sort? I so wanted Nick to get back with Andie and get all rich with a book deal and bang her on the wings of his albatross while bone fishing in the flats
To this point Spoiler Nick is acting/thinking quite suspiciously. I know you've read farther than this now so don't say anything but I think Flynn wants us to think Nick may have something to do with it, which makes me think he doesn't. We'll see Really enjoying it. Can't wait to get home and read more.
Spoiler I know that feel bro. As im reading I picked up on the subtle, but not that subtle hints that Nick may have somethign to do with it, which makes me think that he probably didnt. When I was reading those parts, I was having that debate in my head, going back and forth that I completely wasnt paying attention to what I was reading and had to go back and re-read a few pages. I do that all the time - daydream about stuff while Im reading then have to go back. ANNOYING! - anyway, yeah awesome book so far, and it gets even better imo
Through the 1st Amy Elliot Dunne: 9 Days Gone Spoiler -This is a really well constructed story. I really like how Flynn made out all the "crazies" in Amy's life (staker, HS BF, Rapist) belivable storys, then tell what really happened. Great twist. -I like how Nick turn the tables on Amy's little game with the interview with the Asian girl in the bar. Probably not the smartest move ever, but as of right now, it seems to have fucked with Amy's head at the very least -Ha-ha Amy! You got robbed you dumb cunt. That is all.
Through Amy Elliott Dunne 11 Days Gone Spoiler EL OH Fucking EL. Dis bitchbitchbitch is crazy. Only a woman could think - yea I framed him for murder but let's just forget about that and rekindle. I hope she dies.
Nick Dunne 14 Days Gone Spoiler A - this book is fucking great. I just wish it had more Margo. B - I really hope Nick doesn't kill Amy so he can piss on her in prison so he wins. C- Flynn does a really good job of making you sympathize with shitty people (nick)
Finished the Book Spoiler I want to fucking break things. What a fucking shit ending. Fuck you Nick you fucking pussy. Fuck you Author. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. I honestly dont know if Ive ever read a book that I enjoyed so much, then just shit the bed. I just finished and should probably let it soak in. IM sure Ill add more tomorrow. But these are my immediate thoughts/reactions. After sleeping on it: Still pretty annoyed by the ending. Just pissed off. I guess if Im that enraged over the ended, that makes it a pretty good book. Fuck those two anyway... they deserve each other. She is a psycho and he is a pussy. Also, this book is example #1 why you should never cheat.
This is where I stopped this evening Spoiler Ageee completely. Idk why I was surprised, but the cheating caught me off guard a bit. Dammit Nick. Really pissed off that he's been pulling that shit for so long. Happy his sister is as frustrated about it as she is. Definitely explains (one of the many reasons I'm sure we're to learn) why he hasn't really cared about what's happened. TV special sounded terrible, gaddam. Just wait until they find out he's cheating. I can't imagine public perception is with him at all right now, and the police have seemed suspicious from the start. Really interested in how they handle him moving forward. Was really bummed reading the Amy chapter after learning about him cheating. She knows he's lying, but not what about, but takes it. Really shitty situation. Heading out of town tomorrow around 1:00, so hoping to read some more before I leave, perhaps finish part 1. Book keeps getting better and better.
Through this plus three paragraphs in the very next chapter Spoiler HOLY FUCK. Was going to keep reading, but I had to get itt and throw in my two cents about this. She was planning this?!?! Gaddam. This is not the turn I expected at all. Interested to hear her side of things. Nick is so fucked. As far as the other stuff I read, sucks he had to hire the jackass lawyer, but it seems that if anyone can pull it off, he can. His sister was so true with her comment on him lying. Stupid ass little lies continue to grow and are fucking him. There are a ton of other things I wanna say but I gotta get back to reading this. What a bombshell.
Through one chapter past this Spoiler Nick is pissing me off and Amy is coming off being the sympathetic one. I know I know nothing at this point though. And yes who the fuck is calling Nick. Fucking cliffhanger when they're right outside the door.
Also, read to ~70% this morning earlier. Planning on finishing tomorrow night after the Seattle/Washington game.
Spoiler watching stupid ASOIAF noobs guess stuff now has me always adding the disclaimer I know nothing. I did just find out about mistress Andie
I have read exactly this far Spoiler sneaky bitch, sounds like the whole diary was a set up too. And we're back to the thing we all know... bitches be crazy
Amy Elliott Dunne: July 21, 2011 Page 168 / 444 according to my Nook. Spoiler Just found out Nick has a hot, young girlfriend. His sister just figured it out and called him a fucking idiot. I like how your opinion of the players changes. At first, it was obvious Amy was a bitch. But she really isn't. Hell, she seems like she'd be a great wife. But Nick really is an asshole. But he's so angry, so upset by everything, it's hard for him not to be. The book really is depressing, a glimpse inside real people and the absolute shit we find ourselves in. The time we realize we are in over our head and there is no easy way out. But not the, "The world as we know it will end! The Dark Lord will sweep us all away of I don't destroy his magical talisman!" kind of shit. The, "I'm married and no longer love my wife... but she's sacrificed a lot and I can't just end it," kind of shit. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I empathize with Nick more than I should, but I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the story.
Just finished. Spoiler What a fucking book. While the ending absolutely infuriated me (because of what it meant for Nick (and I guess Amy as well)), it was perfect for these two people. What a fucking kick in the nuts for Nick. God dammit. Was getting so excited, thought he was gonna be able to put her behind bars, especially after he found the vomit. But nope, she impregnated herself. God dammit. Honestly, this book was money and drug for like two or three chapters (the Amy Ozarks chapters). I was engrossed the other 98% of the time. The psycho that was Amy was incredible. Such a fucked up character, but the author wrote her PERFECTLY. Wow. Continue to love the book club, because I would have never read this one without it. Now I want to download the other two books this author had because (a) it was a hell of a story and (b) her writing is so tight/crisp. Big fan. Thanks to whoever recommended this one.
Still from the first Amy Elliott Dunne: The Day Of Spoiler loved the line "I ruined my Mother's womb in the process... My own prenatal Sherman's March"
Through the 2nd Nick Dunne 7 Days Gone Spoiler welp now he has one psycho trying to frame him for murder and just let another loose cannon crazy bitch run out the door after dumping Andie. Nick's life is shit right now.
