If what we tegg says doesn't work it wold still be an ROI to pay a process server to hunt down the chiro and serve him with a letter saying you need the records/bills.
I don't know if it's just in Alabama, but there is a process for closing a medical or chiropractic office that is regulated by their respective boards. I have run into that problem before, and they were able to point me in the direction of who had the records. Once, another practice took it over and another time there was a trustee appointed to maintain them. When I represented a doctor who lost his license, I had to go to a storage unit to retrieve his records. Not ideal.
just spoke to the owner, a lady i've known for like 6-7 years, who i didn't know was involved in the clinic. she was like yeah we have a computer but i'll be honest i don't know if the records are there bc the doctor and the dude who was helping the doc were a mess. awesome.
another reason not to deal with chiros and further support for them not being as legit as other health professionals.
Did anyone go to AAJ in Las Vegas ? My law partner went. Been kinda jealous seeing all the pics on facebook
going through my office and found like 10 checks that don't look like they were ever cashed. pretty embarrasing calling people and being like uhhh can you see if this check from 2018 was ever cashed
So you just had client funds sitting around for 3 years and the clients were just cool with it? Or were these just your attorney fee checks?
Even after taking off Thursday - Sunday of last week for a bachelor party and only billing 4 hours on July 5th, I’m on track to blow well past 200 billable hours this month. August is predicted to be similar if not worse due to closings getting pushed. This is on top of 150-200 hour months since March and a busy end to 2020. I don’t get paid enough to continue doing this and I don’t see becoming a non-equity partner really making things better. What kind of legal app is needed that doesn’t exist or doesn’t exist in a usable fashion? Starting to plot exit strategies a la BamaNug
I have wanted to design a workers comp case management software for Georgia that doesn’t suck and market it to claimant attorneys. Every single one that I’ve used has been absolute trash.
I feel like a lot of attorneys think the software they use sucks. See, e.g., most time keeping applications
I think the problem is these software developers want to be able to handle multiple disciplines in multiple states. So you get a shitty product that is scattershot and not tailored to your practice.
I’ve billed 200+ hours per month since February, peaking at 247 last month. I’m on track for ~225 this month, and it’s not slowing down.
I am still engaged in a war over defendant’s emails. they turned over emails on Tuesday night that included an email from a resident that said I saw our security having sex with a minor in his car and I keep calling him about gunshots and he won’t come make a report. defendant had a reply due on Friday and didn’t even address that email other than saying they produced emails and they had nothing to do with crime. the lawyer did take the time to say the court should not take my allegations of him being disingenuous lightly… The court is the one who called him disingenuous.
No trial or travel. We were gearing up for the first two week hearing phase of a 3-panel, bet-the-company arbitration, and we're also bogged down in endless discovery wars in a multi-defendant RICO class action.
Sounded like he just physically found them. Having a non-rectified trust account balance for 3 years almost gives me a stroke.
I used to bill 270+ on average and my partner bitched that my hours were too low. During the pandemic I’ve been closer to 210-220 range and he’s pissed. Not going yo be my problem anymore soon
I know this has been posted before, but goddamn, I saved it and watch it every time I’m high just dying at the comments
Guy who was hit and run by a drunk guy calls me this morning, my answering service does an intake and we make a meeting for 8:30 tomorrow to do a full intake with me or my associate Meanwhile, another lawyer calls him, he thinks it’s us, and eventually figured out that it isn’t. Tow truck driver have another lawyer his info and he called him. trying to decide how I want to handle that.
The lawyer contacted him directly? I’d tell the lawyer not to contact him and that the next time you’ll report him to the bar.
Yeah so he spoke with us and then another lawyer called him directly and he got the guys info from a tow truck driver
Was pretty excited for my drink driver hit and run case. If this client doesn’t answer our intake call tomorrow I’m going to lose it
I know some lawyers in town that somehow got a tow truck company to put the lawyer's info on the back of the tow truck company's business card
Spent 2+ hrs talking to some dude last week that was hit by a stolen vehicle and the carrier denied coverage. The guy has $75k in UM. He came in to sign up and just couldn't believe that he is limited to the UM. Didn't even sign up I think I dodged a bullet though. He had like every red flag there is.
Is that ok under yalls ethics rules? If not seems like that’s something that could get caught pretty fast
My law partners and I didn't think so. We just didn't feel like turning them in. They are otherwise pretty good dudes.
Love clients who don’t want to use their own insurance hey man you’ve paid for PIP and IM/UIM for 10-20 years and now you’re in a situation to use it and you don’t want to? Then why have to paid for it for 20 years just for fun?
Yeah I wouldn’t do anything if I found out-but it seems like that’s blatant enough to get found out quick
well this guy was already on SSDI for a neck injury and was slated to have neck surgery before this wreck even happened but claims this wreck made his neck injury even worse. I told him he could only get $75k UM. "Well what about all my medical bills?" "Didn't medicare pay them?" "Well that's not the point!" I mean he might have med pay that could help out but then they'll want an offset for that. "What about my pain and suffering?" "You're still stuck at $75K." Leaves without signing contract. He's already had 2 lawyers too. Like I said, every red flag.
just settled a case for $50k limits we send release, and then adjuster sends us a letter today saying that another lawyer retained an interest so we have to work that out. we have a letter from previous lawyer, who is in louisiana, where he advised the client that they were dropping them because they needed to get a lawyer in texas. lol at them sending a letter trying to retain an interest after that
how is there some new shitshow in my practice daily and none in yalls and i feel like 95% of the time it's not our fault
dude just signed with us he was hit by a drunk car salesman who took one a used jaguar home off the lot and then fled the scene, leaving the car on the highway, because he was drunk. client saw him throwing a bunch of beer cars out of the window. that dude is fucked?
and i mean they did do work on the case--i can acknowledge that. but you can't drop someone, tell them to find a new lawyer, and then retain an interest. once you drop someone and say you're not going to do any further action on the case, you are out of luck IMO. i'm sure there is some obscure ethics rule that the bar will find if i call them to ask, so i'm not going to do that.
woohoo he has a child support lien that no one told us about until after the settlement too. that's always fun. i didn't want that $50k anytime soon
guy who used the tow truck also used a runner to sign up the client. the contract he sent was from a me.com email address. awesome
