    10 Cloverfield LN was brilliant.

the premise is basically "You're trapped in a bunker with a Ron Paul supporter with a mean streak, and on the outside is War of the Worlds."

We Are Marshall: 7/10 pretty ok, Didn't know Kate Mara & The Falcon were in this flick
Goosebumps: 7/10 was pleasantly surprised, kids fucking loved it
Deadpool: 8.5/10 didn't quite meet my expectations but whatevs. Would've like to see some nudity because I'm a perv
The Goods: 7/10 Big Ups, Google it

Green Room: 8.5/10 super tense, very violent but not gratuitous and Patrick Stewart how you've likely never seen him before

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: 6.5/10 enjoyable but didn't fully catch on for me. Edgar Wright's kinetic style and writing suited the type of story it was telling and elevated it to what it potentially could have turned into. Some really effective cameo type pop ins as well from Evans and others

Macbeth: 7/10 extremely well shot film with Fassbender dominating affairs, interesting take on the titular character with emphasizing the PTSD and some very good supporting work from Harris, Considine and especially Cotillard

Faces - 8.7: John Cassavetes' 1968 film about the disintegrating marriage of a middle-aged couple. It presents the interactions and activities of the husband (John Marley) and wife (Lynn Carlin) after the husband requests a divorce. The intermingling activities and the people that are drawn into this world repeatedly demonstrate a lack of happiness and fulfillment, ultimately highlighting the pointlessness of the institutions in which they find themselves.

    Vanya on 42nd Street - 8.3:
Louis Malle's final film is basically a filmed rehearsal of David Mamet's adaption of Chekov's play Uncle Vanya. Despite being essentially a bottle film, there is great depth in exploring the creative process and the ways in which freedom and exploration brings about better understanding of art.

    A Master Builder - 8.3:
Another play adaption featuring Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory, this time based on Ibsen's The Master Builder and directed by Jonathan Demme. The play centers around an aging Norwegian architect (Shawn), often brutal to friends, family, and colleagues, and a relationship he fosters with a young girl that visits his estate as he lays sick in a home hospital bed.

    The Hurt Locker - 7.4:
Hadn't watched this since it's theatrical run, and I don't feel much different about it upon a second viewing. Solid and well-executed across the board, but ultimately undeserving of the many awards and accolades it received, in my opinion.

As Long as You've Got Your Health - 7.9:
The best of Pierre Étaix films is four separate short films brought under one umbrella. These short films include a man trying to sleep after reading a vampire novel, people trying to find a seat at a movie house, a stressed out psychiatrist, and an adventurous hunting trip in the country featuring various parties of differing backgrounds. Social commentary, sight gags, and physical humor all combine for a delightful experience.

    Primal Fear - 6.8:
Pretty paint by numbers, but it's uplifted by Edward Norton's excellence.

Serpico - 7.6: Still good, but well behind some of the other work that Pacino and Lumet did during the time period.

    Naked - 8.1:
Mike Leigh's enjoyable black comedy about a smart-ass dickhead making his way about London. David Thewlis delivers a fantastic lead performance in a role that generates no major sympathy.

Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator - 7.6:
Dušan Makavejev's story about a switchboard operator (duh) that begins a series of affairs/relationships and the results of her sexual explorations. Although the title kind of gives away what happens with her.

    3:10 to Yuma - 7.9:
Delmer Daves' original 1957 version. Glenn Ford and Van Heflin both deliver great performances, and I find that this version does a much better job of establishing atmosphere and mood than the 2007 Bale/Crowe remake.

    My Beautiful Laundrette - 7.3:
DDL's first leading performance certainly isn't amongst his best, but all the talent and foundation are still readily apparent here, as Stephen Frears examines race relations and homosexuality in the backdrop of Thatcher's London. So if you've ever wanted to watch Daniel Day-Lewis make out with a Pakistani man and run a laundromat, this is the film for you.

