If klopp wanted Lemar in the summer, I’m sure that’s who we’ll go for. Once klopp targets someone, he doesn’t settle.
Well that would go against your theory. There’s always a price, if he doesn’t find that price then yes, he is settling.
No the theory is that he will wait for a player if he is unavailable. Lemar is available as was Keita and VVD. If Goretzka chooses Liverpool isn’t the place for him, so be it. But hey thanks for playing.
I just hope we have a pre-deal already lined up or else someone is going to try and rake us over the coals.
We not getting Lemar this window or we would be all over that. I’ll be happy with Mahrez because he is not cup tied
Roma isn’t selling their goaltender mid season and I doubt Monaco sell one of their best players. My cynical view is we get no one in January, get them both in July
Which would be very frustrating. Things are looking up.. we haven’t lost in forever and now we sell arguably are best player. Just feels like the momentum we had is all gone. Hope I’m wrong
The timing of deals is obviously annoying and causes some short-term problems. But if the £66m for Keita if Leipzig make the top for is right, that would be £66 for Keita and £75 for VVD totaling £141. Which I guess is why the number for Coutinho settled at £142.
Assuming Liverpool can't get Lemar this month unless we have to pay 75-80% of the Coutinho fee, I think it is best long-term if we wait till summer. Players still want to play for Klopp. But I've no idea what are good buys and price points anymore after the Neymar deal. I've only passively watched Lemar with Monaco in the CL last year. Personally, I'd rather Liverpool buy Pulisic for less. We need Mane, who hasn't been bad, to get right and Lallana to get back to fitness. Ox has put in the last two dead balls that our CBs scored winners. I still think Sturridge has a part to play.
We need a left sided midfielder if we want to play the same formation. That’s why Lemar fits the bill.
What we need is a game changer like Coutinho in the final third. Gini can switch to the left and perform the same role he does when he is on the right of the midfield. Lemar would be great. But he isn't the only guy out there.
Roma isn’t selling their keeper in middle of the season with champions league still alive. So unless you want butland who I’m not sure is a huge upgrade over what we have...
Agree, but I think the moves that have been made are anticipating the loss of Coutinho and Can. Just the timing is the issue. There is no like for like of Coutinho that we can get. Isco is the closest. So we have to change things up. Moving to more and more of a 4-4-2 is that answer. We definitely need someone to go with Keita, another wide player (Lemar), CB pairing for VvD and better first choice GK. Just don't see any options worth the money that clubs are willing to sell right now. Not sure why we agreed in January window with so much on the line, but Klopp won't rush things to get what he wants. As magical as he was, there was an interesting stat that our win % is higher this year without Coutinho.
Arsenal bid £92 for Lemar in the summer. He'd be more this January. No clue what Pulisic would cost. I'd guess more.
Football observatory estimates value of Lemar is €72.5 and Pulisic is €69.4. They had Coutinho at €85.2 for comparison, so it's not entirely an exact science and markets keep going up so I can assume you would have to add to that but it gives you a base.
After Coutinho's sale, Liverpool have the lowest net spend in the Premier League over the last 2 years,at -£34 million The next lowest is Swansea with -£19 million, while the two highest are Man City with £292million & Man Utd with £257million
Think we spend a ton next summer. I for one am not a fan of spending 90 million on Lemar but if that is who Klopp wants... I don't think they'll buy anyone in January which means you could see them spend 150-200 million next summer on 3-4 players.
We seem to say this every year. Have to face it, FSG will ALWAYS balance the books. They do it with the Red Sox. If anything happens this window, I think they throw some cash to Leipzig way to try and get Naby early. I think Klopp agrees in not overspending. I imagine his list is Lemar, Mahrez and Pulisic. He will get who he can afford or find a hidden gem like Salah. I kind of like Verratti, myself.
They didn't sell Coutinho to balance the books though. He forced his way out. I assume if you look at Barca's net spend over the last 2 years it looks pretty good too. I get LFC isn't going to have a 200 million net spend like United or the oil teams, but they spend money.
I think there is a lot more to selling of Coutinho than what has been spoken. I agree they spend money, but at some point you have see that every year between the two windows the net spend is never more than 35M. I have no problem with it, just have never seen them spend a lot of money without getting something back.
