You can hire the next 20 coaches from us. It isn't going to matter. Youre Texas A&M so they will all be failures after they get to College Station.
lechnerd I appreciate your pro-Trump and pissing off FSU fans troll game. I'm actually Team Lechnerd in this thread solely because FSU fans continue to respond like you're going to "ohhh okay."
i think Jimbo is gonna have similar early success at a&m like he did fsu (though likely not a mnc). he'll get them turned around and playing well on offense and elko will have the d coached up. he's shown he can turn a program around and take them to the top, but he's also shown he can't sustain it and will take a top 3 team preseason to a 5-6 record.
For the life of me I will never understand why detractors cite Jimbo’s last season at Florida State as the sole example of his coaching inability. Never mind his stellar seven year record prior where he averaged in excess of 10 wins per season, won one national championship and three conference championships. This is classic confirmation bias. You pick the one season that fits your narrative and ignore the rest the facts. Perhaps, it’s more plausible that Jimbo is an elite coach and recruiter as evidenced by his first seven seasons at Florida State and, his last season is easily explained by the fact that he already had 1 foot out the door. Does anyone really believe that the Jimbo to Texas A&M occurred in the final few weeks of the season alone? It’s been well documented that our athletic director and Fisher are good friends who have known each other for a long time. It’s also a well-known fact that our athletic director put Kevin Sumlin on the hot seat before our season even began. That rarely rarely happens in college football. By announcing the coach is on the hot seat before the season has even begun he’s automatically placing him im a difficult position and making his life very difficult from a coaching standpoint and especially a recruiting standpoint. You don’t do that unless you have a back up plan in place. Again I think Jimbo’s last season at Florida State is much better explained by his impending transfer to College Station as opposed to him forgetting how to coach all of the sudden. 2017 was clearly the anomaly where as the prior seven years were the rule. The nice thing is we are going to find out who is right over the next few years at A&M. One thing is for certain already, Jimbo clearly did not forget how to recruit.
To the extent this is a legitimate response. FSU fans are just citing the 2017 season. Prior to 2013, the team constantly under achieved. The team would win big games but lose 2+ games they had no business losing. Then 2013-2014 happened and it looked like Jimbo figured it out. However, as soon as Jameis and his team of NFL Pro Bowlers left those kind of losses started happening again. Like GT loss in 2015. We were GT's only ACC win that year. It continued to happen since then. 2016 the team had to sign I will try hard promise notes. 2017 everything just fell off the rails. Bad coaching, Jimbo giving up, having one foot out the door, Jimbo no enforcing rules, ect. Just a train wreck. Jimbo will motivate the shit out of your team for big games. However, he still has not figured out how to get the team ready to play those shitty games all season long. Early on in his career, he used crap games as a way to "work on things." However, he did not build a huge lead then work on it. He did it all game long. Running the ball well? We're going to pass 50 times to work on short routes. Then it's a close game in the 4th and Jimbo would freak out. A&M will be fine if Jimbo learned from what he did not do well at FSU. I don't know if he has learned but having a non-shit DC just because he's your buddy should help.
It's more of a tale of two Jimbos. 2010-2014 the results were great. Turned the program around completely and built one of the best teams in modern football in 2013 and then made it to the playoff in 2014 (although you can say that team underachieved with the talent they had). Then things changed. 2015 was a transition year and didn't look bad on paper at 10-3. But you lose a close one to clemson who played for the natty which was fine, but then to lose to 3-9 gatech (we were their only conference win), and then a group of 5 team in the bowl game. Next is 2016, another 10 win season. Lose to the champ again Clemson, which is fine. But you get the ever-loving shit kicked out of you by louisville, and take an L to an overmatched unc too. You salvage the season by running through the soft teams left on your schedule and beat michigan in the bowl to get to 10 wins. This team definitely underachieved in 2016 granted they had some injuries. Then the complete disaster of 2017 when he lost the players and quit on the program in general post-bama, and made up his mind he wanted to go to atm by the end of september. Then the coaching hires and player development issue. Again, 2010-2014, he was fantastic. Assembled a really good staff, and developed lots of players that set national records in college, and in draft picks over a 3 year span. On paper, his classes looked great, but development fell off. Other than Jalen, Dalvin, and Derwin, the majority of those 4 and 5-star studs never really developed here. Then take a look at the coaching staff. No one was really trying to come hire away anyone from our staff for promotions like in previous years. And by the end, only a couple made lateral moves as most everyone else took a demotion or is no longer coaching. I think Jimbo will do well at atm. He finally has all the money he said he needed to have to win. For as much as atm fans say fsu fans are jaded and only focus on one bad year, I think atm fans fail to see the downward trend Jimbo had the program on by the end going from dominating the conference to just above .500 when he had the talent advantage in every single game fsu played in the acc (and most games overall).
