I used to live off 39th street and would walk to and from Ale House all the time late at night. Maybe I'm just older and less dumb now, but that seems like something people shouldn't do any more.

For a while they were setting up metal detectors to get in the area with cops on the perimeter but they just stopped doing that a while back for some reason.
I weirdly just talked to my bartender friend about this and apparently the same business owners in Westport who originally asked for that were the ones who killed it. people didn’t want to wait in line for long, especially when in was cold or rainy, so it was hurting profits.

Hotel was 73 a night compared to 150ish for the usual places I like to stay. Plus I have family down the road. Just played poker for 3 hours at harrahs.
Town Topic on Broadway downtown is a quinessential late night food spot, but I don't think it's worth a 30 min drive for you to get there. I'd second the Brew Top recommendation, not bad sports bar food.
