Did I ever say that’s a negative douchefuck? Go jerk off to Chaplin’s hitler mustache while he sucks Messi’s dick fucktard.
Wow. All right. And first and foremost, that was Chaplin’s mustache; The Tramp’s mustache. The Tramp’s imagery far preceded that of Hitler’s. But speaking of; Chaplin was towards the top of Hitler’s die list, given that my dude came out with The Great Dictator (which predates America’s WWII involvement), and in every sense of the term, eviscerated him. I’ve written essays pertaining to this relationship. And this was the first time my dude spoke on film: Stick to watching Iron Man and Endgame. Evidently there wasn’t enough CGI, so it was “a very slow burn”
I’m also bummed out by the fact that every fucking asshole thinks that slapping Zimmer’s shit onto that speech is okay. Chaplin composed his own music. This is not Inception. And since I’m on the subject, fuck Christopher Nolan and anyone that thinks he’s a genius. Out.
Saw it this morning... I THINK I liked it. I mean, Phoenix's performance was amazing. As in, guaranteed Oscar nom, if not eventual winner. And there were at least 3 or 4 scenes that truly delivered - those that have seen it know the ones. But the pacing wasn't great - there were parts that dragged. A lot. And jesus it was dark. Still an easy 8, but it wouldn't have taken much to turn this into an all-time classic.
I'm willing to sacrifice some things if it gives me permission to continue watching and enjoying (a great deal) Christopher Nolan flicks.
I actually passed out drinking earlier and now I’m going through my random morning wake up/water/piss. Piss turned into a poop, poop turned into a tmb. Might be up for the long haul now but I hope not
I just don’t think he’s all that special. I watch what he does. As I will with Tarantino and the Coens.
For the record, I've always enjoyed your passion for filmmaking and appreciate your strong views when you share them.
I get a bit irate when someone tries to drag a person that wrote, directed, acted, composed, and produced their own shit. Even doing one of those things is absurdly difficult.
Because it’s 3:00 and I have to cape for the god of film. Duhhhh. I’m on the record multiple times that marvel/dc is defeating the medium, but Joaquin’s performance is something to behold.
My best guess: Oscars — Phoenix gets best actor nom, doesn’t win Best production design nom Best adapted screenplay nom I doubt it wins an Oscar, but to get noms is pretty big — especially for a comic movie.
Spoiler pretty sure they have said this was a stand alone movie and isn't considered part of that timeline
Same reason they shouldn't have released IT with all the Epstein stuff going on. Hollywood is just irresponsible. I also can't wait to see the damage Hustlers does to underemployment rate among recent high school grads.
Got out the theater about an hour ago. Spoiler I went into the movie thinking Logan and it's just deeper and darker than that. It's a wild roller coaster of emotion. Feeling sympathy for his years of abuse and neglect from a mother herself suffering from mental health. Going to through the stages insanity to the point he snaps. All Shitty AMC Show scenes hit home and had huge impact. You could've called this Arthur and never felt it had anything to do with a comic book. The last 45-60 minutes was excellent. The beginning did drag but I understand the groundwork they wanted to lay down for essentially a origin story. I like that we don't know if he ends up killing the neighbor or not. Based on his thought process when he allowed the little person who was nice to him leave I would imagine based on his delusions of happiness with her that ultimately he let her and the kid live. But idk and I love that is how its left.
Spoiler loved seeing the evolution of his mental illness mixed with the elements of the origin of Batman and Joker. There was a fine line between justifying the actions of Arthur and condemning them. That aspect was well measured. The scene where he accepted who he was and gained confidence in himself was just great. Vindicated in his mind. Would have liked more of the disenfranchised society with Mr Wayne setting a tone and society splitting in two....that's an auto best picture nomination based on the current political climate. And another guy like the little person.
This movie was not good. Phoenix’s performance was great...but that’s not the Joker. You could make this movie without even calling it Joker
Spoiler Yeah I thought the movie itself was good and Phoenix is obviously amazing, but that pathetic person turning into the diabolical Joker who meticulously plans chaos is kind of a stretch. All of the violence Arthur inspired was purely by accident and it seems like even his murders were spur of the moment (since his intention was to kill himself on the talk show). I just don’t see Arthur evolving into the joker from Batman lore. I really liked the movie though.
Joker shattered the record for sales in an opening weekend... Surpassing Venom from last year.. Article with the story linked below for those interested.. https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/10/06/box-office-joker-box-office-opening-weekend-dc?sf110232789=1
How many politicians do you know suggested you not see this movie? And even if they did, what reason did they have? How do you personally see this as a win which you are portraying?
Not a win for me.. A win for the movie, that all the issues brought up about the violence of the film etc.. didn't prevent people from going to see it. and setting records... That's all I meant.
If this is truly what you meant without any type of subtext which in this day and age I doubt then fine. Anytime i see someone say something about 'defying critics, politicians' it is usually some alt right point against the 'lib media'. I saw the movie and thought it was good though redundant because it basically was remaking movies already done before with Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. It did not shy away from this comparison at all casting Robert De Niro who was the star of each. Phoenix raised it to a another level with his performance. He was fantastic as always.
