That first movie is one of the tightest, best edited movies of its era, and definitely one of Spielberg's best put together films. Nothing that has followed in the franchise has compared.
It doesn't matter at this point. Jurassic World wasn't a great movie but came out at the right time and had enough cool stuff that it made almost $1.7B. Fallen Kingdom was bad and ridiculous and still made $1.3B. The people running the show here are just going to make spectacle movies that make no sense until people stop seeing them, which isn't any time soon.
My wife and I are taking off work early tomorrow and taking my 5 and 8 year old(they've seen all of the other ones and are dino freaks). They have no idea. We've been telling them not a chance they get to see it because it's too scary. My son's response , who is 5 was its not scary, I've see people get eaten plenty of times.
I mean I saw JP1 about 10 times in theaters at seven but I also wonder if that sort of desensitising is bad for us.
