Used to see him around town. He was good buddies with the Pilon brothers. Went to school with Marc and Jeff. Both played CFL. Jeff spent a year with the NY jets
going to have to skip Run The Jewels at Club Soda if anyone is in town we are going to go to Burgundy Lion Pub
If I'm going out, I'll be at North End. Open to an after party at my place tho. Might have some friends show up.
Went to Reubens just yesterday, no complaints at all. It was a great sandwich, took the Reubens spécial and i was at the Reubens deli, steak, dessert. I guess Schwartz must be better but we stayed at the alt in Griffintown and i really did not feel like driving around the city. My jogging around le vieux-port was fucking hell....it was hot and humid....but it would' ve been great if i was in shape or if the conditions would have been a bit better. I was actually walking around with a jogging outfit! Nice little trip to Mtl though, loved the hotel. Time to finish these streets though, and also the condo constructions are getting overwhlming just like in Quebec city.
Osheaga kids stick out here hilariously. Im about to put on the bracelet and get stereotyped. Hit up Marche Jean Talon, f-ing legit. Produce in-season was incredible. Same with Cheeses. Ate La Banquise for lunch...
Marche Jean Talon is awesome cannot wait to be here next year with friends this time. gonna do way more at night
I went for a week last year. I ate it 3 times. Figure it is the right amount to not go crazy but still get a wide experience
that might be it tbh Im swipping my Foie Gras v card tonight its pretty awesome the amount of ppl here eating Poutine at the festival. If it werent for all the Jays and Drogba excitement, that would be my #1 storyline.
Holy shit i would do this if i was still in Mtl! My gf doesn't drink so it would' ve been perfect. In real Life i am not too bad!
Zoe's seems like the #1, its a pita truck. Grumman too but im going there tomorrow night post-concert
SAQ Express is a life saver. Except they need to sell mixers. What is with the Warner Brothers building downtown about? Molson is no bien, or at least the one they were selling at Osheaga. Quebec has some great craft brews, festival needs more beer like that. Overall - and Im really here for the Sunday lineup - this setup is right up there with Governors ball for me based off today. Amazing venue/park, great set up, friendly staff, beautiful weather. Love the Electric Picnic. And the after parties havent begun.
Hey guys!!! We are planning a trip to Montreal in September for the kickoff of the NFL season. Bewbs, gambling and football. Any reqs for sports bars?
Saw Lupul last night Checked out Mcgill and UQAM. Love this strip of bars on St Denis. Went to Le St Bock for lunch. Did a tour of Centre Bell this morning for like 4 usd. Awesome. Then went to Stade Olympique. PSG is playing Lyon and seems like ton of metropolitan parisians are here. Going to Grumman tonight and determined to meet up with Champ.
Champ saw Win Butler (dj at nomad) at the airport. We talked to him for a second. Ketchup on poutine grosses me out more than ketchup flavored potato chips. Ended up getting Poutine 3 times as predicted. Stuff is ridiculously good when drunk. Cant decide what my go-to meat would be...have to say smoked meat at the moment. All in all Osheaga lived up to the hype. Only gripe would be alcohol options suck. Quebec has some good microbrews and they needed to be displayed. Plus no liquor outside if VIP. Set up was great. Given the right lineup, I will be back. Also want to come for a Habs game. The Francophones won me over. Also, the excitement for the Jays (even from expos fans) was pretty crazy.
Get in to Montreal around 1PM on Thursday. I'm used to taking the train living in Chicago but is that recommended way of transportation to get from the airport? I believe our hotel is above one of the main stop/stations. Then I'll probably walk around, drink and look at things for the next 3 days.
Uber from Airport. Taxis are a rip and metro is not directly from YUL. Otherwise, get a metro card and/or walk around.
the metro might have been my favorite part about Montreal. clean and easy to get around. shining example for other cities IMO
Good to know you can have Uber pick you up from the airport as you can't in Chicago. Our hotel is above Central Station but Uber makes is that much easier.
going through my pics of Osheaga and this about sums up my weekend all said & done: Montreal 1 Fran Tarkenton 0.
yea when you leave baggage claim there will be a stand for taxis or black cars, theyre overpriced. Just set up an Uber. All the drivers are nice. Even with surge pricing you're still getting good value. Plus exchange rate is amazing. The closest metro station to the airport is Cote-Vertu, but you have to take a shuttle over there...by that point its pointless. Your hotel is in the middle of downtown but you probably wont be doing most of your eating/drinking there. The 2 best restaurants I had while there were Liverpool House (Joe Beef owns it...but Joe Beef is closed while youre there) and Grumman 78. Both amazing. Listen to anything Champ suggests.
