It's amazing how little so many of them give a shit about anything other than getting re-elected.
The politicians that don’t focus solely on being re-elected don’t get re-elected. It’s a broken system.
the 9min clip was pretty damn strong
It's undoubtedly a broken system but you don't have to focus solely on reelection.
I would have Jon Stewart's baby if I could. But with the advances they are making in modern medicine these days, maybe I can.
It is a huge fuck up that this hasn't been unanimously passed as a standalone bill.
Lol of course Jim Jordan wasnt there
And yet so many do
They spend every minute raising money or trying to get themselves in the news cycle.
What a broken, fucked up place.
Every single lawmaker who decided that hearing wasn’t worth their time need to get their asses voted out of office. That shit is inexplicable.
I’m sure Swalwell had a huge campaign event that prevented him from going
LOL at Congress feeling ashamed of themselves .
that room was fucking empty.
Only people missing were the Republicans of the subcommittee. It's been 18 years and they're asking for pennies and it's still not unanimous support. Disgusting.
I hate to pour water on this fire but Jon wasn't addressing the entire House of Representatives, just a subcommittee.
Your absentees were
Armstrong, Kelly (R-NDAL)
Gohmert, Louie (R-TX01)
Jordan, Jim (R-OH4)
Reschenthaler, Guy (R-PA14)
Fuck Jordan and Gohmert
Haven't watched yet, but why is Jon Stewart testifying? Is he a fact witness? An expert on any matter relevant?
He’s been championing this cause for years.
he has been their voice for like ten+ years and after watching that im glad he is
Stewart should run for office
To be clear, diplomatic wants-to-get-shit-done Stewart can't call out the GOP for being the reprehensible pieces of shit that they are, and the root cause of the situation.
I believe the youths call that getting sonned.
"But if I don't how will I get reelected?"
Probably because none of them have enough charisma to carry themselves without tons of money
looks like the conservative twitter argument here is that the health problems are due to the building materials, so it's a NYC/NY problem.
actual post from orangebloods:
Conservatives will always find a reason to not help those in need
Right because the terrorists attacked New York because they hated New Yorkers for New York foreign policy and New York values. Makes sense.
Stewart’s “Al-Queda did not yell Death to Tribeca” line during this was one of his best on that particular argument.
I remember hurricane Harvey coming ashore in Texas and all the damage. Ya know that sounds like a Texas issue. Don't think the federal government should get involved. Also the border in Texas. Sounds like a Texas issue.
This isn't the first time. It's clearly a topic that's dear to him because I can recall no less than about 4 clips from him on the subject.
Glad he's getting an audience for his points. Love that guy.
False on the hurricanes. George Bush's hurricane machine made them a government issue.
That doesn't make any sense. Dear Leader says that asbestos is 100% safe and it's all just a conspiracy fabricated by the mafia.
Trump, in Art of the Comeback: “I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal. Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented."
You don’t have to, but I doubt many politicians who make it to the highest offices attack a problem without thinking whether it will help them get re-elected. The “right thing to do” isn’t first on their list (I imagine).
As a guy who grew up as a teen and young adult in the W Bush era, Stewart is like my cool TV uncle who I watched for news in an enjoyable, consumable way. His passion has always been his defining feature. He was also the first person to call out Fox News on a major platform.
What I am trying to say is, I love that man.
And now we tune into the TexAgs take on the subject:
Even if you believe that worm-brained “it happened in New York” argument, what does that have ANYTHING to do with those congressmen not even showing up to listen to these people’s stories?
A hopeful wish:
They don't vote in their district
Those troops were bombed by Syrians with weapons made in China while they were in Iraq. Why the fuck should I have to take care of their injuries?
God damn that makes me so fucking angry
No doubt. If someone else had to be responsible for being the face of this and he still had a tv platform, how he’d frame his feelings about this would be incredibly different.
Also, this is a point that all sort of dem presidential hopefuls should be talking up. Get in bed with Stewart, ride the youth movement, and get the "these are Americans we’re fighting for!" argument in your back pocket for the middle Americans that still (stupidly)think that's what the GOP is about.
Now you’re thinking like a politician.
Texas is a trash ass state filled with trash white people. Shouldn't be shocked on that OrangeBloods take.
i'm rubber you're glue
But I imagine if there’s a pot hole near their Whataburger they’ll light their local government up on facebook
Spicy take. Awfully bigoted of ya....
