Of course he is. But my favorite kanye songs are when he spills his soul into the song. He was one of the first rappers not afraid to rap about his feelings. Songs like Spaceship.... I enjoy so much more because of what he is saying. His recent albums have lacked that. But that is just the evolution of his music and I understand. WTT was awesome, no doubt.
He does rap less about his feelings now, but I think overall he's a much better rapper now then in the College Dropout days. While I do miss the soulfulness of his older stuff, watching the progression his music has made in the last 8 years has been pretty awesome. I like that he almost makes a point to release songs that sound like "old Kanye." FWIW I think songs like Otis, The Joy, Good Friday, The Glory, and Devil in a New Dress (at least the first half before the guitar solo/Rick Ross verse) all sounds like they could have been back in the College Dropout/Late Registration Era Can't believe I forgot this earlier, but I think Good Morning is also very underrated
I had the intro to Be as my ringtone for the longest time. fucking sick beat. I could sit here and wish for him to put out something on the level of College Dropout again but that was lightning in a bottle and it's never going to happen. that was a once in a lifetime thing and that's probably how it should remain. he's evolved and moved on from where he was and who he was when he made that album. love his work on "Heart of the City"
Rape Ape mentioning the Be Intro reminded me of this classic performed on Chappelle's Show. Kanye's first on-air performance too http://www.mojvideo.com/video-commo...od-live-chappelle-s-show/b9f75d7cf924a227dfc9
That scarface beat might be my favorite beat ever it was my ringtone for a while, now its the NBA on NBC theme
Probably my favorite song to run to. Here's a version he performed on VH1's storytellers. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x93e0t_kanye-west-stronger-storytellers-pe_music
IMO Kanye's album's go: 1) College Dropout 2) Late Regestration 3) Graduation 4) My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy N/A 808's Top 3 being amazing, 4 being good (passable for Ye), and all other shit not counting Just my opinion though
oh and Good Life is the best on Graduation it goes Dropout>>MBDTF>>Late Reg/Grad>>808s i shit on 808s a lot but it's not Lasers level bad
i've said this in the canes thread, but all of the lights is a top 3 kanye beat of all time imo. i've never heard such brilliant opulence in a rap song.
looking at my itunes of top kanye songs 1. Good Life 2. We Don't Care 3. Everything I Am 4. Heard Em Say 5. Power 6. All of the Lights 7. this song on the mixtape of adele/jay-z/kanye mashups yall need to download that mixtape btw, made me really appreciate adele other than chunky girls singing it off key at bars
Rockin the iPhone but thanks anyway I needed a new ringtone and it's gonna be hard to beat the goat sports theme
it wasn't the lupe herbs are gonna come itt and flip the fuck out but i mean he rode the hype to lasers like it was going to be transcendent, and it came out after MBDTF and he had to step up and came out flat as fuck
clutch i'm not saying this to be a dick (well that's sort of a lie) but how old were you when college dropout came out? I was 14 I think
it was hometown glory for that but 'won't go' is great too they could have used jay-z's dear summer beat for a much better adele song though
i think that and we major might be tied if i had to choose: 1. All Falls Down 2. We Major 3. Family Business 4. Through the Wire 5. The Glory 6. Diamonds Remix Ft Jay Z 7. All of the Lights 8. Power 9. Slow Jamz 10. Touch the Sky (love the Mayfield sample)
yeah so i guess I was 15 then i can't really relate to music coming out until someone else says it I know Get Rich or Die Tryin was my freshman year of HS since the kid I carpooled with would play the album EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. I can't listen to Patiently Waiting without thinking I'm getting off I-4 and about to get to school
