I have 6-8 regular recipes. I’ll make 3-4 in large quantities over a weekend that lasts is a week. Then rotate every week. I’ll supplement with some chorizo, egg, and avocado tacos or a quick waffle w/ whipped cream when I don’t have anything or want to cook.
This is a beef madras I made while adding dikon raddish to serve like a potato. Over cauliflower mash with cilantro. With sour cream, cucumber, cilantro “raita”. Highly recommend using dikon in your soup or stew dishes where you would use potatoes. Also very good roasted. Don’t really do keto anymore. I’m still not eating bread/wheat, refined sugar, or drinking beer. Still eat a lot of keto friendly foods, but have cut back on the volume of cheese and fat. I’ve extended into some of the fringe keto vegetables more. Not worried about too many berries, carrots, tomatoes, etc and counting the carbs in them. Eating more beets, rutabagas, squashes, parsnips, peas, leeks, etc in moderation. Very occasional ancient grain. Trying to just focus on calories and variety. Working well so far.
You can find this in your chip aisle with the rest of the jar salsas and dips. Very good. I spread it on turkey wraps, eat with quesadillas, or dip with celery/pork rinds sometimes. It is really creamy. 14 total carbs in the jar. Here I used some of the Arnold Keto bread toasted. Added some sautéed tomatoes, spinach, shallot, and smoked oysters. Then topped with parm and fried eggs. Loved this. These are hearts of palm that I cut and seared like scallops and they were much better than I had anticipated.
I really liked them. They’re kind of neutral tasting, and slightly sweet on their own/right from the jar. But they will take up whatever seasoning/spice you want to add to them. These were just S&P but I’ve used cayenne and old bay as well. Searing them gives them a flakier/meatier texture. I don’t know that they taste “just like scallops” like you will see in some recipe articles, but a pretty good alternative and really easy.
I've really been into taking the carb balance tortillas, cutting them into 1/4, and then stuffing them in a greased muffin tin and filling them, putting them in a 350 degree oven for ~15 min. So far I've done 1. Buffalo Chicken 2. Taco 3. Philly Cheesesteak 4. Eggs and Ham Super easy weeknight supper.
I'm not being super strict but I've cut out most obvious carbs and sugar. For example, I had chicken breast with marinara sauce and cheese. I'm sure there was carbs in the sauce but it's better than eating a ton of pasta with it. I find it pretty easy because I eat mostly meat and cheese anyway. My question is, do you guys have any go to low carb/sugar desserts?
Cheesecake mix - Heavy cream whipped in mixer, add in cream cheese, keto sweetener and mix. Other flavorings like PB powder or coco as you like. There are some candies that give you major shits, but are low on net carbs. keto ice creams are probably getting better than they used to be. Low carb bread/tortillas prepared various ways with cinnamon and sweeteners. I have the idea for a cream cheese and fruit dessert pizza on a carb balance tortilla. I’m sure there’s other stuff
I love the Rebel ice cream pints. Salted caramel, cookie dough, mint chip, etc all have between 4-5 net carbs per pint.
Look for Rao's or another lower carb sauce. I now use Passata most of the time which is a tomato puree that has the seeds sieved out and basically nothing else added. I just season/spice it up myself when I want a marinara or pizza type sauce. Swerve has some cake mixes that are good. Keto and Co. brownie mix. Whipped cream and sweetener. Lily's chocolate chips or chocolate bars. Quest peanut butter cups or brownie bites. Nick's/Rebel/Enlightened/Halo Top all have keto ice creams. I think Nick's might be the best. Enlightened has frozen cookies you can bake now. Depending on where you live there might be a keto bakery near. Lots of almond/coconut flour recipes out there if you are inclined.
These might not work for someone trying to stay under 20 net a day, but they are good and not as expensive as high key and magic spoon. Also taste much closer to normal grain cereal than those. 9g net carbs per serving but only 1g of sugar.
Anyone ever do hibachi? Going to try a cauliflower fried rice recipe and maybe a keto yum yum sauce. We'll see.
I’ve been drinking these a lot. 150 cal 3 net carbs 30g protein 2.5g fat. They’re not super filling, but they’re a good holdover and taste pretty good. They also have salted caramel, vanilla, and mocha flavors. I get them from Sam’s, but it looks like they’re pretty generally available too. Fairlife Nutrition Plan Chocolate, 30 g Protein Shake (11.5 fl. oz., 12 pk.) https://www.walmart.com/ip/744479709
I used to drink their core power elite shakes all the time as meal replacements. This are pretty good too but a lot more protein and calories.