He quit caring at the end of the '14 season Right after getting shitstuffed by Oregon, capping a year that began with him losing his weiner cousin/DC and ended with homemade amcam of his queen and a trusted friend(s) Last year can be explained by multiple years of just going through the motions.... Maybe change of scenery is just what he needs
Good posts. I have genuine concerns about our offense. Our new OC from Memphis, I’m not sold on him. I don’t think he was the mastermind behind their great offenses. Additionally we have had trouble recruiting a QB this cycle which is telling. Defense I feel the exact opposite about. Elko is a beast of a coach and completely transformed ND in a very short time. Additionally he looks to be an elite recruiter as well. We have Clemson and Bama in our first 4 games of the season and I expect there to be a lot of panic early on but things will taper off and for once I think our FB team will show improvement later in the season. Is it possible Jimbo is going to mail it in at A&M now that he has the $75 million guaranteed? Anything is possible but the guy is hitting the recruiting trail like his life depends on it. And the fruits of recruiting labor don’t appear for at least a couple of years down the road. Why kill yourself on that front if you’re not planning on being all in down the road?
Your OC doesn't matter much. Jimbo calls the plays and is going to do what he wants to do. One complaint our players had was that the OC had a large role in developing a game plan. They would start with it and out of nowhere Jimbo abandons the strategy they worked on all week and starts doing the opposite. Defense you'll be fine. Jimbo always had good defenses for the most part. He's going to improve your program. I doubt you get the pissed at life cucked Jimbo but I don't think Jimbo has 2013 in him any longer. I expect you'll be a 8-4/9-3 type team with a top end of 10-2 if Jimbo gets back to form.
Don't think either of those things is true. Not single and the fire queen extorted a bunch of money from them is happily moving to College Station. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/co...ill-reside-college-station-will-ex-wife-candi
im sure it’s been mentioned but jimbos win count and recruiting benefited greatly from um and uf being down in coaching and results. before clemson took football by storm the conference was also pretty weak. texas may be harder to lock down and we know it neans more in the sec.
Texas has been down for a decade and will be down longer the big competition will be OOS like OU/LSU/Bama and we've already beaten most of those guys head to head in recruiting so far :)
i know ut isn’t doing much but the locking down the state as far as top recruits seems more difficult than what he faced in florida
texas is much more central to the rest of the country. until recently we havent recruited the west coast well because distance is often a big factor
We had the #3 class last year and have a very decent shot at a top 10 class this year. Jimbo's recruiting well right now but lets pump the brakes on the delusional aggie talk.
yalls last couple seasons have not been great, hence not doing much. not tring to argue whos winning recruiting championships. ill go back to looking at funny videos and boobs.
Now that you mention it this does seem eerily similar to when Jimbo took over at FSU and Texas might be easier to recruit for Jimbo right now than Florida was, he just has to be pre 2014 Jimbo and you're set. This is in respects to recruiting
Feel like Jimbo is the offensive version of Tuberville. Wins big games but always drops a few he shouldn't.
There is a lot of truth to it. He will always have them ready for big games. And you'll always feel really good about your chances in those games. The problem is when he blows off shitty teams and uses those games as an extended practice instead of taking them seriously. The players eventually pick up on it and get to where they blow off those types of games too and they end up either being total shit shows or way closer than they should be.
