you're not moving Rogan or his listeners by being a facts guy or debating him I can't watch for the cringe, but he recently sat down with Christian Walker of all people (along with Felix from Chapo) and apparently was the opposite of a spaz according to the few comments I skimmed over. Hard to put into words how wrong I feel you are about the likes of Kandor accomplishing anything by going on Rogan vs Hasan, but also harder to express how little i care to parse it out lol
Seder would get absolutely bored with hand holding Rogan and it would be very enjoyable to watch. He does such a great job with sticking to basic principles.
this has seemingly been the consensus amongst people who picked up on Rogan once the medium blew up which is why I'm being annoying as someone who was a member on his forum and listened to him on JustinTV to remind everyone that he was one of the first listeners of Alex Jones and had a conspiracy subforum on his forum. He very much believes in dumb guy conspiracy stuff
That said, I agree with others that going in his show is a fruitless endeavor. I applaud bernie for trying.
I’m talking politically. Things he cares about are sjws/cancel culture/drug legalization/bro science/conspiracy thought. And he’s even changed his own conspiracy beliefs over time. On several big issues. He very much has the propensity for conspiracy thought but sort of tried to be more objective once he started having actual smart people tell him why he’s wrong (NDT and the moon landing, for instance).
I use to feel the same way. However, Rogan is already legitimized. His grifter guests are already legitimized by him. I dont think having people on who challenge those harmful narratives would do more harm, or add much more legitimacy than they already do. Imo the rewards outweigh the risks, even if just marginally All that said - I dont feel super strong one way or another on this. Not a hill Id pick to die on
Yeah me either. I think you're right, damage is done. The other reason it doesn't matter is JR didn't get to 11m listeners on a medium like spotify by playing host to qualified academic voices speaking about the consensus opinions of their field. He knows how his bread is buttered
I wish I could find the clip of Duncan Trussell telling Rogan to be careful with who he has on and pointing out Ben S. and Joe responding by saying he is a good guy and he gives him hugs everytime he sees him. Rogan wasn't even comprehending that Trussell was trying to help him out.
Above all else he's just anti anti establishment contrarian. Just for the sake of being a contrarian. Something most rational people grow out of by their early 20s. Most of the people I listed, except for Kander, are pretty anti establishment. Except its for principled reasons, not just to be a persecuted edge lord. Perhaps Im being too naive, but over time, I could see some of that getting through and resonating w Rogan/ his audience. As I said - it cant hurt. His microphone is unfortunately huge.
He’s my friend and is nice to me is a really common thing he says about terrible people. Like a child who doesn’t understand that he’s playing with dynamite or fire.
Didn't he literally tweet that he was wrong and was happy that if he was going to be called out in public that it was that person because he likes that person?
No. Did we watch the same video? Or do you have a loose grasp of what contrition is? I heard him say shit like "I don't even know what I could do better," "sorry this is happening to you, Spotify" and "hey here a really boring story loosely related to Neil Young"
He just tweeted a link to his video. He hasn't admitted to being wrong about anything. In fact, in the video he tried to rationalize what he does.
Not seeing one. If it's buried somewhere in the thousands of replies, that sounds about on par with his concept of accountability
https://sports.yahoo.com/joe-rogan-admits-broadcaster-josh-082734705.html “If anyone was going to make me look dumb on the podcast I’m glad it’s Josh Zepps,” Rogan tweeted after the episode aired, “because I love him, and he’s awesome.”
Lmao at some of you. "Poor Joe would love to have more leftists on his giant podcast with enormous reach, but only the chuds will go on! He's a victim really."
Well it sure looks like he meant it since the last retweet before his Spotify statement is pushing out the same myocarditis bullshit
Meh - I'm not even a Rogan fan so I'll end it there - have seen him twice do standup and was unimpressed. But enjoy him talking to other comedians that came up together.
Having on rational leftists does not balance out platforming reactionary conspiracy nuts. They're not opposite equals and the impact is still a net negative on society
He is who he is, so he could have a panel of Joe Biden, AOC and Stacey Abrams while promising to campaign for them and I still wouldn't give a shit. If you think listening to Joe Rogan will inform you anything relevant or meaningful in this world you're doing it wrong ...
Going forward, despite all his cowardly crying about "this pawdcast used to just be me and my frans," I don't think his ego will allow him to do any sort of retreat. Just gonna be a whole bunch more of this shit.
That he won't have on people in the more liberal or left wing space that fit all the criteria he used to platform and help create the right wing ecosystem? Seder is the most obvious one. Rogan is also the king of capitalizing on drama and "cancellation" but oddly didn't have Hasan on when he was getting nuked for his comments on Crenshaw or ever since even though he's by far the biggest voice in the online space. These things aren't coincidences and you have to be dim to think they are.
I was moreso asking of if there was someone that wanted to go on the show but was told no - but yea there's definitely a developed narrative there.
Both of those people among others have stated they'd love to go on. Hasan has hung out with him in the past and was a fan back in the day but assumes because he criticizes Rogan and his circle of right wing cast of characters that he'll never be invited.
Peter is good people (BR native. Dated his sister in HS.) and I know this is going to set his mentions on fire.
Be surprised if what he says personally is far off what he gets baited into talking about on his stream seemingly weekly
