I got a good chuckle out of that as well. I was not expecting them, of all people, to be so negative about the overall experience. This is something I have thought about a lot this season, as it relates to family/friends being so weary of the experiment. We are 5 years into Netflix doing this and it’s pretty consistently shown that it can work. Sure, plenty of couples haven’t been too matches, and there’s been a few shitty people on. But overall, every season has produced at least 1-2 successful marriages. The idea that friends/family thinking it’s crazy/weird/bad or whatever else, seems to be a fading concept the more seasons we get.
Oh also, we finished episode 12 last night. Some cold and shitty business from Netflix to end that episode with a 25 minute build up of a marriage to end it on a cliff hanger. We usually fast forward through the pre-wedding shit as it’s essentially an elongated “recap”. But when we saw 25+ minutes left last night and it was starting we figured they would see it through…. But nope
That’s a good point. Obviously a much much smaller scale but it will probably be like Dating Apps. The first however many years it was still fairly “weird” to say you met online/app, but now it seems like 80% of couples met that way.
Lol we were talking about if it would be a cliffhanger or not, and sometimes I’ll know how much time is left to know it won’t get too far. Yesterday I purposely didn’t look and said the same thing after they got all the way to the alter, still figured it would be a cliffhanger but also thought this has taken forever maybe she says yes and they just move on next ep.
I like Lauren and think Dave is the worst.. butttt fucking a guy a week before you go on a show to get married would bother me.
I said it the other day, I don’t think it’s wrong to feel a certain way about the circumstance initially. Especially since it’s a mutual friend of friends, just insanely small world scenario. It just requires having an adult conversation to understand the relationship and their dynamics. And then the ability to move past it. All of which Dave completely lacks.
Also seems like most of his issue with it is because his friends are talking about it or whatever and obviously that guy cares way too much about what people think. Can only imagine how insecure he was when he was batting like .117 in the Big Ten.
Yeah, I don't think he cares one bit about her fucking somebody a week or two before leaving. He only cares that the guy is someone his friends know.
It's funny how Molly was a better human being to Lauren in 10 minutes than Dave has been this entire time. In the pods I thought she was immature and flaky. I was wrong.
Also, I wonder if Alex's interactions with Madison were cut out of the show because of his new allegations.
Let's remember that a day before Dave proposed to Lauren, he was in love with another person (Molly). So this moral gotcha moment he's trying to get Lauren in is complete bullshit. Furthermore, Dave seemed completely fine with Molly saying she had never been in a serious relationship before going on this show.
He's been asked several times "When was the last time you had sex" and he doesn't even answer it. I suspect his last sex wasn't too different than hers.
Alex might have a little Matt Gaetz in him. https://stylecaster.com/entertainment/tv-movies/1234790536/alex-love-is-blind-underage/
The way he said it is what makes it the worst. He was so excited (proud?) to tell that story and thought he would come across so cool.
I hate the fucking “fiscally conservative socially liberal” bullshit. Aka I vote Republican but virtue signal and hope people think I’m a good person i hope Sara says no
Did you miss where Sara said she was the same? Re: Ben and Sara, there is little to no chance they work out long term, and I highly doubt she says yes. She's made it abundantly clear that she is progressive and Ben is...not. I'm entirely sure what she's holding on to to make it to the wedding.
I actually feel like the religious divide is the far bigger issue. He is very clearly much more involved with religion (and I think it likely drives his political views) than she ever will be. I just cannot see her getting behind that and I think he couldn't deal with it long term.
Aint nobody getting married but Daniel and Taylor. Dave is a loser, Joey has realized Monica is too young for him, Devin is a child without an identity, and Ben might be hiding in the closet. Pretty sure Sara and Virginia both know that their partners are not the right fit, but I'm sure it's a struggle when you are in the middle of the experiment. Sara is also a huge people pleaser and doesn't want to let anyone down. Lauren gave Dave way too much rope but im glad it's over. I think Monica realizes that Joey is not committed to her.