    Babette's Feast - 7.5:
This Best Foreign Language Film Oscar winner tells the story of a Parisian refugee (the titular Babette) sent to a devoutly religious village in Denmark (this is all in the 19th century, btw) and becomes the cook for two sisters that are the religious leaders of the village. Eventually, Babette wins a lottery and uses the 10,000 Franc prize to prepare a 12 course French feast for the sisters and other members of the village. Interpersonal relationships and the power of food provide the crux of the film, and a less than thrilling premise is given strong service by Gabriel Axel.

Forget Me Not - 4.3: Zoltan Korda's story about a romance between a British woman and an Italian opera star, played by Beniamino Gigli, the noted Italian tenor. Outside of Gigli's singing, none of this really works.

    Il Sorpasso - 7.9:
The ultimate film of the commedia all'italiana genre, this classic road movie depicts the adventures of a middle-aged bachelor and his uptight law student traveling companion. Vittorio Gassman is superb as Bruno, the middle-aged man trying to run from his past.

    An Autumn Afternoon - 8.2:
The final film of Ozu's outstanding career touches on the familiar refrains of his work: Japanese families and the struggles they encounter along their everyday experiences. Chishu Ryu provides his usual strong performance in an Ozu film.

    Naked Lunch - 7.8:
I can think of at least two things wrong with this title.

    Belle de Jour - 8.5:
Luis Buñuel's outstanding film about a married woman that turns to a life of high class prostitution in order to fulfill her sexual fantasies. Catherine Deneuve delivers a wonderful performance, and Buñuel's flair for the artistic and dramatic add depth and intrigue to the story.

    The French Lieutenant's Woman - 7.4:
Karel Reisz's adaptation of John Fowles' novel of the same name. In this version, two different affairs are explored: a Victorian era romance between Charles and Sarah, and a modern affair between Mike and Sarah, two actors making a film about the aforementioned Charles and Sarah (and Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons play each set of characters). In a stunning turn of events, Streep was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance.

Horrible Bosses - 6.5/10 Better than I remember, good comedy
The Shining - 7/10 Weirdly the first time I have seen it. Thought it was good but not as great as proclaimed. Not sure why either, probably just a horrible opinion on my part.

The Match Factory Girl - 7.4: Aki Kaurismäki's film depicts the mundane and lonely life a young Finnish girl that works in a match factory (duh). Eventually, a series of events occurs that leads her down a path of desperation and tragedy.

    Kuroneko - 8.6:
Kaneto Shindo's adaptation of a Japanese supernatural folktale about a mother and daughter that return as ghosts after being raped and murdered during a civil war. More haunting than strictly terrifying, with beautiful black and white photography.

    Life is Sweet - 8.2:
Mike Leigh's slice of life about a working class North London family. Fascinating characters that are played with great depth, with great performances from pretty much the entire cast.

    Dont Look Back - 9.3:
D.A. Pennebaker's classic documentary about Bob Dylan's 1965 tour in England. One of the finest music documentaries ever made, and you don't have to be a huge Dylan fan to appreciate it (though if you aren't a fan, some of it may bother you). The core of the film is really about how fame impacts the life of an artist and reduces and simplifies their work.

    Sanjuro - 8.5:
Kurosawa's sequel to Yojimbo isn't as strong as its predecessor, but we still get a classic samurai story and a great Mifune performance.

    Inside Llewyn Davis - 9.6:
I'm sure I blurbed this ITT before the crash, but it is simply a modern classic. It remains absurd that neither the film nor Oscar Isaac received Oscar nominations. It really is such a Coen exploration of the period and folk genre, and Llewyn is one of their all time character creations.

Lady Snowblood - 8.9: Film version of the manga story about a young girl that is raised to avenge her mother and her husband and son. Superb stylized violence and beautiful photography are highlights, and the influence on Tarantino and the Kill Bill series are readily apparent.

Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance - 7.6:
As the scores show, this sequel is not to the level of the first Lady Snowblood film, but it still works.

    The Graduate - 9.4:
Shouldn't really need to explain this at all.

    Hearts and Minds - 8.8:
The finest documentary on the Vietnam War that I have ever seen. Essential viewing for anyone with a passion for the era or history.

