I’m probably known in the hip hop thread for being hyperbolic and that’s fair.. I just can’t even listen to Mother I Sober without tears. I truly just can’t believe how perfect and beautiful that song is.
So without counting Overly Dedicated and S80, this man has dropped 4 studio albums that are at the very least all 9/10. At what point does he enter GOAT conversation?
I was a very, very casual fan. He's an artist. I'm converted. My bitch is that he didnt have the 'sound'. He blasted the sound, made it perfect, and used everyone else with a voice to make his point. He's a monumental voice of his generation
What’s wild is this is probably my least favorite project of his but I feel like an addict if I don’t go 3-4 hours without listening to it.
Hard to describe this album. One of the best ever made IMO, been through it maybe 8ish times. But it's not an easy listen. It's heavy, I almost feel tired after it. Will probably go though it a few more times with the lyrics pulled up and then I'm not sure how often I'll come back to it. I play TPAB every couple of months.
It’s a dense album. It’s like watching Schindler’s List or Come and See. Phenomenal, thought provoking art but it weighs on you and sticks with you.
I definitely see myself coming back to this project way less than I do with DAMN. and GKMC. Doesn’t make it any less of an album, just very dense and exhausting in a good way like others have said. TPAB is the same way. I only come back to that like 3-4 times a year.
Agreed with the above sentiments. This album is incredible but a really heavy listen. Outside of maybe N95, there really isn't much on this album that you can just vibe with without feeling the weight of the lyrics. GKMC and DAMN were packed with catchy tracks that I find super revisitable. TPAB is more in this vain.
Can firmly say I love the album after numerous deep dives. It's an ambitious adventure into his psyche - past, present and future. It'll be a controversial album for people when ranking his discography as there's a lot of unique sounds and songs that you either love or hate. A lot to unpack with most of them. Think it'll age well regardless. Also, I value Count Me Out more than most evidently. Don't see it as a mid level song.
Told a girl I’m talking to that Auntie Diaries was special, she was excited for Kendrick and the theme. I did not warn her about the F words. She was not thrilled. Whoops.
Damn is probably my least favorite Kendrick album (although DUCKWORTH might be my favorite song) but I listen to it the most. I listen to tracks from GKMC a ton (especially the BDKMV remix). This album is somewhere up there with GKMC and TPAB as my favorites but it’s gonna be like TPAB where I need to hear it and press play let it ride. It’s an entire listen. It’s not a track list type album. The more accessible songs on this album are my least favorite
If some of you guys are looking for similar vibes/emotions with more energy and haven’t given Melt My Eyes See Your Future by Denzel Curry a go I think you would all be pleasantly surprised. It is every bit as good as this Kendrick is
I think Auntie Diaries is an important song but I’m not gonna get upset with those who find it off putting. I think the inclusion of Kodak Black is intentional by Kendrick but I’m not gonna get upset with those who see it as a shit move. I don’t think gives a fuck how I feel or how anyone else feels about his decisions either. He moves how he moves. I honestly feel like he might welcome the loss of adoration that comes with this album.
I appreciate TPAB for what it is but I'm just not a huge fan of the neo-soul funky jazz vibe so I won't ever really enjoy it as much as the others. How much a dollar cost is one of my favorite songs ever though
This album is amazing and agreed its a whole album listen. To my untrained ear it seems to mirror the story telling in GKMC. Where as in that album he is going through some of the trials and tribulations of being a young black male in South Central…in Mr Morale is telling a story of evolution of love and all the hardships that come with it. Great album. N95 and Rich Spirit are bangers.
I’ve seen multiple accounts saying that his performance at Glastonbury was the best performance at that festival oat
He didnt do the Roe vs Wade message at the end, but it was pretty incredible. I saw a set list on twitter and looked like Big Steppers only, but he played stuff from mAAd city and TPAB
He did stuff from Damn as well I know. TBS tour looks like it’s got a lot more variety from what I’ve seen tho. He and Keem together on stage a lot as well
I really like Kendrick but Cole is my favorite current rapper. I don't understand how Kendrick took anything Cole said as an insult
It's been a back and forth for a long time. I enjoy music from both but I don't deep dive their lyrics so videos like this were helpful.
Cole is 1A to kendrick 1B for me I love the competition though even if Kendrick wrong for dissing the "Big 3" line
