yeah, thats not what happened with sanders, he just wrote a book. I have no issue at all with trump wrting (well having someone write) the art of the deal, if he did the same whilst in office that still would be okay. Whats wrong is doing your job shitty just so you can profit from it himself.

Lets translate it to a different industry. A doctor playing pro golf on the side of his job is fine, even if his fame as a doc makes him more marketable as a golfer. Whats wrong is if he starts gving patients the drug he profits from and not the ones they need

That’s a terrible analogy. There is a reason you’re being disingenuous.

Bernie didn’t earn a bunch of money on a book because he’s an amazing author. He earned it because of his fame he built as a public servant.

It is a perfect example of how the rich stay rich in our country through unequal opportunity.

My team good. Your team bad.

Politics, college football, entertainment etc, people are always willing to ignore their guy doing something if they like him while condemning the opponent for doing something similar. Just an unfortunate part of life.

You’re clearly missing the issue in this discussion.

I don’t care if you haven’t ever taken issue with using political fame to make millions. The issue is, you should take issue with someone using their political fame to make millions.

Politicians on both sides have been doing this for decades. It’s capitalism. They write a book and people buy it. People don’t have to buy it, but if they do then the person who wrote it should be compensated for it.

Just because politicians have been doing it for decades doesn’t make it right.

The most obvious reason is because it’s ripe for abuse.

Did everyone purchase the book because they were genuinely interested in the topic?

Or did a PAC purchase thousands of copies to give as “gifts” similar to what Sarah Palin did?

I'm not shocked that the Left has no problem with this. I did enjoy Bernie's explanation: "I wrote a best-selling book. If you write a best-selling book, you can be a millionaire, too.”

So....capitalism, huh? You can be rich just like me if you work hard, huh? something something write a book bootstraps?

"In the United States today we have the most unequal wealth and income distribution of any major country on earth -- worse than at any time since the 1920s. This is an economy that must be changed in fundamental ways."

"It would, I think, be hard for anyone to make the case that the United States is a just society or anything close to a just society. In America today, there is massive injustice in terms of income and wealth inequality. Injustice is rampant."

"Let us wage a moral and political war against the gross wealth and income inequality"

"There is no justice when so few have so much and so many have so little."

"There is something profoundly wrong when we have a proliferation of millionaires and billionaires at the same time as millions of Americans work longer hours for lower wages."

"We must create an economy that works for all, not just the top 1%."

he wants to "wage war" against people like...himself?
He wants to fundamentally change the economy that he's taken full advantage of and exploited?
He thinks it is "profoundly wrong" that people like him are allowed to exist in our society while people work hard for low wages?
He thinks him being so rich when there are so many poor people is literally "injustice", yet....continues trying to make money, buying homes, collecting wealth, hoarding his riches???

We need to stop people just! like! me! (arms flailing)

All due respect, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. You think because Bernie employed no one to write his book that makes it "ok" for him to make millions? Or are you saying he paid premium wages to people who helped wrote his book?

Bernie would SHRED this logic if another millionaire tried to use it as an excuse for his wealth.

I'm already regretting typing this but the nuance, and Bernies overall point, you seem to keep neglecting isn't that he is mad about people making too much money, with the one obvious caveat being executive pay. He is demonizing their advocacy on not paying their share back into a society they supremely benefited from so people can have living wages, healthcare, and a better overall standard of life.

Publishing a book advocating for those policies isn't exploiting any system nor is it hypocritical. If you can point me to where Bernie demonizes an entrepreneur or small business owner making $500K+ a year I'd love to see it.