    Grand Illusion - 8.8:
Renoir's classic story of French aviators attempting to escape their WWI POW camp. Perhaps Jean Gabin's best performance. Delves deeper into the societal changes brought on by the war and the impact of class and social standing amongst soldiers.

The Sword of Doom - 8.3:
Tatsuya Nakadai is excellent as a samurai who is driven to insanity and madness because of his past misdeeds. Mifune chips in with his usual greatness as well, and the sword fighting scenes are very well executed.

Sisters of the Gion - 7.2: Kenji Mizoguchi's story of two geisha sisters and their opposing views and approaches to their work. Ahead of its time with some of its viewpoints of sexuality and the place of women within relationships both romantic and sexual.

    La Notte - 9.2:
The middle film of Antonioni's early-60s trilogy depicts a day in the life of an unfaithful Italian couple and their crumbling relationship and world. Marcello Mastroianni and Jeanne Moreau are both spectacular (duh) as the doomed couple.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - 7.5:
Nagisa Oshima's film about a Japanese POW camp during WWII. The film depicts the relationship between two prisoners (a Brit and a South African) and two of the camp's higher-up Japanese soldiers, and the bonds and similarities that are discovered between them. David Bowie is excellent as the rebellious South African.

    The Player - 8.8:
Classic Robert Altman directorial flourishes bring out the best in this satire of the film industry/murder mystery. Tim Robbins is excellent in the lead role, and a deep supporting cast and countless cameos serve to provide quality performances up and down the cast (which is no surprise in an Altman film).

    Unforgiven - 8.1:
Eastwood is not one of my favorite actors or directors, but the quality here is unmistakable.

And Then There Were None - 7.7:
René Clair's adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic (though they avoid using the title of the first British publication - look it up if you don't know it). The mystery is so great that it is hard to mess up as long as the adaptation doesn't stray too far from the source material, and this version follows this path.

Broadcast News - 8.9: Classic James L. Brooks, classic Albert Brooks, and classic Holly Hunter. If designated as a rom-com, it is the finest the genre has to offer, although the true love interest in the film is journalism and the job rather than a specific person.

    The 40-Year-Old Virgin - 7.7:
Still the best of any of the Apatow films.

    Ornamental Hairpin - 6.9:
Hiroshi Shimizu's tale of a blossoming romance between a young woman and a soldier on leave that happens after her misplaced hairpin causes him an injury. Chishu Ryu is good as the soldier, because of course he is.

    Everything Goes Wrong - 6.8:
Seijun Suzuki would go on to make much better films, but this early work demonstrates some of his skill and promise. This film depicts a series of increasingly disastrous decisions and occurrences (as the title no doubt suggests) in the life of a renegade high school gang member.

    In a Lonely Place - 9.4:
An essential piece of film noir and a masterwork of Nicholas Ray. The Dorothy B. Hughes adaptation tells the story of a temperamental screenwriter (with the completely absurd name of Dix Steele) and his crumbling life, including his involvement in a murder investigation and a tumultuous relationship. Humphrey Bogart delivers one of his finest performances as Steele.

Harakiri - 9.1: Masaki Kobayashi's classic jidaigeki about a ronin that comes to a feudal estate to commit seppuku. Over the course of the inquiry which makes up the backbone of the film, we come to learn more and more about this ronin and his story, and how everything is much deeper than original appearances would suggest.

Saw both Get Out and Manchester-by-the-Sea in the last week. Both absolutely incredible movies that might both be in my top 10 all time.

As I get older, I find myself more and more interested with the more subtle aspects of movies. I immediately found that I wanted to go online afterwards and read more about both of those movies. Is there a resource that provides good movie analysis? I'm not looking for reviews. While they're interesting to read post-hoc, they play it close to the vest to avoid spoilers (understandably). I'm more interested in articles that dive into the subtler aspects (symbolism I may have missed; why things are shot and edited a certain way; etc.)

The more I think about it, I'd love to take an online film course or something - Just watch certain movies that represent a certain style or approach and read articles about them afterwards. Does anyone know of places online where things like that are available?