I got off a cruise on Saturday and weighed 245. I went pure keto with under 10g of carbs saturday and have stayed with it. My pee smells rancid. I weighed 231.4 this morning. I assume 10 lbs was just desert and ice cream weight.
They are almost all "air". Every time I get them I feel ripped off. It tastes like I'm eating space ice cream.
I got down to 228 before going out of town for Thanksgiving. I weighed 232 this morning and someone in a meeting earlier said I looked like I had gained weight. I'm about to go hardcore keto.
My dad said he’s going to try this because his brother is down about 80 and I was over 100 at one point. Day 2 he had an ice cream cone. I’m going to have to go over the details and reiterate that you can’t really try again tomorrow on this diet. I also don’t think this is a long term diet for really anyone, especially someone who got their first social security check this month. Anyway, I’m probably going to try and jump back in drop some LBs. That or I’m going to start the liver king stack.
Dusting this bad boy off because it was brought up in the Biggest Loser thread. Been strong since back to work on Tues. It’s only the 8 year old and myself on weekend nights and we always do pizza Fridays. Made myself some wings and I’m good, not going to have a slice of that pie today. Wed and Thurs nights were pretty bad with sugar cravings keeping me up from all the shit ass holiday food lately. Just munched on beef jerky and string cheese. This morning my piss was rancid so I checked and the ketones are up to 2.0 so hopefully I get into full ketosis tomorrow or Sunday.
What French onion dip? Is there any food keto-quesos out there? I’ve made some in the past but they always turn out tasting like cheese flavored paste.
Thanks for dusting off a thread from one month ago in the middle of holidays when most people break diets But yea, macs pig skins from Sam's are the shit
Hopping back onto this by Monday. Worked great for me a few years back until I went to my grandmother's for Christmas and everything was fried or a carb.
Anderson Erickson, but I don’t believe it’s down that far. I’ve found Kroger store brand is pretty close. Haven’t really tried others. Most queso dips seem to use flour as a binder, which sucks. Usually for pork rinds and queso I just accept it’s going to blow my budget for the day.
Hi, yes, I’m 1 week back onto something resembling keto and I’ve: 1. Already lost 10lbs (gained 15 last year, 10 from Thanksgiving onward, mostly from eating 50-60 cookies from Dec 15th onward), and 2. Already into the stage where I can’t eat a lot of food even when I try. Just no hunger. Looking to hit 20lbs down by mid-March trip and a total of 40lbs down by year-end.
I’ve never had to make keto aid before but this might be a first. Been having random muscle spasms but I’ve been chugging the shit out of water. I think I woke up to piss 4 times last night. Feeling pretty good overall. Sugar cravings completely gone by now. Just need to get these electrolytes balanced.
Hi team! So I really want to get into keto but no clue where to begin. I am following a few Reddit subs on Keto, but as far as recipes go - like meat, cheese, avocados, veggies? Is that about the gist of it? (That’s sort of sacasm by the way). I downloaded Cronometer to help track food is that a good app? I don’t want to subscribe to an app like MFP. I’m also trying dry January in combo with Keto. Is this too much? I have slept like absolute shit lately as was wondering if both were causing me to not sleep good. Admittedly, I had a pretty rough go in terms of drinking of late and really need to scale that back. Thanks guys, be nice to the long time lurker, first time caller.
Fuck those veggies. Are you a rabbit? Just kidding but not really. In general green = good, bright colors = watch out. Look up some food charts, read labels, track everything. Get some test strips until you can tell the difference between ketosis and “normal”. After a month or two you’ll be a pro. And yes. The no sugar no booze combo is going to beat the Shit out of you. Right now your body is going through withdrawals from both booze and sugar. A lot of people start getting over that hump after a couple weeks. Stay hydrated, exercise, and power through it. You’ll feel like a fog will be lifted from your brain and body here soon. It’s crazy how much better you’ll feel here in a week.
I have found that simplicity is my friend: Breakfast: eggs (scrambled, fried, or omelette) with some wilted spinach, maybe some leftover steak Lunch: protein shake w/ avocado mixed in and some nuts (I count them out to keep myself honest on carbs) Dinner: toasted broccoli or cauliflower and some fish, beef, or chicken It’s boring AF but it’s easy and my wife can piggyback whatever she’s doing off it. Trying to come up with recipes is a way to fail because it takes work. This makes it easy on me and is cleaner than what I did before.