Depending on where you're staying there is a bus from the airport to downtown. It's $10 CA one way, $18 round trip. Has wifi too.
check out Marche Jean-Talon for sure, go up to the Chalet on Mont-Royal, maybe try to go to Parc Jean-Drapeau (but theres a heavy metal festival going on). start out at the lower end of the Plateau by Square Saint Louis (Sherbrooke Station), walk around Rue Saint Arthur, then head up Saint Laurent towards Mile End. Really all the neighborhoods and houses around the Plateau are cool. Same with Parc La Fontaine. Bixi Bikes are everywhere if you'd rather bike. another cool area is the neighborhood between Station Lionel-Giroulx and Marche Atwater by the Canal. There are a bunch of restaurants and bars along Rue Notre Dame over there.
Just got back from Montreal - very solid weekend. You were correct in that staying downtown made us centrally located but I wouldn't stay there again. I would have loved to stay in the Plateau near Saint Dennis and Duluth as that was the area I liked the best. We walked a ton. According to my wife's fitbit, it was over 20 miles. Thursday got in and listened to some dj who was performing in a park area on our way to Au Pied de Cochin. That was a great meal. Their mushroom tart was one of the best non-meat dishes I've had in awhile. Followed that up with cocktails at Bar of Japan. Friday we walked around Old Montreal. Interesting and I enjoyed it but an obvious tourist trap. River cruise was a bit underwhelming. Had lunch at Schwartz deli and that was better then any other delis that I've been to. Well worth the wait. Had beers at Le Saint Bock. Excellent IPA selection. Did dinner at Dominion Square Tavern. Very cool interior and ambiance but nothing special about the food or cocktails. Finding another bar in that area was a bit of a struggle and seemed to be mostly tourists. After a long walk, ended up sitting on the patio of Benelux. Saturday started with a walk to Chalet Mount Royal. After the hike to get to the park, we decided to take the trail around to the Mile End area vs going to the top. Ate at Fairmont Bagel followed by more walking to Jean Talon Market. That would be a great place to have close by. Most were traditional farmers market stuff but loved that I got to eat some oysters followed by a smoothie followed by a sausage. Saturday night we went Burgundy Lion which I was a big fan of. Nothing was amazing but above average in all facets. I do think we went out for dinner too early (730ish) because all of the bars Little Burgundy were pretty dead. Walking down Rue Notre Dame, there were some pretty cool places but all were mostly empty. Had post dinner drinks at Ludger. After my wife went to bed, I ended up befriending some 21 year olds in town for a bachelor party at the hotel bar which led to a pretty interesting hotel room party. They were very generous with their party favors/supplies.
Headed to a bachelor party in Montreal over labor day weekend. We have a group of 10 guys staying downtown. Need advice on the following plz: Best full contact strip club Local beers to try Restaurant for foodies Bars for early 30 somethings with attractive female patrons How to acquire cannabis Any other must do activities over labor day weekend Anything else I haven't thought of Thx in advance
read the past couple of pages + listen to anything Champ has to say Restaurants for me: Joe Beef and/or Liverpool House....Grumman 78....Pied de Cochon
In Montreal right now. Highlight so far was cab driver getting pulled over by the police when taking me from airport to hotel. Don't know what for because convo was on French. Rest of ride was quite awkward.
Chez Parée, Wanda's So many...Pit Caribou, Castor, Abri de la Tempete, etc....But Ile de Gard, Dieu du Ciel, Saint-Bock, Benelux...there are like 30+ good microbrew bars in Montreal, hard to go wrong Not gonna write up an other post about restaurants, just read the thread. Over 30+ recs. Don't hesitate to ask questions about restaurants you've read about online, though. I'm in the business, so I can likely answer most of your questions Send me a PM shortly before we arrive, and I'll get you whatever you'd like Are you in town for Labour Day or Labor Day (US or Canada)?
