Great thread. Been doing some research myself and want to try this out for sure. My question is though are you able to do it a few days at a time? I know with the holidays coming up there will be parties and everything that I will enjoy to a degree. I normally track calories during the week so I know approx where I am. In the meantime, If I try to eat less than 20 net carbs per day on some days, then other days have way more, is my body confused as what it’s energy source is and just stores more? Seems there isn’t much of a caloric restriction with Keto, but if you are only able to do it a few days at a time, is it worth doing? Seems like you could get the “worst” of both. Or are you better off to not start until you are able to do it for weeks in a row?
Well it takes a few to several days to get into ketosis and eating too many carbs will knock you out of it, so its probably best to wait.
I'm by no means an expert, but I'd suggest not going a few days here and a few days there. Consistency is key.
Yeah it takes a while for your body to adjust to changing it's source of energy from carbs because that's what it's done for decades. If I were in your position I would just try to keep carbs low and get a feel for just how carb heavy the average diet is and familiarize yourself with monitoring what you eat. Then after the holidays hit it hard and stay strict for a while to really see results/benefits. After your body adapts see how you feel and decide if you want to keep with it.
If youre having trouble getting passed to first week or so, just forget about weight loss and eat an amount of fat you would be at maintenance then cut down after you get fat adapted.
Good job! Today was my 1 month. 20lbs down. Would be more if I could have cut down on the stuffing at thanksgiving.
Started Monday. Since Wednesday morning I haven’t had any cravings or fluish symptoms. This shit is easy
Highly recommend starting at least counting your net carbs regardless if you heed advice here or not. Will be helpful to get into the swing of things and give you a good baseline.
Broccoli slaw. Pretty good. Everytime I try to upload image the file size is too large. Thought I had this pic thing figured out.
The way I've gotten around file size being too large is just text the picture to a random number or someone. I text to my work phone. Then re-save the picture and file size is fine.
Hit the highest weight of my life (261), so decided to get back on the traditional Atkins. Been in ketosis for 10 days, down 12 pounds. Trying to learn more about the ketogenic lifestyle, as it seems to be much more accommodating. This go round for me has been much, much better than the times I've tried it in the past. I think being old and not going out/drinking multiple nights a week helps.
http://www.wickedstuffed.com/recipe/the-best-keto-buffalo-wings/ Just cooked these and they were phenomenal. Super easy too.
Hahahah, wife eye balled it the other morning, paid in full! Measure every day and now pray to the sky that I can shit before departure.
I have zero appetite. I’m not sure if I need to head to the divorce, depression, or keto thread when I get on TMB.
My life has always been completely dominated by food. All I did was eat. 5k+ calories in a day was no problem. Hungry? Eat a family size bag of chips and an ice cream sandwich. Going to get some fast food? Multiple combos and a couple of dollar menu items. Its all i thought about and all I wanted to do. Now I dont get hungry. I dont have cravings. Life is better. Keto is better.
Re-read this post and It missed the point I was trying to make.. I’m going through some mental health and marriage stuff and I think the carb withdrawals are making me more emotional/angry than I think I’ve ever been. Physically, I’m feeling great and can already feel the difference. Didn’t want people to think I was making a joke about the bro’s in the other threads.
I was in the mid 190's for the last two years. Worked my way into the high 180's by starving myself this year but could never get below 185 even with going to crossfit 4-5 days a week. Started this keto thing strictly taking in less than 20 actual carbs, not net carbs, a day. Today I hit a milestone by weighing in at 179. I went from 184 to 179 in 8 days. I can't actually believe what I read on the scale today but it's there so I'm a firm believer in this diet/lifestyle and am completely sold on eating cheese, meat and vegetables.
Down 13 lbs so far and feel great today. Last week my wife told me I needed to have a pop because I was unbearable. Have been walking on the treadmill an hour each day and might start some weights soon.
Getting old and the holidays suck so much. Haven’t noticed but I fucked around and gained 7 pounds. Time to get serious. Giving up booze and sweets completely. ARSENAL or 941Gator was it one of you two saying you took potassium and magnesium tablets? How much did you take?
