Saw Nick open for Shane tonight in DC. I think Nick was truly hilarious on Cumtown but it did not land with the audience tonight. I was laughing my ass off because I kind of know his deal but the room was not friendly. Shane was excellent
Just read the same on reddit, someone posted he did a classic Mark Whalberg stops 9/11 bit and it didn't get many laughs. Gonna be honest that I bet the audience that comes out for Shane isn't exactly the sharpest.
Nick shines riffing on the podcast but I don’t think his standup is that strong outside of a couple really good bits. The show was also at the Capital One Arena and I think doing comedy in an arena is really tough. I’ve seen both Shane and Nate Bargatze there and it’s just not a good venue for comedy.
This is also true. I think Shane’s biggest appeal is that all of his jokes have this air of “Do I actually mean this or am I just saying it because I think it’s funny.” About half of the people there are thinking “He doesn’t actually mean that but it’s a good bit” and the other half are thinking “He definitely means it, thank god someone is finally saying it”