I have said before that we fast forward through some of the boring sections, so we may have missed alot with Monica and Joeys relationship... But it does seem that things have fizzled a bit and I am not sure exactly why, or what caused it. Seemed they were really good and then wasnt.
The final date said it all to me. He's not changing for her, and he's for damn sure not looking for a new church. I also think his allegations have more substance. If she says no, we’ll likely get more information on that ordeal. If she says yes, that whole ordeal will be reviewed. Ben is absolutely a ‘hate the sin, love the sinner’ type of Christian.
Basically, all of the dudes this season suck except the goofy dude. Dave sucks for all the reasons we've discussed. Devin is a childish homophobe who isn't willing to be honest about his political leanings. Ben is obviously super into his religious bullshit and only gives vague suggestions to supporting any progressive causes. Daniel is just fucking weird but he'll get married to Taylor and I honestly could not be less interested in their storyline. All the girls have come out of this thing looking like roses so far (maybe Madison notwithstanding). Lauren gave Dave way more time than she should have. She was very patient and very understanding with his dumb concerns and entertained him talking in circles more than he should have. Sara is obviously one of those well meaning white girls who claim to be progressive but don't really get it. Nonetheless, she seems like a sweet girl who at least tries to do the right thing. Virginia is obviously a lot smarter than she lets on, which is annoying that she feels like she has to do the sexy baby act. She should not, and probably will not, marry this sneaker head with an NSAID addiction (lolwtf). Molly to me came out like the totally unexpected superstar for going up to Dave and being like "lmao you're an idiot bro." Like I thought she was a weird and awkward shady character at first, but she came through when the chips were down and I ride with Molly now. Her bangs are awful though.
Not sure they've ever had a woman that beautiful. Hot damn she brought it. Her friend with the big boobs lighting up Devin on Instagram. Calling him a fake ass dusty Trumper.
Forgot to say, it cracked me up when the Daniel dude asked to high five after the wedding and she just said “…uhh doesn’t feel right”
Quick thoughts... *Seemed like Ben/Sarah and Monica/Joey knew where they stood and just took it to the altar for a bonus. *Virginia/Devin definitely did not. That dude was shook and she definitely looked like possibly the best looking in show history in that gown, which had to add to the gut punch. *Good for Taylor/Daniel. They aren't very interesting people, but they are genuine for each other. *Reunion looks like it could be fun
Virginia and Sara were both stunning imo. I didn’t mind Lauren or Molly either. Probably the best looking group of girls they’ve had overall.
Going into the finale, my thoughts were… Definite yes: Taylor & Daniel Probable yes: Virginia & Devin 50/50: Monica & Joey No chance: Sara & Ben I know Dave got a ton of air time, but Ben is just painfully obtuse and dumb. His reaction that we can keep dating was fucking wild in the moment and clearly demonstrated he wasn’t even trying to meet Sara in the middle. A real own goal for a real chud. Also, it’s clear there was a lot discussed off camera and it’s a real shame because I wanted to see Sara put Ben in his place. Joey and Monica both knew this was a friend zone ending and Joey is probably relieved because he hates Monica’s sister (I would, too, she’s awful). Happy for Taylor and Daniel. Listening to Mina Kimes and David Dennis recap this morning, I thought they were spot on about Virginia & Devin. David pointed out how Virginia changed her tone and really defended her decision afterwards. They both speculated that her defense probably had a lot to do with Devin’s mom and I’d imagine she was being a total chud. In reality, Devin is a sheltered guy with no original thoughts, doesn’t have a real job, and was completely unwilling to try. This one surprised me less because the talk they had on the bed was very revealing in hindsight.
All in all...thought it was a pretty good season, because they seemed to get semi-normal people and not people already trying to be influencers.
Sara went a long way to talk about her progressive values, then dropped the "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" line which makes me think shes a dumbass too, and not really into equality at any level beyond surface.
I wouldn't read too far into that. That's a thing people who aren't incredibly informed/ultra online (like us) say to try to "moderate" how they appear from a political sense because being seen as extreme in either direction is a bad thing in society. She is saying all the right things in the last episode to make me think when the chips are down, she'll make the right decision.
