They certainly did at QB thanks to Jimbo’s horrendous recruiting and decision making at the position.
Jimbo was a great QB recruiter and developer until after Jameis. After Jameis his success at the position was pretty bad.
Take away Jimbo’s best recruits, his best seasons and his national championship and Jimbo was actually pretty shitty.
I think that’s part of it. I try to put myself in Jimbo’s shoes. He put together possibly the best offense in cfb history, with a QB who was the perfect Jimbo QB. Think of it as a drug on which he got high. Nothing less than Jameis would do after that. So, he took chances on kids who showed glimpses of the talent, even when there were character red flags.

Yeah its a real shame when you mismanage a situation so bad that you have to have a guy come back out and play on a broken leg because your backup is that bad. And you let your other shitty QB who started games for you that season become academically ineligible. Which brings up another point; if Texas A&M doesnt have anyone that does nothing but worry about the team APR they better hire somebody. Because Jimbo doesn't bother himself with staying on top of that.

Ponder definitely seemed to max his potential, but his 1st big guy at QB that he recruited to FSU was EJ....who was as soft and terrible his entire career Then he signs Booty But after that he signs ASS
Ej Manuel was #14 nationally in passer rating his SR yr and #18 his JR year. Top 10 both years in YPA.
Re: EJ Most Fsu fans were excited for him after he came in for ponder but curbed our enthusiasm as his career progressed. Look at threads from the end of his career and you'll see the same disregard for him. Also go to any draft thread and we were laughing at him being a first rounder. Jimbo got more outta ponder than ej
I was always on record as liking EJ. He never came close to his ceiling, but I don't fault jimbo for that. The tmb hate for him was unreasonable imo
EJ’s style changed when he became the starter following Ponder’s graduation. He cut way back in his running if I recall correctly. Many feel D Craig was in his ear to avoid the black QB stereotype by passing more. After a while EJ tunes out Jimbo for the most part as Jimbo was in his face after every play. EJ wasn’t the type who could handle continuous criticism. Ponder and Winston learned to laugh off most of Jimbo’s shit, but were able to maximize the good parts of Jimbo’s tutoring.
