I think that's a fairly non-descript complaint considering we know the story and where/how it ends. does it matter if they get there really fast or really slow if they make compelling TV? not to me. if this was a new show and we didn't know where the story was going that seems like more of a valid complaint but it's kinda like what some said about HotD season 2 but well, we know the full story already, so just enjoy the journey.
Fuck what some cunty tv snob says about it. Couldn't care less. I'm ready to watch this show. It's going to be awesome.
I liked the first three episodes I really don’t remember the first season outside of the overall plot however I really hope Spoiler the harfoots died painfully in that wizard tornado
I’m 6 episodes deep into a rewatch and I genuinely like it better than the Hobbit, which is just way too goofy for me at times. The world building is great, and while the characters aren’t perfect, they are good enough.
Finished the rewatch and enjoyed it much better than the first time. “Evil” characters are super interesting. Love the backstory and I like how they started season 2 from Sauron’s perspective.
I feel like it's a long reach considering the overlap but did anyone else who's watched Rome managed to spy Posca in the first episode? I knew we'd get Caesar (Ciaran Hinds) but was happy to see Posca.
Looks great. Storylines are already in motion and they didn't drag the hell out of them in the first couple episodes to "get them started again" I would give my heart to Bronwyn but her/theo/elf storyline was a drag of awful dialogue and no movement so their absence is solid. Her leaving acting net positive for the show Good Wizard actually converses now and there's only 2 bearable harfoots left Mance Rayder and his assassin crew feel very Dune-ish and I'm about it
in the second episode, Galadriel said "Celebrimbor, Sauron, and Eregion" in about five seconds and rolled all four of those fucking r's. I'm sure they've been doing it and I've been ignoring it but the second "r" in Celebrimbor was dragged so hard that it took me out of immersion and then the ones on Sauron and Eregion just hit me like a 1-2 punch. who in the fuck let her do that lmao 33:16 or so.
Started Ep3 last night and saw it picked up with the Numenor storyline and turned it off. It was so disappointing last season that I need to be in the right head space to watch it with an open mind. Eps 1 and 2 were solid though.
The way they jump storylines is annoying to me for some reason, not sure what it is but seems like things are harder to follow than other similar shows like GoT.
I spend a lot of time on Wiki watching this show. Not a bad thing but I know nothing about all the lore and different entities and whatnot.
would be nonsensical. the two Blue Wizards went to Rhun to battle Morgoth (and later Sauron's) influence on the Easterlings. they supposedly succeeded initially but then lost their way and Tolkien later wrote he suspects they fell into magical cults. I'll be very surprised if this isn't a Blue Wizard and it'd be spectacularly bad misuse of lore to make it anyone else.
make sure to use Tolkien Gateway and not the fandom wiki or wikia. far better resource. very old wiki, better maintained, better sourced. it will not mention the show or movies, however. it's pure book knowledge. https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Main_Page
and Gandalf isn’t supposed to be there at this time, yet unless it really isn’t Gandalf, he is there They’ve been really trying to make the stranger come off as Gandalf (the Harfoot even called the staff a “Gand” in ep 2) so maybe the stranger is actually Saruman and it’s a fake out ? but I’m pretty sure they’re making these two characters Gandalf and Saruman
but who and where is not as big of a deal as "Sauron turned Saruman thousands of years before Tolkien said and this makes his actions in The Hobbit weird and bizarre". Saruman and the two Blue Wizards are the only ones who ever went to Rhun, if you want to help yourself to a theory. they could certainly plot twist and make the Stranger into Saruman but Hinds' character is almost certainly a Blue Wizard. it's totally in line with where they were (Rhun) and what Tolkien surmised happened to them (weirdo magic cults). they also were basically not written about by Tokien so this gives the showrunners an enormous breadth of creative space to make them into whatever they want without running afoul of making god awful lore decisions. Tolkien fans are tolerating this show, they will burn Amazon to the ground if this is a Sauron-corrupted Saruman that Hinds is playing. I don't even think Tolkien's estate would allow such a thing to be done. this all happens under their auspices.
I watched end of 2 late night over the weekend and forgot, what was the reasoning behind Halbrand having a changed appearance/name?
Galadriel, Gil-galad, Elrond, etc. know he's Sauron. Celebrimbor doesn't. orcs murdered the elves sent with a message to inform Celebrimbor of who he is, Sauron then starts corrupting Celebrimbor and drops the Halbrand act to keep Celebrimbor cooperating and forging rings.
From what I gather about the Tolkien estate is that now that the grand children have taken over they don't really give a shit as long as they are getting paid.
there's also nothing stopping them from having the Stranger be the other Blue Wizard. neither Gandalf, Radagast, or Saruman are supposed to hit ME until well into the TA but both Blue Wizards were later said to have arrived in the SA. like I said, there is virtually no writings on either of them because they kind of got lost in the fog for Tolkien so it gives the writers an immense amount of space to play with so long as when it all winds down everything is where it should be.
I really hope everything we've seen so far on the wizard is a misdirect and he's not Gandalf but that seems unlikely.
I haven’t read any of the books, so it’s nice to be able to just enjoy this and not get caught up in the lore I’ve really enjoyed this season so far. Season 1 started really slowly but got awesome towards the end
Not sure if an actual spoiler or not as there is no confirmation Spoiler Theory I read was that his name is Tom something and he actually appeared in LotR but Jackson cut him from the movie where the hobbits meet him
Hoss Bonaventure Tom is actually in the show this season so it’s not him https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/tom-bombadil-the-rings-of-power-first-look
Blue Wizards were also sent to ME long before Gandalf/Saruman/Radagast, right? So technically it would make sense for Hinds to be one of the blue wizards since they technically would have been there for a long time already
correct. originally all five came together around 1000 TA (right when Sauron came to Mirkwood as the Necromancer). by lore, neither Gandalf nor Saruman should be anywhere near ME no matter what point of this convoluted SA storyline you want to choose, they're partying in Valinor. however, in one of his last writings, Tolkien said the Blue Wizards actually came first in 1600 SA (which is literally like right now in the show as far as when the Rings were forged). that's also why I kind of mentioned that both might be Blue Wizards. these guys all knew each other in Valinor, that's why Hinds' wizard sent out the cultists in season one, he felt his arrival and feared it.
Best episode of the series and it will be hard to top that. Holy shit there was so much going on. Tom Bombadil, harfoot origins, Ents, mud monster, istars purpose, Galadriel and Adar, wraiths, Theo reunion, the rings healing power, and so much more. That was so good.
Started episode 3 last night but didn't finish it cause I fell asleep. This season has been awesome so far. But "Elendil returns to Númenor with the blinded Queen Regent Míriel."-this was boring AF and took way too long. Get on to the good stuff
Going to be interesting to see how long they keep this show going. Apparently viewing numbers are way down this season.
