I gave up sodas probably 10 years ago for Lent and have not had a soda (sans alcohol) since. It's cheating since I'll have the occasional mixed drink, but it's crazy how soda last its appeal so quickly
Haven't decided what I am going to give up/change for Lent. My daughter this morning told me she is giving up milk for Lent... told her to try again.
Remember the rules for today: No meat. Two small meals that do not equal a full meal, and then a regular dinner . No snacks. And don't go around being a lookatme faggot telling everyone how hungry you are.
I believe that was the reading on Ash Wednesday... Matthew 6: 16 16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad! For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, those lookatme faggots have received their reward.
I always find it ironic that they read that one on a day that they give out the king of all "look at me" prizes, a day (which isn't actually a holy day of obligation) that probably draws more people than the Solemnity of the BVM, Ascension Thursday, and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception combined.
Sweets I guess. I'm not a big sweets person though. So no biggie. Would love to give up beer. But was reminded that I would end up drinking nothing but liquor on long drinking days. That could become problematic.
I consider myself to be pretty pious, and I admittedly did not know that Ash Wednesday wasn't a holy day of obligation until this moment.
I didn't know until a few years ago. We always went to mass on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday but never on January 1st. I was pretty embarrassed when I found I had it backwards
Fun fact, January 1 is only a holy day of obligation in the US (and a few other countries) because the Patroness of the US is the BVM. Other countries don't have that as a holy day (Ireland, e.g., has St. Patrick's Day instead for their Patron Saint.) A lot of other countries have Corpus Christi or The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ as one instead (and therefore, they don't move those to the nearest Sunday like the US)
I'm not catholic or anything, but my best friend is. Last year he gave up booze for lent and our annual drink our asses off for the Thurs/Fri opening round games of March Madness were pretty lame. I apparently set a reminder on my calendar to not let him do that again on NY Eve and I had forgotten about it until it went off. I'm a good friend
I do like catholics more than any other brand of christian despite some of the nonsense you guys do/believe.
Breakfast - banana Lunch - hummus and pretzel chips Dinner- spaghetti (cant wait) Giving up soda and ice tea
We do it with angel hair, marinara, peas and sour cream in the sauce- it works out pretty well in place of meat
Knight's of Columbus Lenten Fish Fries were the jam when I was a kid. When we didn't go to one, we'd go to Long John Silvers at the foot of the mountain or order a cheese pizza.
hello I don't give up anything for lent but my coworker is giving up elevators. bold move and kinda random
You need to mix some eggs in there, be a real man. 5 eggs a day crew checkin in here. Subway Tuna the next couple of Fridays, Kroger Chipotle Salmon for dinner too. Not giving anything else up, never do.
Giving up complaining about people who aggravate me. I anticipate some stumbling, but hope it makes me think a bit more before I rail on someone and maybe choose a better way to respond.
2nd floor. 3rd if you park under the building where a lot of people do. I guess it wouldn't be as hard if everyone you knew lived in houses and no high rises. she's 23 and surely has some friends that live in apartments > 3-4 floors.
In English, yes. But in a lot of languages, they have seperate words. "Carne/Carnem" translates closer to flesh and definitely doesn't refer to fish. So when most of the world gives up "carne" they don't even make a distinction.
A lot. Also I'm revising my thing to alcohol on weekdays...because I'm having a drink as I type this.
I kind of agree with you here, for the most part, but I've got to admit, I'm actually a little envious of them sometimes because of their ability to blindly believe/have faith in something. Then I see shit like the boycotting of the new beauty and the beast movie, because it has a gay character, and I'm like lol fuck those ignorant cocksuckers
