For anybody that cares to read an (inconclusive) evaluation Millei’s tenure. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/preliminary-milei-report-card
Chalk it up to being raised in ruby red America and being disenchanted with that and starting to find my way to enlightenment
Raised in a Republican household to libertarian to liberal/leftist is a quintessential millennial journey
Apparently Ben Shapiro is getting roasted in his comments for coming out in solidarity with the healthcare CEO? I’ve seen it hinted at a few times but I can only hope it leads to his death as well.
The typical choose your own adventure libertarian. Hilarious it took until 2020 for him to figure it out
https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...ce=website&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=copy Inflation has fallen from 20% per month to less than 3% per month With policies to reduce inflation, GDP fell initially but has already recovered to pre-Melei levels with moderate growth forecast for this year. Poverty initially increased from 40% to more than 50%, but has fallen back below 40%
A divorce between libertarianism and conservativism over tariffs would be great but racism and child brides might be a bond too strong.
glad they are no longer trying to pretend there is a difference, really just a matter of right wing versus far right
You never get a reason as to why when people say they are active voters, pay attention to politics, but chose to vote for neither Trump or Kamala.
Rabid is there any amount of empirical evidence that would convince you that your whole political theory is a fever dream that immediately crumbles under any real-world stress?
My neighbor with the mail order bride and "Who Is John Galt" bumper sticker must be devastated by this news of his Argentine hero
The sell off in the Argentina peso was prompted by the lack of a political coalition which is causing fear that Argentina’s macroeconomic framework can stay in place. It’s almost the libertarian equivalent of true communism has never been tried.
Yes, libertarianism never seems to work in practice, because it doesn’t take human nature into account.
The conceit of Libertarianism is really highlighted in a country like Argentina. Lets say you concede it really is better that society functions are placed in the hands of a private business class guided by 'the market' rather than a government beholden to the electorate. What is the incentive for all these multinational companies to stick it out in Argentina after they've extracted all the resources? The opposition party won a few minor elections in their strongest region. Barely a whiff of the current status quo of selling off socialized services to privatized business weakening and they're bolting. This always was going to happen. It was just a race to extract as much as they could before austerity measures turned the populace against them in the election booth. Seems like it happened a bit quicker than they planned. Im sure this isnt the end. There will be ebbs and flows. But the Argentines will be the one holding the bag at the end.
I fundamentally don't understand why people think in a capitalist society that removing all guardrails won't lead to some really bad outcomes in the name of profits. I mean it is capitalism's defining characteristic. It makes me think people who consider themselves a libertarian aren't good faith actors. You either can't acknowledge or don't care about the record unfettered capitalism has amassed to date.
There is no defense of any of this and whatever right wing economic upside is supposedly out there thats being prevented from implementation by levers of government……….aint worth the right wing fascist authoritarian costs that come inherently attached to it.
There will always be a libertarian party, as long as there are people out there that want to have sex with children and animals.
