Finished House of Chains. Maybe my favorite one yet. That ending was just awesome. Spoiler Bridgeburners have ascended. Can't wait to see what that means but Hedge saving Fid's life was amazing. Quick Ben showing up to murk Kamist Reloe was great. When Felisin was finally free of the goddess and found herself in all that armor with a sword she didn't know how to use facing her sister who struck her down, right after her thoughts about Ganoes and how she wished she could go back to her childhood and forget the terrible things that happened to her... Devastating. Love Karsa Orlong but was not a fan of how seemingly easy he took down the hounds of darkness. They were set up to be unbeatable and he beat them without too much difficulty. He's almost too much beast mode. Still a fan though.
Liking? It's spelled Felisin. Yeah she got fucked over hard, but then turned into an uber bitch. So you're reading Deadhouse Gates now? What did you think of Gardens of the Moon?
Yea I was typing that while taking a work "nap", I fucked it all up. Yup I'm on Deadhouse Gates. Like I said earlier it was hard for me in the beginning just because of so much going on but I really really like it now. I loved Gardens of the Moon. Some of the characters so far seem like whiny bitches, but I really really enjoy most of them. Rake, Whiskeyjack, Coltaine, Kalam, etc are all awesome. Spoiler I really want to see what Icarium is capable of. The fact that he scared off that D'iver with just some words Also finding out that Shadowthrone and The Rope are the former Emperor and his main man is fucking awesome
Yeah I'm a couple books ahead of you but I fucking love it. Wish this thread was more active and I'm pestering the fuck out of shit user LT8 trying to get him to read them. Gardens of the Moon was really good, but the next three are head and shoulders ahead of it. He continues to introduce new characters, locations and conflicts but I'm always quickly drawn in. I'll put this in spoilers but its nothing past what you've read Spoiler Yeah Icarium intrigues me. You learn more about him as Deadhouse Gates progresses, but I still want to know more. Anomander Rake is one of my favorites. Just completely awesome. Kalam, Whiskeyjack, Fiddler, Kruppe, Calladan Brood, Cotillion (he will show up more later)... I could go on and on about the awesome characters. He also does a great job at writing about how dark and gruesome and devastating war is. You'll get a big dose of that with the Chain of Dogs in Deadhouse Gates.
Yea it's been pretty gruesome so far. And fucking Coltaine is a bad ass commander. I loved how they introduced him to readers.. Spoiler the scene at the docks where he was one of the Wicans fucking with the Red Blades
Spoiler Sucks man. He was the man. I hope that High Fist and and that doucebag advisor get their just rewards
Ok, I've asked if before in several other thread but is this, Kingkiller, or Dark Tower series the best to jump into? I'm on a Desden Files audiobook kick right now and trying to finish it but I love epic fantasy series.
I'm loving this series so much. The first book is kinda difficult because he throws you in the middle of the world and conflict and expects you to catch up as you read. Kingkiller is amazing but unfinished. Dark Tower is different but great too, first half more so than the last
this is one of the few series I felt kept it up through the entire series and didn't let me down at the end. Still waiting for ASOIAF's end, of course, but at this point the Malazan series is my favorite ever.
Finished book 2, ending kind of confused me somewhat but it was a great read. On to book 3 in that order from the OP now.
Blood Follows is probably my least favorite of the Bauchelain and Korbal Broach books. It starts kinda slow and confusing but it picks up. The other two you'll read before you start Memories of Ice are much better. I've begun to really enjoy these as they are short and very darkly funny. Its good to read them prior to Memories of Ice as Bauchelain and Korbal Broach (and of course their reluctant manservant Emancipor Reese) show up in that novel.
So, I've noticed this is a pretty epic saga so I may hold off and get try "The Black Company" first. It's supposed to be pretty good as well.
I have read them all and I think that by far the best order is to read the 10 main books by Erickson first. Then go back and do novellas and maybe Esselmont's crap books if you feel like it.
I haven't read any Esselmont yet but I have enjoyed mixing in the Bauchelain and Korbal Broach novels, especially since they show up in book 3
I thought the Malazan ending was amazing. One of the best endings ever. By ending I mean last two books in main series. I seriously wish everyone had finished it so we could talk about how good it was. Great that there is a thread on these books. I read them all straight through with no break between. I was talking malazan slang in real life. Can't wait for book 2 of kharkanas trilogy. Think it's early in 2016.
Yeah, that's probably just as good. Esselmont's is just so hard for me to read. Seriously, judging by the sentence structure in your posts here I am fairly certain you are a more talented writer than Esselmont. Which sucks because there is alot of good material in his books as far as the history and context of the world they imagined. Some characters and societies are fleshed out more in his books. He is just nowhere near the writer that Ericksen is. It's hard to even imagine how they worked together on the story.
Finished Blood Follows.. it was interesting to say the least. These books happen before the events of the first two correct?
In the Wurms book... Spoiler who the hell is the dude or god i guess that lives in the shack by the shore? The Blackfish
Have you read it yet? Spoiler I guess he's an Elder god? I have to admit this whole book is confusing the shit out of me. So many players.
Memories of Ice is pretty awesome so far and I'm just barely into it. Spoiler how the fuck does on man manage to curse 3 elder gods? Or was Kallamor more than a king?
I started back on book 6. Couldn't help it. Too soon to read them all again so just reading my favorite storylines and scrolling past the rest.
