Well, Jon, thankfully there's climate change. Midwest already getting all the insufferable white west coast "professional independent journalist" refugees whenever Oregon starts on fire, have to imagine rising sea levels in the gulf region will return Nebraska to its rightful place atop the throne
OU never had higher than the #6 class during Riley's tenure. The difference between that and what should hopefully be consistent top 5 classes at USC is the difference between making the CFP and being a legit contender for the NC
It's debatable. SC is notorious for high end recruits with very thin classes. So any busts and injuries they suffer with depth. They have the pick of the litter CA kid but also insane prima donnas. A better recruiter can do wonders in SC.
I think there are a lot of people that truly feel we are better off now. Riley was a great OC, and a very good recruiter. Not sure he was such a great head coach. Venables is a great coordinator and very good recruiter. Time will tell if he’s much of a head coach. I get people trying to minimize the loss of your head coach. Rejection sucks! We all deal with it in our own way.
USC was notorious for that under terrible coaches. This is the factor that makes predicting future performance hard for the program - you can't really predict how the team will do in the future when it has a real AD for the first time ever and a real coach for the first time in over a decade. Maybe Riley makes the same mistakes, but that seems less likely to me
lol. Look at what PC did at sc to see what they are capable of doing when they win and have a good recruiter.
This is not repeatable so long as Saban is at Alabama. That being said, I still have nightmares about 55-19. They had some of the best teams of all time during that run.
what’s not repeatable? I’m not trying to say he will have the same success PC did. My point is more that with a good coach who recruits sc will not have the issues they’ve had since PC.
Ah, then I agree 100%. Although there's a thread on this board dedicated to asking the question if Lincoln Riley is, in fact, a bad coach so hopefully they get it right with the next hire and then sky's the limit.
