The entire religious episode rubbed me the wrong way. While I respect the OC. We would probably not get along with the overly Christian messages he tries to infuse into his coaching philosophy.
Don't have a religious bone in my body, but I did enjoy seeing how much it meant to Dakota Allen and his growth as a person.
I am a devout Atheist after being raised Catholic. If religion can help someone set their life straight, I have no issue with it so long as they don't shove their beliefs down my throat.
The way Buddy treats Isaiah vs how he treats that piece of shit Kam tells me everything I need to know. I hope Kam fails massively
It's so blatant it's downright disgusting. Isaiah makes a genuine mistake on the field during a game and he's an absolute piece of shit. Kam physically assaults a member of the coaching staff? Just go apologize. I love you.
Giving Isaiah shit for trying to play through the injury is just fucking retarded. I laughed so hard when Buddy told him "all you do is whine all the time" Like uh, you're the biggest fucking cry baby pussy on the show. I will admit I don't think he was as bad as season 1 but I absolutely lost any respect I had for him when he benched his OC in the bowl game. What a fucking mental midget. I'm glad the OC stepped down, he deserves so much better.
His entire reaction to the concussion situation with Ollie and Wright should be looked at with a skeptical eye.
Lets not act like Wright didnt fake/lie about symptoms to benefit himself when needed. I gave Isaiah the benefit of the doubt with his interviews until the championship game. Purposely catching that and putting on that show, knowing its killing your future is a retard move. He is a dumbass. Went from liking him to wanting to punch him out.
You don't have to like Wright to hate Buddy. I felt horrible for him when his gf lost the baby, but he handled virtually everything football related the wrong way. Playing through injury is great. Throwing a temper tantrum in the locker room when you're told you can't play is baby shit. Sitting on the bench pouting like a four year old is selfish. I have no idea why Buddy loved up Kam but I definitely get why he hates Wright. Edit: And then he catches the punt at 5 yard line and his response was, "you told me to catch it." Get fucked kid.
Buddy seems generally disinterested with the defensive side of the ball. Id bet that has a lot to do with the way he treats Cam vs Isaiah. Also read an article by the director in which he said Brittany and Buddy never talk. If he was a complete head coach (and a real leader like he aspires to be) then he would have some interest in what Wagner was doing/observing each day. She clearly had a ton of intel on these guys that would've been useful. How do you not make use of that? He'd also take ownership for what's going on defensively, whether it be schematically, in practice or coaches' troubles with players. Anyway, just not a likeable guy, which isn't all that surprising for a successful JUCO coach in Mississippi.
I got to looking for the receiver they showed a few times, #2. Shannon Brooks. Going to West Georgia but looks like he had offers from Southern Miss and WVU. Wtf?
That was my first thought but aren't those schools kind of notorious for getting idiots in? Deandre Brown and Noel Devine come to mind
For as dumb the people are those schools can get in, lots of kids still don't make it. The dumbest of the dumb can find some d2 school that will take them.
Haven't finished yet, but Isiah situation makes ZERO sense. Have never been around a college coach that tried to rush a kid through a sprained ankle or put them in a situation where they can hurt it worse. Also, kids attitude changed midway through season. How in the Hell does Buddy be like he is goofing off and not figure something else is the matter? Even his position coach should've known something was up. As just a person, do not see how you can't just talk to him. (Glad Ollie was like fuck him and truly showed what a POS Buddy really is). No coach acts that way towards players. Starting RB has ankle sprain lets run him in a full speed inside/team drill where he hurts it worse. Just dumb and makes zero sense.
And again, it makes even less sense considering Kam was goofing off and then actually shoved a coach during practice and Buddy reaction to him was he took him aside and baby him, didn't chew him out at all. Very confusing
Buddy is a hack. Guy was losing it in last episode I saw. Its one thing to get heated, but its another to start yelling in the stands and showing entire team to lose composure. He lost one of his best DL for a qtr and a half bc he was focused on his momma being kicked out. Really enjoyed Netflix trying to put out the Ive changed vibe, all an act. Will be interesting to see how many future D1 transfers they lose from this. Why would you go here? They can say exposure, thats bullshit. There are are a ton of JUCOs to go to. Doubt they do another season, unless Buddy is getting paid for it. Awful lool for team and school.
