Correct, this years city team is not city teams of the two prior years. They will get better when Laporte comes back.
City is not catching up in the league. Honestly more a question of if you guys break the points record, go invincibles or both? If you had to choose one of them, which one would you prefer? I think you break the record but lose at some point
It'd be hard to not break the points record if they go undefeated. Would have to win 10 and draw 6 to end up on 100. Liverpool have 7 draws in their last 61 games. I think they'll lose at some point, quite possibly on Thursday.
Under the idea that we can’t have everything, I would prefer the league (I’m not singing until the math is done) then points record, then UCL double then invincibles. Invincibles will be sheer luck imo. If we are undefeated, at City in the league will be a bigger game than the UCL final this year, unless that too is City and Pool for a Red double or City’s first UCL.
Just putting some pieces together...50-60 million for Wilson + Shaqiri + Grujic, maybe another 10-20 in sales elsewhere and 20 net spend gives us 100 for the summer which should be enough to do some squad building. Feels like decision will be to buy 3-4 guys that are backups / long term development guys (LB, CF, box to box Gini role, utility defender) or one big gun and 1-2 back up guys (think most pressing is LB). Not sure what I think is more likely but we are at the peak of this teams cycle so I’d guess we go for a big gun and focus on titles in 2020-2021 and reworking the squad in 2021 and 2022 windows with an eye to the squad peaking again in 23-24 as Klopps contract runs down.
Think they can get £60-70 million for those guys if they sell all three. Need a big 4th attacker because of the CAF. Then a CB replacement if Lovren leaves. I'd be fine if Jones just replaced Lallana. They really seem determined to bring through the kids at fullback also. I can't find the article I'm thinking of, but basically the plan was to keep the team together another year then start phasing out older guys.
he’s not very good. He’s great at set piece shooting but doesn’t create anything He’s also been very lucky
Yea, more or less I think the naked eye and data analysis confirm the same thing - he probably just isn’t good enough for this Liverpool team and 25-30 million for a fringe squad guy is a no brainer. Think the same was true with Solanke, no shame in it.
I know its not iron clad, but feels like by 22 you can tell if a player is going to be great. They've at least flashed by that point. Sterling, Ali, Gomez, Trent, Kane, Stones, Henderson...usually you know the guys that are going to be starters on big 6 teams by the time they are 22-23 years old.
He’s a left foot distance shooting specialist that is pretty limited in other areas of the game - where in the XI does he fit in as a starter over the next two years? Where does he fit in as a squad player over the next two years? Shaqiri gets a game a month...
I'm fine with Wilson getting a shot next year, I just don't know how much game time he would get to really improve.
Wilson should be loaned to another PL squad unless some club meets his valuation. At 22 he still has room to grow. If selling Wilson, Shaq, Grujic, etc all lead to buying a true difference maker like Werner then I’m all for it though.
The rumor that VVD is out today dampens my mood a bit. If true, I'd be totally fine just drawing today.
lmao VVD just bullying 2 Wolves attackers 1 on 1 back to back and winning a goal kick without touching the ball
Nothing which is scary. He just started walking off the field. I think its his quad. Just hope he can be back for Champions League
He walked off but since its his hammy or quad thats going to be 3-4 weeks at the very minimum. My 100% guess is he won't be back for the first leg against Atletico.
