They play today at 2:45 PM EST. They are currently in 2nd place, one point behind the leaders, in League One, but have played 2 less games. Can somebody with more knowledge of the EPL/English leagues give me some more information on their fall from the EPL. I remember they used to be a top team not that long ago. I was introduced to them by an English friend in the early 2000s but I didnt follow the EPL closely back then and when I finally did begin to follow the EPL, Leeds was already in the middle of their debacle. I really hope they can return prominance, along with Newcastle. The EPL is better when teams like that, with passionate fanbases and tradition are in the top. I watched the Football factories episodes on them and they are one the worst firms in England (have the most banned members). Thanks in advance.
iirc, leeds brass took out loans that they couldnt pay back and then had to sell all their good players
they took out huge loans that they thought they could repay from the revenue received from UCL qualification. however, not enough $ was made because they underperformed. then they started selling off all their talent like rio ferdinand.
They also went into administration and had a big point deduction. All of that coupled with the fact they pretty much sold everybody that was in good caused them to be relegated a few times.
