they didn’t buy the land. they bought the mortgage. Aspira now sends their mortgage payments to a Royals affiliate. it could mean nothing and it could mean something. they could easily just sell it to another entity if they choose another site.
I have to assume you listened to ssj this morning with buster, it sounded a lot more like something than nothing but I personally don't care either way outside of my taxes potentially going up, there were land surveyors out here at the legends this morning on the west side of the race track, they are trying everything they can to push star bonds in the dotte
Just like Fesco a while back they have to say that if they want to keep their access. It’s the message they want Jeff City hearing.
It's opinion based but yes, in my eyes 119th and nall isnt exactly where I would envision a stadium going
It was actually really interesting, they had a guy from some publication in Johnson county that has been following all of this for a few years now and from what I got out of it was two things: the royals affiliate bought up the debt/mortgage of the aspiria campus at a discount, and they like the thought of having structures that can be used for parking already there but not completed. I had no idea the average to build a single stall in a parking complex is 10k plus. That's a shit load of money
I could see a stadium working there if they build up a entire new district ala the Battery in Atlanta. Would be convenient for all the corporate offices and HQ in Johnson county that I'm sure make up a big chunk of their premium ticket base. Would be sterile and kinda lame (kind of like how P&L kinda sucks) but I think it could work. Not my ideal spot but I see the logic there. All this is contingent on if they can ever finish 69 and figure out how to better manage traffic on that corridor of 435 which sucks anyway especially at that Metcalf-Nall/Roe stretch
lol I love our city, parking is definitely not our strong point. The rugby match a couple of weeks ago was a absolute shit show
I work in corporate woods, that area is so fucking dumb I literally will take k7 to college and go over that way if there's time just to avoid all of bullshit right now. I do think it will be awesome when the "Overland Park expressway" is done
Parking and getting into/out of downtown is fine. CPKC sucks because they were told the streetcar would be a free shuttle to rivermarket parking which clearly didn’t happen. In March we took the kid to the Comic-Con which had 40K+ on Saturday while the tournament was also that weekend and it was a breeze. The streetcar extension opening will make it even better.
I went to the rugby match and had absolutely no issues we have an obscene amount of parking downtown. like, too much
we usually use the shuttle from river market to CPKC which will be a lot better when it’s the streetcar, or when the bridge was closed we parked at Ballys. really not a problem in my like 15+ visits to the stadium
it’s also not anything close to relevant for a discussion about a stadium that wouldn’t be at the riverfront and presumably wouldn’t be intentionally built and advertised as a “low parking” stadium downtown has just like fuckloads of parking. saying it’s an issue is insane
The American’s expectation of having parking immediately outside any meeting place is exhausting. Every sporting venue doesn’t need miles of concrete when there are parking garages AND A RAIL LINE within a few hundred feet. Every Olive Garden and Target doesn’t need parking to fulfill the maximum capacity of each when neither is occurring simultaneously. Law firms and banks aren’t open when baseball games are being played; parking spaces can be shared. Closely related… It would be insanely cool if Kansas could take the lead on creating a high speed rail system in this country. California seems to be fucking this up for everyone but KC to Denver is prime for this investment and would be better than paying the Royals a new stadium.
Ugh. Still remember being excited reading the paper about Obama’s initial plan. I was salivating at that 4.5 hr trip to Chicago.
I’m just giving you shit. I parked in their lots once and haven’t ever done it again because the traffic pattern getting in sucks. They never intended to have that many parking spaces which is why they’re all gravel, eventually they’ll be more development if you go back just park at River Market and take the shuttle or park at Bally’s and walk under the highway, it’s much easier to get in and out of
Streetcar is studying an east-west route along 18th St in addition to the study for the one on 39th St
Parking downtown is not an issue. They really need to fix the routes in/out of the downtown loop though, even without a downtown stadium. The north loop of 70 is awful and 35 sucks ass when it's busy out.
Guys I never said parking downtown was a problem, I said parking AT the stadium sucks, and it was the one and only time I've been there, I enjoy soccer at mercy because it's 5 minutes from my house. my bitch was the current parking situation AT kcpc park, which is currently just a big ass field until the garage is built. If it was free that's another story but 50 a pop for a field and then waiting two hours to get out was absurd, a train being on the tracks the whole time was also a major part of the problem. I'm old and complain about shit I didn't use to
How much trash and empty beer bottles and shit is laying around up there? Only been there a couple times but it was disgusting both times.
Surprisingly it was pretty clean, it's rained the last few days so the meth/homeless people probably have stayed away. Lots of shooter bottles tho
there is a proposal to remove the north loop and reconnect downtown to River market https://www.northloopneighbors.com/ it would designate 670 as 70 (which has plenty of capacity for east-west traffic) and then MODOT and the city could focus on improving the north-south routes around downtown it’s stupid to have downtown be an island surrounded by way too many freeways
Was at a busy McDonald's when it hit and it sounded like a war was starting with every phone going off. My kid was getting scared when we told him why they were going off Of course one customer looked slightly like the suspect (at least according to my 7 year old) so it was a bit funny to watch him squirm
Special alert for when a cop is shot and the suspect is at large I guess. Another special treatment for our special snowflakes.
I turned the news on over lunch and they said the shooting happened last night. The cops in the hospital and stable. Which makes the whole thing stranger.
Sounds like they found his car but not him, guessing that's why the alert went out. Also weird that MO sent out an alert at 8:45 but it was noon or whatever when I got it on the KS side.
Still think Chiefs go to Legends with a mega dome. Hunt wants a SoFi/Allegiant to show off to his billionaire buddies. It’s exciting to daydream what all they’ll develop around Washington Square. Aren’t the buildings north of the ice rink for sale as well? If they do go there Crown Center should shut down and do a major remodel/redesign while the stadiums being built.
I'm for pick a state already this shit (while important) is getting old, dream scenario is and always was downtown royals-northwest kc chiefs, I'd have to think the hunts are sick of renovating arrowhead at this point