Watching the Delta game episode now. I love how they always casually refer to Johnson as simply a Florida State transfer.
FSU sort of has a national brand for the sort of guy that plays QB there. Dobt know what you want him to say
I hit FWD way too many times. Hopefully the producers stop that, saw bunch of others complaining online.
I found myself getting angry watching this season because I can't understand why some of them just can't figure this shit out...that doing it "their own way" landed them in that shithole so it makes sense to listen to another strategy for once. Then I snapped back to reality and remembered that pretty much every one of them is scratch and dent and I should just enjoy the comedy.
If Kam had his shit together he wouldn't be there, so while I do get your frustration, Buddy should be well versed in it. It's just a funny dynamic. Buddy's livelihood depending on a bunch of troubled kids that are playing for free while he yells at them like they are professionals.
I agree but look at the mom who wouldn't shut her yapper..they have not had great direction from the adults in their lives. It is understandable they behave like they do
Kind of surprised Chauncey doesn't get shit for being from the suburbs. Kam is so damn unlikable. Not John Franklin unlikable, but by far the most unlikable this season. Lion Man is the best still
They show the team praying every 5 minutes and did so last season, too. They aren't leaving it out. Bible discussion and self reflection with Buddy was too much.
thats my thought, they already did the whole OC rolling bible study into football thing in season 1 virtually every episode. They just upped the ante even more
I'm a bit conflicted. I don't think the Lord's Prayer before/after games and practices is a big deal. If you're not into it, abstain or just bow your head out of respect for your teammates. The thing where they are going into the offensive coordinator's home, someone in a position of power, seems like way out of bounds to me when we're talking about people who work at a public college... even though he seems like a decent man.
The Lord's Prayer thing is them making fun of Buddy and showing what a hypocrite he is. "You God damn stupid mother fuckers. What a shitty practice. Be better tomorrow you pussy ass bitches. Now touch one of your teammates. Our Father..." I wasn't bothered by any of it really. They are documenting what really happens in that part of the country.
I liked that what he took away was that he swore too much. Like if he said dang instead of fuck, he would trick God.
I think some of you guys are missing the point of the religion episode. It was obviously meant to show the contrast between genuine religious faith (the OC and the kid from Texas Tech) and how it can be a positive influence on someone's life. And bullshit lip-service faith (Buddy) and how it doesn't mean anything if you don't practice what you claim to believe in. And again, its a documentary. It doesn't care what your take on religion is, its simply showing you what happens. Complaining about it being part of the show is strange. That level of outward expressions of faith is not something I do or am used to seeing, and as I said before I think it can be counterproductive. But to say you "don't like it" like its part of a scripted TV show misses the point of the series.
I was poking fun at how Buddy believed all the bad press he got from the first season was because he swore a lot, not because he's a piece of shit.
it's strange to say that public employees conducting religious ceremonies at a public college seems out of line? hmm
Anyone can lead a voluntary Bible study. It's not a religious ceremony on school time like you're trying to imply
I think youre missing the points people are trying to make to be quite honest. I think ive seen 3 different points. 1 That amount of religiousity would make some people uncomfortable (including me) 2 The program neednt give it that much attention, they couldve spend more time on other stuff without underemphasizing the role it plays. When people say they dont like it thats the point I believe they are making (at least I am) 3 As a public school employee (probably, you never know how the funding works with football programs) the OC seems to be pushing religion a good bit more than is probably appropriate (even though he seems like a good dude) All seem totally valid points you can make about a documentary series.
he did it in the meeting rooms of the football program as well. Given the amount of turnout the voluntary part of it seems somewhat of a stretch based on what I saw. Not saying i can make a definative statement either way but not sold all of it was voluntary by any stretch of the imagination. If it was voluntary you are totally right obviously. Its not always appropriate I think but anyone can
