The US have introduced a new T20 league kicking off in a few months. 6 teams in the inaugural season. Be interesting to see what calibre of international players they can attract and if anyone will actually watch it. https://www.majorleaguecricket.com/
I once had a drunken local try and explain the rules of cricket to me in a bar in Australia. I could only understand about every 5th word and all I know today is that the matches can sometimes last a week. Like MLS soccer, this league will probably represent the best fanbases the US has to offer because it will be very few white folks.
As an avid sports bettor, t20 cricket is hands down the best sport betting experience by a mile. Basically have 40 opportunities to bet the over/under but they pay off every 10 minutes or so.
I know nothing about the rules of cricket but have always wanted to learn. In college a lot of Indian students used to have a full blown match in the middle of campus and it seemed like a blast
Cricket seems pretty cool to me. I’ve bet on several matches over the years. The rules can be hard for me to follow tho. One of these Aussie posters should explain them
Competition started today with the Texas Super Kings getting a win over the LA Knight Riders. It was played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. Didn’t realise you had cricket stadiums over there??
My first client featured a team full of Indian devs and they would break out a foam ball and bat at lunchtime and play sometimes. I tried to play once and swung the bat like a baseball bat and figured out it wasn’t for me. Conversely, a long time friend of mine went to Top Golf with us and watching him swing a golf club like a cricket bat was wild.
So not an aussie, but think of it this way: Baseball, but: You can hit everywhere You dont have to run if you dont think you can make it, if you make it to the other side you get a run If you are out (caught, dont make your run, ball hits the wooden sticks that could be seen as the strike zone), you are just done batting, better luck next game Pitching (called bowling in cricket) is usually done with a bounce and has to be done with a straight arm, but you can do a run up The effect of the above is that its way more about control than just nuts power
The T20 World Cup is on in June this year and is actually being hosted in the West Indies and the USA. There will be games in New York, Texas and Florida. Obviously trying to grow the game in the US and there is actually a USA team in the tournament.
toured Lords this past week as I cant make it to the match this weekend but my god is that a lovely facility. Sport can be as boring as it wants if you have the setup they have there. Loads of history. Never knew how old the sport was, esp compared to Baseball. Got to watch Middlesex practice as well. The aussies take the sport very very seriously. But the wealthy Indian nationals I were with...never had seen such excitement.
Yeah, love that place. Like how cricket grounds can be connected stands instead of 1 big stadium in looks, makes it look quaint
